Bangha
After lusting for way too long, salivating over how it would integrate with Helix, and starting to record my new album I couldn't help myself from purchasing a JTV59 tobaccoburst. There were none available in town so I bought her online, should be here around Wednesday. Should I absolutely love her, I'll be looking to add a Bigsby as I remember someone on here already did successfully. Just thought I'd share the joy! Axe should be here on Thursday! brue58ski
Make sure it doesn't have the dreaded clang issue!! If it does, return it until you get one that doesn't. See this thread. http://line6.com/support/topic/22848-variax-plink-clang-document-whittling-down-two-threads/
ginster
Well I got one 2 weeks ago and after playing around with for the 2 weeks I will never let her go!!! Such a beauty and even playing her unplugged she sounds absolutely great. Must get an Acoustic amp first to find out all about the Acoustic models. They will not sound properly through a normal guitar amp. Have fun! I've read that if you get the right IR, that you can get a decent acoustic sound from your regular rig. I haven't gotten that far with my JTV69, but I hope to soon. I go into Helix and an FRFR, which may be an advantage over a guitar cabinet. Good luck with your new JTV59!

Either the cabinet in question can faithfully produce the necessary frequency ranges, or it can't. If you really want convincing acoustic tones, FRFR is the path of least resistance. Charlie_Watt
If you want really good acoustic sounds, you need a full range speaker system like a PA. (or an acoustic / keyboard amp)

IR = Impulse Response This explains it far better than I can: http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/The_Working_Guitarist_All_About_Impulse_Responses
psarkissian
IR, Impulse Response,... Put an impulse signal into a black box circuit, and the response is what you get at the output. It can be observed in time domain, as with an oscilloscope, or frequency domain, as with the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) display of a spectrum analyzer. ginster
Thanks for your help!! Great forum with very fast and competent responding.
silverhead
Sorry - but what does "IR" mean. FrFR is full range full response think. Thanks! Actually, FRFR is full range, flat response. I think full range means it covers the full range of human audio, roughly 20hz to 20MHz. while Flat response means no EQ is built into the speaker design. Please correct me, anyone, if this is not accurate.
psarkissian
I think that's out to 20kHz? Typo? silverhead,... essential right, Flat response,... make no EQ,... that would make sense. Flat across the response range would,... and no EQ, it would also have to be in-phase and maintain that across the entire range. What Tannoy used to call 'phase coherent'. Not something I deal with much. It's become a big thing with FOH board ops guys in recent years.
