In DT Edit you can turn the cab sim off. At this time I don't have the midi commands in my presets, I just turned the pre amp, cab sim and mic off in DT-Edit. Still figuring out what the final method will be. I think the Speaker and Cab of the DT is pretty flat respaonse and needs a cab sim to make the amp sounf more authentic. That's what the thing was develloped for, to use different cab sims for different amps. My experience useing no cab sim with DT + POD HD500(X) weren't very positive. That's why I feel the best will probably to use no cab on the DT and then use the better cabs from HELIX. When connecting the DT through Line6 Link all amp controlles are useless on the DT (I turn all knobs to 0). Only the master volume for the power amp works. This means to me that all processing is on HELIX and the DT only delivers tube power amplification. I still need to hear it at high volume though to be sure it really sounds good. I'll keep you posted

I wonder, why do you use the microphone and cab sim from the DT? I would think these are better in the Helix. I'm still searching for the best method and my logic says DT to no pre amp, no cab and no mic. I haven't had the chance to hear it at high volume though. What are your thoughts and experiences?

default to display 10 instant access stomps upon loading preset?

Great Idea, saves a stomp! Please submit to ideascale! -
Just found this one: http://www.thomann.de/gb/thon_effect_case_for_line_6_helix.htm Think I will get one!

I have also disabled the cab sim in the DT-25 because I want to use the better cab sims of Helix. It sounds great at moderate volume. Still have to wait and see how it holds up at high volume but I think it will be fine. I use Line 6 Link, no pre amp, no cab sim. I can switch topology through midi, no problem there.

please give us an acoustic amp model (aer compact60...?)!

Right! thanks for the clear explanation. -

talwilkins replied to rudomat's topic in Helix
Ok, I understand. Thanks! Just one thing. Why do you need guitar body IRs? Doesn't you accoustig guitar sound as an accoustic guitar allready? I would think you need accoustic amp cab IRs. Please explain, I'm genually interested for future setup. -
Have you tried high cut on the cab? I cut it way down to somewhere between 2000 and 4000. Before I did that it sounded like crap to me. I wonder why it goes to 20.000. As far as I know guitar cabs don't have that kind of range

Isn't the Studio Tube Pre in Helix good for that? -

Have the parameter knobs jump to the last saved value when pressed
talwilkins replied to talwilkins's topic in Helix
Yes, that's what I meant but I find the Last Saved value the most important. I wasen't asking for a global choice. I changed the request at ideascape accordingly, Thanks! -
I just ssubmitted the idea to ideascale: Have the parameter knobs jump to the last saved value when pressed. I often want to go back to the last saved value after changing it. Now pressing the knob returns it to the default value. Maybe have a choice when pressing: Default, Max, Min, Last Saved? Please vote if you agree: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Parameter-knobs-return-to-last-saved-value-when-pressed/794776-23508

Actually Frank Zappa was known to use 7's and he hardly had thin sound :) -

I'm using a hybrid set 9-46 on my JTV89F. Seems fine to me -
It's ok, I'm not trying to imply the dials are bad quality. I was just a bit worried Mine were off. I understand that the push fuctionality might require some amount of play. that's the reason I asked the question to begin with, to find out if this was normal on these particular dials. Actually I think the model selector on the Variax doesn't move like this ;)
-
Yes, I had the same thought, but wasn't sure because I've also seen dials with push function that didn't move like that. Anyways, I'm glad to hear it's OK :)
-
The two volume dials are rock solid on my Helix, they just dial. But I can wiggle the Preset and parameter knobs back and forth. They feel like they are a bit loose. Is this normal behaviour or do I need to return my unit?

I got mine at Bax-shop in Holland. It was the last one they had but it seems they have a few coming.
-
I tried mine without pre amp but it didn't sound good. A bit muffled, no clarity. When I activate the pre amp it's pretty good but I don't want to use the HD pre amp for obvious reasons. I found that turning of the cabs in the DT made it better, I guess because the cab sims in HD aren't very good. Could you detail exactly what you're doing to get great tone out of the DT with Helix? Thanks!

Just got my Helix Yesterday :D It's simply fantastic! I installed the software on my Windows 10 machine and updated the firmware without a glitch. Helix software (librarian) working fine.

What is the recommended impedance for headphones on Helix? With HD it was high impedance (200-600 Ohm?). I'm hoping this is not the case with Helix.

If you really want vesatility go for the 89F It has a great tremelo system and I really like the neck as well. Great guitar! -
Actual side-by-side, controlled comparison between "The Big 3"
talwilkins replied to PiFromBRC's topic in Helix
I know this kind of comparison doesn't tell the whole story, not even close, BUT Having said that, I must say I liked most of the Helix models way beter than the Fractal ones! Fractal sounded way more synthetic to my ears, at least the distorted samples. What do you guys think? -
Not sure You were seeing patch changes. I think they were changing the amp within a patch.
