I just ssubmitted the idea to ideascale: Have the parameter knobs jump to the last saved value when pressed. I often want to go back to the last saved value after changing it. Now pressing the knob returns it to the default value. Maybe have a choice when pressing: Default, Max, Min, Last Saved? Please vote if you agree: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Parameter-knobs-return-to-last-saved-value-when-pressed/794776-23508

Actually Frank Zappa was known to use 7's and he hardly had thin sound :) -

I'm using a hybrid set 9-46 on my JTV89F. Seems fine to me -
It's ok, I'm not trying to imply the dials are bad quality. I was just a bit worried Mine were off. I understand that the push fuctionality might require some amount of play. that's the reason I asked the question to begin with, to find out if this was normal on these particular dials. Actually I think the model selector on the Variax doesn't move like this ;)
-
Yes, I had the same thought, but wasn't sure because I've also seen dials with push function that didn't move like that. Anyways, I'm glad to hear it's OK :)

The two volume dials are rock solid on my Helix, they just dial. But I can wiggle the Preset and parameter knobs back and forth. They feel like they are a bit loose. Is this normal behaviour or do I need to return my unit?

I got mine at Bax-shop in Holland. It was the last one they had but it seems they have a few coming.

I tried mine without pre amp but it didn't sound good. A bit muffled, no clarity. When I activate the pre amp it's pretty good but I don't want to use the HD pre amp for obvious reasons. I found that turning of the cabs in the DT made it better, I guess because the cab sims in HD aren't very good. Could you detail exactly what you're doing to get great tone out of the DT with Helix? Thanks!

Just got my Helix Yesterday :D It's simply fantastic! I installed the software on my Windows 10 machine and updated the firmware without a glitch. Helix software (librarian) working fine.

What is the recommended impedance for headphones on Helix? With HD it was high impedance (200-600 Ohm?). I'm hoping this is not the case with Helix.

Actual side-by-side, controlled comparison between "The Big 3"
talwilkins replied to PiFromBRC's topic in Helix
I know this kind of comparison doesn't tell the whole story, not even close, BUT Having said that, I must say I liked most of the Helix models way beter than the Fractal ones! Fractal sounded way more synthetic to my ears, at least the distorted samples. What do you guys think? -
Not sure You were seeing patch changes. I think they were changing the amp within a patch.

Good point about the data collection. I hop you don't use anything from Google since they are much worse on that end. They actually sell the data, MS apparently doesn't. That is the way computing is going though, collecting data to make the experience better. We just have to trust they won't use the data for anything else. They're all doing it, some more than others, some more concealed than others. I really don't like it but what can I do?

I all fairness, the problem of not working drivers, software and such on Windows 10 can hardly be Microsoft's fault. The third party developers, Line 6 in this cas, are responsible to the working of their software and they have had access to Windows 10 for a long time. I don't beleive Windows 10 has changed much in the way it works on driver level in the last months. It probably hasn't change much from Windows 8. I have been working on Windows 10 for a while now and up to now all software for Windows 8 has worked fine, including drivers for all kinds of differerent hardware. In defence of Line 6, it can be quite a difficult task to devellop new, bug-free drivers for any system. If there is a real problem, they will fix it. When has any new software been bug-free from the start? It's always smart to test first before making the big step on mission critical computers. And that's the same for MS, Apple, Unix, Linux and any other system that ever existed.

I get you! I actually don't give a lollipop if I sound like ... (fill in the blank). All I'm interested in is sounding great to my ears. Of course I try to sound somewhere in the ballpark of my hero's sometimes but to me that's more like finding the type of tone and feel. if it can sound even better than I'm really a happy camper!
-
Absolutely agree and voted! I really don't care if it sounds like anything else. All it needs to do is sound fantastic!

These seem to be the correct listings of amps, cabs, mics and effects: 45 Amps 30 Cabs 16 Mics 70 Effects

Helix vs HD500 quick sound comparison Part 2a: Variax mags

Please do! -
I reported him on facebook, but can't find out how to report in YouTube.

Actually he is telling the truth. The POD will not sound like a BOSS. Fortunalely not :) I used to own a GT-10 and sold it in order to get a HD500. Never looked back. Look the description of the facebook group : "The POD HD500 will not let your guitar sound like this... To everybody his opinion ;-)

Put the links up here so forum users can find them quickly and report them.

HD 500X with a Lex Bos Superdive in the effectsloop, connected to my DT-25 by Line6-Link. The Lex Bos Superdive (real tubes) is the heart of my drive/distortion sound and it's just incredible I use a Screamer from the POD to drive the Superdrive some more if needed. I only use clean amps with cab sims. I also have a Lex Bos tube Booster in the efffects loop of the DT which is always on to give the sound some extra tube magic before going into the power amp of the DT. The result is very sweet

For comparison, what is the dynamic range from the Guitar In in the POD HD500?
