My guess would be that you will get the virtual tilt experience with the speaker upright. If you have it on it's side, you'll presumably be using the kickstands and have an actual tilt experience, it'll just be coming from a lower position. If I'm not mistaken the virtual tilt is done with some kind of time delay on certain frequencies so the speaker orientation would be key to this and therefore the speaker would have to be upright in order to utilize it.

L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Just so I don't leave this story hanging, I just got my L3s back from Long and McQuade. It seemed so quick that I didn't want to trust it, but the report said they changed the power supply, so I'm hopeful. It's going to take a few gigs for me to confirm that it's absolutely fixed but I will report back and I suspect this will fix the problem. For one thing, this was what they did to repair the one that actually worked, but speakers went at the same time and there was never an issue before it needed repair. I think it's only fair to finish up this topic just to be fair to Line 6. The speakers blowing in the first place was absolutely my fault, since the consensus was my taking them from extreme cold to a warm environment and then firing them up before they had a chance to acclimatize. This issue only arose after the repair, and to be fair to L & M, they were able to get this particular speaker working without replacing the power supply and the issue was intermittent so there was no way to know that it wasn't really fixed. This wasn't a design flaw, a lemon, quality control or anything like that. It was just bad luck! -

L3s Power Cycling

Thanks Don, I think for now I will take it back to Long and McQuade and tell them what is happening since they did the repair in the first place. The strange thing is that I got this one L3s back much quicker than the second one. For the second one I was told they were waiting for a power supply to arrive from Line 6. So perhaps they were able to repair this one with out putting a whole new power supply in? If so maybe they should just order me a new power supply and put it in the second one. L&M will loan me an L3s while I'm waiting for the repair. That said, would opening a support ticket mean that I have to ship my L3s back to you guys? -
L3s Power Cycling

To give more of a complete answer Don, I should also mention that the two L3 speakers on each side of the venue will be plugged into the same outlet. So left side L3t and L3s onto one outlet and right side into another. -
L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
No it's not just at the same venue, it's happened at two different venues and now at my home. I set up this particular sub to rehearse on Sunday at my home because I want to keep testing it. I just use one sub and one L3t for rehearsals. On Sunday it never cut out. Last night I fired up the same configuration just to noodle around on guitar and the sound cut out twice. I'm a little reluctant to think it's the line 6 link because there are times when it will shut down and stay shut down for a few minutes, also this has only started happening after I got the L3s back from repair for the blown power supply. It worked flawlessly, gigs and rehearsals alike for almost a year up to that point. -
L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
It seems that both times it has happened, the unit powers up initially and then at some point it just starts shutting off, like the power is gone everything goes dark then it powers back on figures out what it should be in the L6 link chain (if it stays on long enough) then powers off again etc. It's not that it is on and can't figure out how to configure itself, it shuts right off and then comes back on. Then I get it home and it works, I specifically used it for a rehearsal at my house yesterday and it worked the whole time. As I said above it has worked at some gigs in between the two that it acted up at. and it's always this sub, the other one always works. -
L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
So since the last time I posted I have done a few more gigs. The last gig I did the same thing happened and it was the same L3s. This time I was ready and unplugged it from the power strip and plugged straight into the wall. That didn't help, I just couldn't get it to work and the downside was that it was working great during sound check, but then started cycling once we started playing, which was a few hours later. Unfortunately, there were a few things working against me. The culprit sub was first in line of the Line 6 link train which means when the sub cut out, everything cut out and secondly, since I use IEMs everything sounded great to me, I had no idea it was happening. Luckily an audience member came and told me what was going on. So there I was trouble shooting, and finally noticed the L3s power cycling. I bypassed it to finish the set and then during first break tried to see if I could plug it in different places to see if I could get it going. I'm thinking now that it's not the power bar or the power source of the venue, simply because it's always just this sub and conversely, the other L3s works without fail and so do both of the L3ts. Of course, you know that when I got it home and fired it up it came on and stayed on. So my chances of reproducing this issue without just having it happen randomly at a gig are slim. I guess I'll just report to my supplier and see what they can do. -
My Living Room Smells Like Weed
litesnsirens replied to bassman24's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I just use regular mic cables for any runs 20 feet and under and DMX cables for anything over 30 feet. Been gigging and rehearsing with the full stage scape system for over a year and never had a problem. The smell does eventually go away. The system truly is scalable and you can just bring what you need for whatever you're doing. -
I'm pretty much the opposite of a conspiracy theorist, so I don't tend to read into things just because I am angry. As far as my phone goes I recently switched to an Android device (Note 3). I just wanted something a little more customizable in the device I carry everywhere and I actually like it. It's something a little different, there are things I miss but the big screen makes up for it. That said, I still have an ipad and mackbook pro and will never leave the apple platform for the things I use those devices for. Why? because they work and they last. People go on about the cost of Apple devices, but do they really cost more? When I was using PC computers I had to get a new one every two years, and during that time I would have to reformat and reinstall the OS a couple of times because it just gets so bogged down, what a PITA. I bought an imac (my first foray into the apple world) in 2007 and my MacBook pro in 2011 both still working as well today as the day I bought them. So in the end did I over spend? I buy one MacBook Pro as opposed to 2 or 3 other crappy notebooks. And in the meantime I have a much better user experience. Ultimately I don't think it's a back door deal with Apple that is going on and I don't think it's got anything to do with Line 6 going out of their way to alienate potential or existing customers. I think it's simply that they want this stuff to work as advertised and they feel confident that it will with a company where the hardware and software is made by the same company. It's really that simple. I don't consider myself an elitist and considering the above points I don't think Apple devices are overpriced. And I don't think Apple is trying to sucker people in or use mind control or any of those things. They just make stuff that works and some people like that and are willing to pay for it. Computer based devices are fickle and prone to problems so Apple makes closed platform devices because that gives them the best chance at rolling out consistent problem free products. You seldom see people going from Apple back to PC. I took the chance with the Note 3 because at the end of the day I tend to change my phone every 2 - 3 years anyway, so what's the risk?

L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Hi all. thanks for the replies. gordwait, I don't think it's an issue with any Line 6 production no one else that I have seen on these boards has mentioned anything similar to what happened to me nor has my retailer seen this. The thing both L3Ss had in common was that they were stored in the garage in very cold weather and then transported to the gig and powered up then the power supplies blew one right after the other. So most likely a condensation issue. Don, yes we use a surge protection power strip, like this one http://www.monsterproducts.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=2142 so maybe you can tell me yes or no if it's better to go straight into the wall or get something else. Most places we play don't have enough outlets. I'm not 100% sure if mine is exactly like the one in the picture but it's almost identical, I just don't recall now if it has those read outs that say "120" and "3.0". -
L3s Power Cycling
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Well, I was hoping it wasn't that .. but I guess it could be. I've heard of guys having power cycling with their M20d's I was wondering if it might be something similar, and how to resolve it. If it's the latter I'm going to make sure it's duly noted at my dealer just to cover off any warranty issues. -
Some of you may have read my previous thread in which I blew the power supplies in both of my L3s's. With everyone's help and the educated guess of the tech at Yorkville, it was determined the most likely cause was going from extreme cold to warm and then being powered up, the condensation blew the power supplies. So fast forward I got one of them back from repair, and it worked fine for 4 gigs. At the last gig we set everything up and then powered up the system and the repaired L3s was power cycling about every 3 seconds it would turn off and then turn on and so on. I tried unplugging it, going into a different outlet, taking it offline from the L6 link setup. Everything I could think of. We went ahead and did the gig with 1 L3s. So last night I powered it up at home to see if it was still doing it. Left it on all night. No problem... no cycling. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this or what I could do to remedy the problem if it happens again? The fact that it's working now indicates that there can't be too much wrong with it. Instead of trying to think of a thousand things to try, it would be good to know the 1 thing to actually do. Thanks

Well for what it's worth I used to run 2 Bose L1 model IIs with B2s before switching over to this system. I had the monitors for a bit but switched to in ears which you can do if everything is running through the system, so that cut down some of the lugging related to the switch. At the end of the day.. I loved the sound of the Bose and no monitors for a large number of the gigs that we played but there were some gigs that the Bose just couldn't cut it. There is a little more lugging but ultimately I can fit the 2XL3t, 2XL3s, M20d, along with my pedal board, compact lighting, 2 guitars and in ear monitor set ups into my Mazda CX-5. And the load in and out is pretty quick and so is setup ... from that point of view not much difference over the Bose. I'm very happy with the decision.. it sounds better, and those venues where the Bose wouldn't cut it, the dream system has plenty to spare ... I have yet to be able to get the master up to 0db... I think the loudest I've been able to turn it up to is -12db. And that was in a huge wedding reception hall.

I use the same adaptors, I used a drill to get those slots a little closer together and was able to mount it using two of the existing screws atop the L3t. I have 2 sets of these lights http://www.yorkville.com/lighting/lp_series/product/lp-led2/ and this controller http://www.yorkville.com/lighting/lp_series/product/lp-c4/. It's a small compact lighting set up that is extremely powerful and flexible, and easily fits on top of the L3ts. In fact I use the Line 6 poles, if I am using the short poles between the L3s and the L3t, I use the long poles to mount the lights on top of the l3t and vice versa. It saves a lot of stage space.
-
Police, and also a fellow Canadian. I typically use the short poles, I have both. Regular poles won't work as the line 6 ones are threaded. I always use the L3s in the upright position, mainly for the smaller footprint. There are times when the extra height of the long pole is required, but in most rooms the short pole works just fine.

M20d. Order Of Songs I A Playlist?
litesnsirens replied to Scenograf's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I've been trying to figure that out since I got my M20d. Still haven't figured it out. -
tonorios' idea is great... but I tend to side more with Ron on this one. I can't think of any scenario in which I wouldn't want my L3s'. The only time I don't use any is if I am going to just bring an L3t to a jam session to use as a guitar/vocal amp. Anytime I am playing anywhere that requires the use of my PA at least one L3s is coming with me. And here is the beauty of it, it never sounds boomy. All I do is plug it in and set all the speakers main volumes at the centre detent position and go. No EQ'ing out the boom, no lowering the level of the sub to compensate for the boom, just plug it in and go. It's that easy. And yes I have used other subs in the past that caused the same issues you are talking about. I will also say they substantially increase your headroom. Going from no L3s to one L3s = a huge improvement in overall sound (unless the only thing you are running through your system is vocals and guitar) and a huge jump in headroom. Going from one L3s to two L3s', maybe a bit of improvement in sound but one sounds great already so the sound quality is less noticeable going from 1 to 2. But you do get another huge increase in headroom and coverage. I simply cannot see a downside to owning an L3s if you have a dreamscape system. Now, having said all that, it is totally possible that you may find yourself in a room that causes issues with the low frequencies, but I imagine it would be easy enough to tame that with the main out eq on the M20d. It's just that I personally have yet to play a room with THIS system in which I needed to tame the bass with these subs. GET ONE!!!!

L3s Mono/stereo Question
litesnsirens replied to johndkeene's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
It has stereo inputs but it's not a stereo speaker, so no matter how you use it the entire sub is going to be active. I think the idea of the stereo inputs/outputs is so that you can come out of a stereo board to the left and right inputs of the sub, the sub will sum and pump out the bottom end of both inputs and then pass the stereo inputs intact to the stereo outputs so that they can be fed to the left and right main speakers. It's more of a connection thing than a mode of operation for the L3s. -
Recorded Levels Vs Playing Levels
litesnsirens replied to litesnsirens's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Don is that just as simple as doing back up presets and then emailing you the file from the SD card. If so I have done this and sent the email. I don't think it would be that there is something physically broken as in the previous thread there were a number of other users experiencing the same thing. I may be missing something in the concept of how you're supposed to be able to use this feature. Based on what you said here If I hit the recording with the trim levels being the same as what gets sent on through the mixer, then everything should be the same, despite any EQ or FX, granted I don't change anything between record and playback. Here is my thought process, I plug my mic in, set the trim, set up a preset for the mic that has some eq and fx then hit record and start singing. While I am singing the signal going to the board is hitting the eq and fx. Then when I play back the recording of my voice should hit the eq and fx the same way. Shouldn't it?? Isn't this the idea? This way I can go out front, with my ipad and not only adjust levels but eq and fx send etc to get the mix right. This is why I find this so strange. Just for clarification, the recording is post trim, right but before anything else?. And the playback is from the exact same spot, so technically whether it's the original signal or the recording of the original signal they should both follow the same signal path. BTW the boomer@line6.com got rejected, so I tried dboomer@line6.com. So far the second one hasn't been rejected, hopefull you get it. Thanks Kevin -
This topic was done before and I even participated in the thread... That was before I started using IEMs and I can now say using the IEMs it's very noticeable and the room has nothing to do with it. I wanted to start this topic anew so that I can be clear of my findings and give the best data possible in order to see if there is some kind of workaround. And hopefully bring it to the attention of line 6 in case there is a fix. First, the problem... We record a performance at rehearsal... Play it back so the we can adjust our IEM mix. The RECORDING, is much louder than when we were actually playing. Now the control questions, electronic drums, modelled guitar amps direct, modelled bass amp direct. The only thing you might hear of any significance in the room is our natural voices. But with the in ears in place, we can't hear each talk unless we are at a mic. So really perfect environment for a controlled test. So the question is, what's going on. At first blush, it would seem that for some reason, the inputs are being recorded at a hotter level than they are coming into the mixer. If that's the issue, the question is how and/or why is that happening. Then maybe we could figure out if there is a work around. In the meantime can we trust that it's a global volume discrepancy and that all the channels are louder relative to each other. If I go out front and mix, set the master using the recorded material, the band is going to be quieter than the recording when we start to play... So I'll have to guess by how much I need to compensate. Yes I know, first world problems. I'm not whining, I truly appreciate this gear and the fact that we never had even close to these options in the past. I only bring the topic back to the forefront because I know how line 6 intended it to work, there's obviously something strange going on here and I figured the more info they have the easier it'll be to pinpoint it. I can seriously get through my gigs and get great mixes in my IEMs and FOH despite this. But having this corrected and accurate would make it much easier.
