cchimi
Is there a simple way to delete snapshots? I downloaded a preset that has one snapshot that works great for my purposes, and several snapshots that I can't use. I'd like to delete the ones I don't need, and then copy the stripped down preset to other presets, since it will be useable for other songs. I just don't see a simple way to delete a snapshot. Any help would be appreciated. Carl
pbatts
Not really. There is no such thing as an "empty" Snapshot. Every Preset has eight Snapshots, each being a duplicate of the first. In each Snapshot you can modify the state and/or parameters of the component blocks. You can't copy a Snapshot into another Preset. You can recreate that Snapshot in another Preset, but, only if that Preset contains all of the same blocks. All Snapshots within a Preset will always have the exact same blocks. You can't have a Snapshot with blocks a, b and c and another Snapshot with blocks c, d and e. You can add any missing blocks that you need for the Snapshot you want to use to a Preset and then alter the state and/or parameters for what you need. specracer986
If one snapshot has been altered, you can copy the snapshot that you like and paste it over the other snapshots in the same preset so they are all alike. Likewise, you can then copy and paste that preset into other slots and rename it something else.
cchimi
Thanks to both of you who replied. I think you're helping me toward a better understanding of snapshots. Carl

themetallikid
the renaming is what I do. I just make sure the 'blank' snapshot is a duplicate of the least incorrect one next to it. Meaning, I keep my rhythm snaps to the left, and lead on the right. I run the 4 preset/4 snap mode. So typically I'll have Verse / Chorus / Blank / Lead, the 'blank' one would just be a duplicate of the "chorus" snapshot incase I would hit it, it minimizes the chance of me hitting my lead snapshot by mistake. Joepeggio
The only "real" way to delete snapshots is to edit the preset on your computer in a text editor and edit sections related to the snapshots. Below is an example of what a "blank" snapshot looks like. I believe you may be able to just delete the sections then load the preset and reboot Helix. I am guessing it will "Rebuild" it to the current version.... or maybe you need to make them look like the below text. I am not at home to test this, and it may cause freezing/errors etc, I cant guarantee anything. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in. You need to save the preset to computer, make a copy of it, and add a .txt at the end of filename. Then edit in Wordpad, not sure about Mac. Resave, then remove the .txt. Reload in Helix and reboot. see if it works. "snapshot7" : { "@ledcolor" : 0, "@name" : "SNAPSHOT 8", "@pedalstate" : 0, "@tempo" : 120.0 }
saks
i took a blank preset, exported it, deleted snapshot7, re-imported it then exported again and snapshot7 was back in the new file. @pedalstate is set to 2 on mine, not sure what that means /\o/\. Im not sure. I just got my sample from someone else's preset. It could be how helix looks at the pedal position? The fact that you deleted it and your helix rebuilt it is a good thing. To me, that seems like a better way to go.

specracer986
I don't see the reason for deleting snapshots. If you only use one snapshot, you can set the Helix to display only presets or only stomp boxes, and you would never know you had more than one snapshot. Joepeggio
The only time it's "needed" is when building a new preset and with multiple snaps. When the snap is blank pressing it keeps the same settings as the last snap. Make a few changes and save. Then the next empty snap selected stays at the current setting and allows some more change like boost etc. Then save again and so on. It only saves the step of having to copy snaps and then editing one of them.
saks
DANGER WILL ROBINSON Be careful editing your presets with a text editor kids. You miss one character and you will freeze your helix hmmm...so the helix doesn't validate a file before loading it? that would seem like a bug to me, well more than a bug but we can leave it at that. I would test but I'll take your word for it ;)
Digital_Igloo
As pbatts mentioned, there's no such thing as an empty snapshot. As soon as you select one that hasn't been previously selected, it copies and pastes the snapshot you came from.

From my experiments, if there's something wrong with the file, the Helix doesn't seem to validate it and reject it, it tries to bravely soldier on, like a puppy, trying to be pleasing and then wets the floor. I was experimenting with converting blocks to mono from stereo. The .hlx files are JSON, and, as a developer for many decades, I've used and edited many JSON files, so the changes only applied to the @stereo lines, toggling from "true" to "false". The Helix seemed happy when loading them, but then later an amp block had all its volumes pushed to 10 and all the cabs sounded like crap. Resetting and rebuilding the presets didn't help; The Helix would start rebuilding at about 243 and then quickly stop rebuilding, and declare itself done. I eventually got fed up, forced an update back to the latest build, then told it to rebuild all presets, and it seems to be happier now. I'd like to see the editor (at least) do a preflight sanity-check, or have that as an available option, or for Line 6 to specify the ranges and types for all the variables in the .hlx files we could write something that validates, or does a lint-check and flags oddities/inconsistencies.
