  1. Someone else may chime in but I don't think blocks can be globally assigned. What you can do is to copy an entire setlist (or just one preset) in HX edit and then save your changes. I did this yesterday since I use 4cm for live performance but only straight in for rehearsal and it makes it very easy to call up two different scenarios.
  2. Just learned about 4cm yesterday chasing a noise problem, and sort of ran into this- the back of my Blackstar has a switch that sets the loop level on the amp- +4db / - 10 db. I tried the -10db setting first but seemed to lose signal so went to +4db then pretty much left the loop block unchanged. The levels seem to be the same but that was at home at a much lower level than I play live. I was just so happy that the noise went away that I figured anything would work better! I'll have this issue as well, since I don't use my main amp for rehearsals, just a non-chan switching / no fx loop amp. Codamedia, thanks for posting the 3 steps above.
  3. So an update: the gig went very well (a friend in the audience is a huge GnR fan; said my guitar tone was spot on). Thank you for the 4cm idea- the difference in noise is unbelievable. I can now turn the master all the way up on the amp & hear very little hiss. For now I'm only using the one preset with an amp model (no cab) but this opens up a whole new world of possibilities. I apologize to Line6 for saying the output is noisey, it is not if hooked up correctly. A suggestion: maybe the next time they publish a manual this should be stated emphatically... Thanks for all the help; I love my Helix LT & it really sounds good.
  4. My LT wouldn't load on my main PC either, so I had to put it on my tablet (Win 8). Thanks for the tip!
  5. So I'm not through, but I have at least a temporary solution: I used the amps emulated out to dial in a decent tone with headphones, thereby bypassing the internal speaker. My neighbors appreciate it, they just don't know it. Though I learned a lot about reverb from Ben V, I actually used an amp model from a Jason Sadite's patch found here. I incorporated it into my already useful auto bypass wah function so it'll work for Friday's gig. Later when I have more time I'll try using 4cm- I think you can assign a block to be the amp within Helix so it will be switchable per preset.
  6. That's a great idea using 4cm, thanks! I'll try it & report back (if this job thing would just go away I'd have more time) :o)
  7. Until now I've only used the LT as a stomp and it works really well for that. Since my cover band does Sweet Child O' Mine I downloaded Ben Vesco's patch which sounds great on his FRFR setup. The tone on this song is quite clean; some reverb and obviously recorded very loudly but not a lot of grit. He did a ton of research on the original amp used so the tone really is authentic. My initial thought was to use the clean channel of my amp however I can't use his patch as is because it's just too busy with my rig, and I can't just go FOH all the time because none of the other presets have amp/cab modeling. I'm going to try to just use his amp/cab model & reverbs and see what it sounds like with my amp. I'm sure some of you have used a clean amp with amp/cab models so I'm asking for tips on how to make this sound good. It doesn't have to be perfect but it needs to have that balance. Any advice much appreciated.
  8. ^ ^ I actually like the LT big screen better & prefer it to scribble strips. You can make either one work with a little TLC.
  9. Something that's also extremely helpful is Manual Bypass Assign, where the EXP position automatically engages the wah (or any other block) when moved to a certain position. You can always do it the old way (toe switch) but I've been burned more than once with it. I understand not wanting to lose the vol pedal with only one EXP but the advantages outweigh the limitation for me. I use this on quite a few presets, and trust me, I ride the vol pedal all the time.
  10. Global settings > EXP Pedals: "Determines whether expression pedal positions are recalled per snapshot, per preset, or applied globally. If you want a Volume Pedal or Wah to maintain its position when switching presets, set this to "Global." * This is from the LT manual, I don't know but believe it's the same for the floor. You can also copy the wah/vol block & it should transfer bypass actions to other presets.
  11. Yep, the Fletcher-Munson curve. Since the human ear responds to frequencies at different levels always setup any device using the same speakers, amp, and volume as you would on stage. My neighbors hate it when I get a new toy because of this!
  12. Yes, HX Edit. Find your model in the Download page and when you open it you'll see the HX edit download also.
  13. Yes. I found 2 different wahs on the Helix that I really like, the weeper & the Fassel. Instead of latching the switch can be setup to only engage when pressed (like a hold). Two of the most useful tricks about Helix IMO. Sorry I don't remember page #s but both are explained in the manual.
  14. I couldn't remember if it had one or two EXP outs, thanks for clarifying. I sold all my stomp boxes & got an HXFX but a firmware issue (not the unit/my PC) caused me to return it & get an LT, hence my comment above. For $300 more I got all that plus an EXP & more options. Back to the OP the HXFX is a great option, I'd do it in a second.
  15. Have you or will you ever use a vol and/or wah pedal? If you get the HXFX & want to add one you'll have to buy an EXP pedal, & then be limited to only one. As long as you have a fairly recent PC the firmware will load fine and sound wise the Helix stuff is as good or better then anything out there IMO. I even like the Minotaur model better than the Klone I had.
  16. I found that if I'm careful I can peel back the LCD cover & replace, smoothing out air bubbles and it'll stay and keep protecting. I realize the LT is different but the cling film may be similar...
  17. Good idea. Never had success with 4cm but did it incorrectly (GTR - FX - send/return - AMP OUT). I can see now how it'd work better going GTR - AMP - send/return - AMP.
  18. The interesting thing for me is that I actually love the sound of my amp, hence no amp/cab sims. In another post I mentioned that my first purchase was an HXFX but it didn't work out & I'm glad because it doesn't do all the things the LT does, just as the LT doesn't do everything the proper Helix does. I guess I could find a suitable amp model and only use the clean amp channel but I think that's over complicating things a bit. I do use amps/cabs when playing at church, going direct to FOH so I'm using some of that. As mentioned above I have one of Ben Vesco's tones that I've loaded, just haven't had time to incorporate it into my rig. When I do I'll report on how it works. Thanks
  19. Phil, I've done this a few times, but it always takes a bit of trial & error to get everything toggling on/off correctly. Do you have a step by step or a logical order for setting mult bypass blocks to a single footswitch? Sometime I get exactly the opposite of what I want, i.e. the one I want ON when the ring is lit is OFF, the other two are reversed. I tried going backwards (assigning the one I want to turn ON last) but that doesn't work. Thanks
  20. So I got up the nerve to finally use my LT on a paying gig and it worked 100% flawlessly. As mentioned before I have the amp chan switching on certain presets which worked every time, as well as the wah block engaging @ 5% of the EXP pedal also per preset. The various mult on/off blocks worked as expected with no "pedal dance", as did the momentary delays. The band leader texted me yesterday to say my "new board" sounded great. He had complained previously about processing noise coming from the X3L between songs, none of which is present with the Helix. FYI, I'm using it as a stomp with no amp/cab sims going straight into a Blackstar HT40. There is one preset that I'd like to incorporate Ben Vesco's amp patches which will be next time. Thank you for all the help, I'm very glad I got it.

  22. "FWIW, I've gotten rid of nearly every overdrive and/or distortion pedal I own since having the Helix and now HX Effects. I've had all sorts of Klones, the Timmy, and a bunch of other more boutique-y drive. I don't really feel I'm missing anything. The only one I've held onto is the Wampler Dual Fusion, and even with that I'm very close to getting rid of it. The main reason I keep is for on my HX Effects board, and I think there is some utility in having one external drive to make quick adjustments". Me too, including a J Rockett Archer Gold Klone. I miss none of them, in fact the Minotaur OD model is one I use quite a lot on my LT. The only thing I kept is the FF because I made it, but it's so noisy that I'd never try to use it away from the house. Back to the original post; the Tumnus has a pronounced low end punch but you can always overcome that (if even necessary) with EQ.
  23. Exactly what it was! I had missed that; Ben Vesco does a nice YT vid on this very thing.
