grandinq
Good luck to you on your adventure ! I have had my full rig since May when I got a JTV-69 to go with an HD500 and DT25. It is only now I am feeling comfortable with the whole package. It's a blast now! Our band has a song where I go from Tele into a Fender Twin (in topology 3 for an extra bright sound) on the verse and chorus (I add a rotary/horn effect at the end of the chorus) to a break where I have a 335 into a Park and then a bridge with a Strat on neck pickup into a Fender Twin. 3 guitars and 2 amps (3 if you count the Twin with Top 3). The thing is it all sounds organic to the song, not gimmicky. So much fun !
Mastersonics
So far not so good The JTV69 is IMPOSSIBLE to STAY IN TUNE… WTF? I will give it a few days to acclimatize if not then is BYE BYE and stick with plan BSoooo FRUSTRATING…!C
silverhead
Try changing the strings. No way to know how long the guitar has been sitting unused. It is set up for 10 guage stings. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware installed in both your JTV and HD500X. You will find detailed firmware update procedures in the Knowledge Base section of this website, under the Support tab above. EDIT: And don't forget - it will take some time. This point was emphasized for you in your earlier thread when you were trying to decide whether or not to proceed with the purchase. Don't expect immediate results. Saying BYE BYE in only a few days is premature. You said before that you were prepared for a learning curve; it would be a mistake to let yourself get discouraged so quickly. Mastersonics
Silverhead I bought it from Sweetwater and paid and extra $45 for a tip top setup. [my lollipop]It's sooo frustrating playing a guitar for 3 hours and tune it every 30 seconds or every other chord. The d'addario strings that came with seems pretty new and sparkly but I'll use GHS Boomers 10's and see... thanks, C

Mastersonics
Don't get me wrong The preset Perplexed sounds GREAT thru the L2T is just the guitar that doesn't stay in tuneAfter so many years of performing and been in pretty much every situation and when the guitar do that it's GOODBYE BUT… I'll give it a week then… lol C
silverhead
A week? Might as well return it now for full refund. :P Have you updated the firmware in both devices yet?

grandinq
My JTV-69 was constantly getting out of tune, even after a setup. The solution recommended to was Nut Sauce. That stuff is amazing! It seems pricey but you really don't need much. http://www.bigbends.com

Mastersonics
SilverheadPlease let me know if I'm in the right path... 1. Update firmware on JTV and 500X [What's the right way to do this?] 2. If I'm using the L2T then I must disable the cab simulations on the 500x 3. Tune the guitar 4. Tune the guitar some more 5. Double check if the guitar is out of tune [Most likely YES] 6. Check if there's a miracle and the guitar is still in tune… Most likely NO… :P let me know if I'm missing something other than tuning the guitar… lol thanks,C

silverhead
Glad to hear it! Is it staying in tune now? Hopefully it was just new strings installed during the setup that needed some stretching.
Mastersonics
Glad to hear it! Is it staying in tune now? Hopefully it was just new strings installed during the setup that needed some stretching. Still with tuning problems I stretched the string like 200 times but still won't stay in tune for too long I think I'm getting some killers acoustic sounds and the Dr. Z amp sounds lovely Still need to know how to name the presets and save them so the L2T will change between acoustic and electric C
silverhead
Naming presets is a little tedious - you need to use the little black knobs during the SAVE procedure, between the first and second hit of the SAVE button. Follow the on screen indicators and twist knobs until you see and understand what's happening. You can also save the L2t speaker mode as part of the preset; just make sure you manually set the mode you want before you save the preset. Mastersonics
the L2T preset saving is pretty cool and it's working fine Now it's a matter to fine tune, name the patches and hoping the JTV stay in tune.So far what I've seen is more of an EQ juggling than anything else. basically that's how I see it because every change in cabinet, mic etc… is a preset of an EQ curve.Need to eat something I'm starving….C

silverhead
There is an unavoidable lag while changing presets but it is much more noticeable when the POD is connected to your computer, say, while using the POD editor. The lag is minimized when disconnected from your computer. In most cases the unavoidable lag is just a few milliseconds and there are some things you can do to avoid noticing it: - create your presets to avoid the need to switch frequently in the midst of a song; use different combinations of FX within the same preset and turn them on/off as required during the song rather than using different presets; - when you need to switch during a song, create a short delay in your playing while you switch. In other words, avoid switching presets in the middle of strumming chords. Stop strumming and create a small space of at least a few milliseconds while you switch. Normally this is quite natural; you generally want a new sound/preset (rather than just turning FX on/off) for a completely different guitar part (e.g. a solo part) - one would not naturally switch guitar parts with absolutely no interruption in the sound. Mastersonics
So far the best thing is the HD500X and the L2T which in Electric Guitar mode sounds incredible….!I can't say the same about the JTV69… Very close to send it back and grab me another GTR. grandinq
I can't say the same about the JTV69… Very close to send it back and grab me another GTR. Like the sounds I'm getting with my PRS McCarty so far…! C I have a JTV-69 and a PRS McCarty. Nothing can replace the McCarty. Best guitar I have ever had. In that sense the Dream Rig will never be a complete dream. After tooling around with the 69 since May, I do appreciate the versatility. Having sounds like Tele and Gretsch on command is pretty handy to me. I like that I can keep the McCarty plugged into the Guitar Input and keep the JTV in the Variax input. Mastersonics
Hi I'm thinking of getting the JTV59 in black.Another thing I forgot to mention is that I need a shorter scale guitar like the JTV59I totally missed that on the JTV69 and it's a little difficult on the fingers after awhile. I'm getting really good sounds already on the 500X/L2T and I like it.I would like to keep the whole dream rig but the only thing I don't like is the lag between presets which is too long and kind of mutes the sound.Apart from that this is a killer system for sureCharles
FlyingSquirrel
Get a Tremol-No, install it, and leave it in Hardtail mode whenever you are not using the trem, and always when in the case. It goes a long way to keeping your setup stable. Floating trems are not for the faint of heart anyway, and stretching the strings out well help too.Mark Burghstaller, a regional rep, did a full on dream rig demo here in Tacoma last year with the DT combo's and I was amazed at what could be accomplished with this rig. As a prog guitarist having used a 20 space rack in the past and upwards of 12 guitars, the dream rig can accomplish more than convincingly with just enough gear for a "flyout". Mastersonics
LATEST UPDATE... Don't get me wrong… I like this thing but two VERY IMPORTANT things [TO ME] keeps me from committing 100% to it. 1. The JTV69 is IMPOSSIBLE to keep in tune [i know there are options but come on something so ELEMENTAL, really? 2. The switching delay between presets is really hard to accept and I have tried a few thing to minimize it but unless I'm doing something wrong IT'S the Deal Breaker. On the good side of things: 1. The tonal advantages of the L2T versus going direct is really NOTICEABLE and a big improvement. 2. The Thread-plate sound is SCARY close to my friends Dual Rec and I'm in love with the tone If you guys know a way when switching presets that is faster and without the MUTE hiccup…. I'm ALL EARS thanks again regards,Charles
radatats
I don't get the tuning issue at all. Mine stays pretty rock solid all the time. Nothing like you describe and I play hard and bend hard. Use the Nut sauce. Maybe your additional setup wasn't so hot after all. Mine was right straight from Sweetwater... As for the switching, Keep your amp parameters the same between patches that need quick switching. Match topology, pentode/triode, and class A/AB. Easiest to do that in HD Edit. Then just as in real life, ask yourself honestly if you really need to switch patches within the song or can you manage your FX within the patch. Learn the Exp pedal. You can assign up to 50 separate parameters to each Exp pedal to morph between completely different settings and sounds within your patch, no delay. You can also assign parameters to your JTV controls like using the tone control to adjust the drive and volume on your amp. Don't give up so fast... this does more than you can believe in the beginning...
silverhead
Are you able to measure or estimate the actual delay in switching presets? It's normally in the range of a few milliseconds and easily adapted to by most players. I can't recall hearing before that it would be a deal breaker for anyone. It's normally in the range of a few milliseconds and easily adapted to by most players. I can't recall hearing before that it would be a deal breaker for anyone. Hi It's long enough to make it kind of useless in a live situation. I might be doing something wrong here but when I switch between presets it says "Sync in progress" I did unhook the USB cable to see if there's any difference like you mentioned but it's the same. Could you guys please let me know if I'm doing something wrong or this is just normal I'm liking the sounds I'm getting from this system except the delay between presets and tuning this freaking guitar. thanks, Charles
silverhead
You should only see the message 'sync in progress' when you are connected via USB to the Edit program running on your computer. The fact that you are seeing this message explains the lag time between presets. If you have disconnected the USB and are still seeing this message I would first cycle the power on your Pod HD. If the problem remains after cycling the power I think you will need to reinstall the firmware on your POD HD. Before doing this, use the Edit program to save any custom presets/setlists to your computer so that you can reload them later. Then use Line 6 Monkey to help you reinstall the firmware. During this process choose to replace (not keep) your existing presets.
Tboneous
As far as the lag between presets is concerned.... With your Dream rig you have access to Fender, Marshall, Divided By 13, Park, Hiwatt, Soldano, Boogie, Bogner, Super O, Echo Plexes, Univibe, Reverbs of every sort, the ability to change tunings at the click of a button, the ability to mix match topographies, Sitar, Banjo, Acoustic, Acoustic 12 , Danelectro, Baritone, Rickenbachers....and so on....and so on... But the few milliseconds of delay between patches is a deal breaker? Really? If you send it all back what will you have? One amp, a guitar, a few pedals that you will turn on and off as needed. But hey... at least there's no delay! You could do that with your dream rig for EVERY AMP! I'm just an outsider looking in but... My man, Take a breath and really get with what you have under your feet. Delay schmalay bro, make it happen! You've got an awesome rig there. It would be a shame for you to miss the forrest around you because you are fixated on one tree! The tuning thing on your JTV is something different. That could be a manufacturing issue cause my Axe stays rock solid with new strings! Just a thought...
Mastersonics
SilverheadI had the cable connected… DUHI disconnected the USB and now the delay switching between presets is noticeably shorter and think it will work fineI'm getting to know the unit and mistakes are made… I'm about to finish my song list I will be performing and will start working with presets thenHope I can find a way to make it work since I'm liking what I'm hearing a lot with the 500X/L2T combo… BIG Difference in sound. Now the guitar is a bigger problem I will change strings tomorrow to GHS Boomers .10 - .46 and see if he problem is solvedI'm starting to dig the meaty neck on the JTV69 a lot but keeping tuned is been difficult.A few weeks to feel confident around the 500X but it seems fine so far. thanks again for your help and comments cheers,Charles
tedthebear
After reading through all the comments regarding Charles's different issues i'd have to conclude that if the tuning issue is not resolved it's most certainly a fault on the JTV and i'd be returning it to the store to let someone who knows what they are doing take a look at it. My JTV 69 has been perfect straight out of the box with no issues whatsoever. The only issue i have had has been the learning curve. To expect to get your head round this rig in 5 minutes is completely unrealistic. Firstly, because the possibilities and options are absolutely mind boggling to say the least. I finally traded in my trusty POD XT Live last week against a DT50 and i'm absolutely gobsmacked at the way the whole rig sounds. I also have a Roland GR20 guitar synth fitted to the JTV which fitted easily and works flawlessly. Just being able to mix a lush string patch with acoustic guitar sounds awesome. I also found that i didn't need to use the P.A. or any special speaker system to get a great sound out of the acoustics either. Just simply roll of the bottom end and it sounds crisp. Having owned many valve amps over the years including most Fenders Marshalls Vox's etc and finally ending up with a Mesa Boogie rig consisting of Triaxis/290/395/Mesa Cabs i know what these amps should sound like. Line 6 played a blinder getting Bogner to design the DT series amps and imho they have nailed it this time. The DT 50 sounds like what it is a "REAL" Tube Amp! Only problem, it weighs as much if not even more than any TWIN AC30 VOX or my old Selmer Zodiac Twin30 ha ha...... for those who remember that far back. And regarding the switching issue, even the most expensive boutique amps tend to have some lag and clunk when switching presets depending on the complexity of what is actually being switched. Pure genius!!! Hats off to Line 6! I'm loving my dream rig so much so......... any one wanna buy a used Mesa Boogie rig? Ha Ha
Mastersonics
Hey guys This been non stop every day locked in my studio and I'M LOVING THIS SETUP…!The big secret here is the L2T… I have tried thru my amps, direct to PA and the L2T always comes on topNow for the JTV69, I will order the NUT SAUCE and see if that will solve my tuning problems. To be honest I was expecting the guitar to be OK just enough to go thru my solo show then use my other guitars with my band BUT the more I play it the more I like it and the neck carve is AWESOME… Feels really comfortable and I'm getting used to it…!I'm getting really nice tones that I was afraid it was going to be a bit difficult… Again the big winner here is the L2T It makes everything sounds believable and sits in the mix just right…! Now I need some guidance on how you guys do the "solo boost" with your 500x units Anyone care to help me out? jandrio
...Now I need some guidance on how you guys do the "solo boost" with your 500x units... Charles, try one of foll: a. Insert an FX loop in ur chain (place it at the end of the chain if u want a plain clean boost, or in front of an amp or dist pedal to drive them harder if u want more gain). Use short jumper cable 2 connect the FX loop out to the FX loop in. Set the FX loop return at taste (eg +4dB). Assign the FX loop to a switch as (clean) boost 4 solos. . If stereo is a must, use appropriate jumper. b. Use a Studio eq in ur chain (c abv regarding placing). Set gain at taste (eg +4db). c. Assign EXP-1/2 to amp CH VOL (min = rythm, max=solo).
