  1. When changing gauges, it's a good idea to have the guitar set-up checked and if needed, adjusted. When gauges change, the tension changes, and that affects the set-up. See your local authorized Line 6 service center for that.
  2. The OneSheet Line 6 publishes on the JTV59P states "22 medium-jumbo frets." The OneSheet Line 6 publishes on the JTV89F states "24 jumbo frets." ===================================== Thanks for the heads up on that. I'll bug someone about those one sheets. The fret wire charts I come across have our JTV frets listed in the medium category. Knobs,... yes. Two of the same knob was it? That was me, that was a while ago.
  3. I'm the guy that at Line 6 that works on JTV's. I have all the drawings and specs. All JTV frets are the same, that's the spec. The strings nuts are different, so there would be a different feel. Also the neck radius might contribute to the overall feel of it as well. The spec is that they all have the same frets. Early Variax frets are different from JTV frets. Gibson string nuts,... yes, a bit high for some. Erik Braunn of Iron Butterfly had a vintage 50's Les Paul back when I crewed for them, a rather high string nut. But owning a Gibson myself, I was used to that, so I didn't mind. I agree about the 89, good feel, the neck width and radius reminds me of some of the classical guitars I play.
  4. Very good. Yeah Charlie, not a 500 bridge. Haven't had any of those for sometime. Have to do some fine wiring to the program board to pull that off. Not half bad.
  5. And all JTV's use the same fret wire. The string nuts are different for each though.
  6. Yes he is. He knows I can do it too, but he also knows my bosses won't let me. Only done transplants for a couple of high profile endorsers as favor to them and the top brass here. One guy in Canada, used to be at a service center, transplanted to a Flying V,... he needed to, he's a lefty. I did Carlos Rios' who's also a lefty. Because of the different resonance aspects compared to the woods we use, the tone color in their guitars sounded different, but otherwise worked good. But yeah,... need someone who knows this stuff inside and out.
  7. Page 15 in the Helix manual. POD would be referred to as mic, guitar or VDI inputs in the edit page of the unit.
  8. "You may need to adjust the trussrod if there is too much relief in the neck..."--- Best to have someone well trained at it. Too many turn it too far one way, then too far back,... back and forth, then end up with a warped neck. Truss rod adjustments aren't immediate like action or intonation, you make the adjustment, then you let it sit and settle-in. It's done incrementally. Relief, action, intonation, pick-up height and spring tension on floating bridges,... it's all about balancing out the tensions so that the strings ride and fret correctly for the optimum performance and feel of the instrument.
  9. "Also, the shops that are listed on Line6 authorized Repair facilities- can they be trusted to properly setup my guitar to my liking or will they stick with the default Line6 setups specs"---- I Know what you mean about the action, I have two 59's and the action reminds me of the vintage Les Paul. A smidge higher than say my Ricki 12, which is a low as can be had. That's my point of reference and comparison. When you do the search, there's a sub-heading for those in your area that do our guitars. They will probably do it to spec. But they can always dial it in (within limits, up to a point). Here, I start with spec and dial it in on request of an end user, and still remain within limits. There's some play in that, that can be done within reason. It's a pieces of wood, so it's organic,... so there will be some slight and minute variation from guitar to guitar. Line 6 authorized tech experienced with guitars will know how to deal with that. And he can always consult me, as I am the JTV repair guy here at Line 6.
  10. Got a couple "bpta" types here in the lab, along with the Line 6 ones. Aside from getting old and used up from all the guitars I work on, they both perform well.
  11. Have you checked the input selector in the edit page? The VDI doesn't usually doesn't engage automatically, it has to be selected. It's an easy thing to forget, done that one a number of times myself.
  12. The "btpa" says it will also plug into an FBV controller, it won't with the Canon casing in it.
  13. Could be an intermittent connection. Should be serviced at you nearest Line 6 authorized service center.
  14. 1) Do you have any mics plugged in? 2) If yes to question 1, did you engage the +48V phantom power? 3) If yes to question 2, are your mic condenser mics or dynamic mics?
  15. It's not a matter of divulging info, it's a matter of 3rd party pick-ups. They are going to have their mag field variations, and that has to be taken into account when adjusting pick-up height. It has nothing to do with our specs, we don't control 3rd party pick-up specs. As a result, with 3rd party pick-ups, it's going to be trial and error to get the height right so you don't get warbling. So as a result, modding is not a good idea, as it may have an adverse affect on the sound in modeling mode as well as in mags mode. Warbling in Modeling mode is all to common. ================================= As for brettwade's query,.... "Has anyone both replaced the analogue pickups and routed a separate output for them within an 89F? Would disconnecting the leads from the analogue pickups to the JTV adversely affect the output of the modeling section?"---- Re-routing mags or bypassing the normal connections is not a good idea. I've come across grounding issues while doing customizing to JTV's, as favors for the boss, for high profile clients and endorsers. Not a good idea. But if you must, I want you to be aware of the common pitfalls. Just trying to keep everyone's gear from ending up on my bench.
  16. 30-51-0739 for the Variax Standard. 30-51-0381 for the JTV-69/69S, as in the Stevekc post here.
  17. Log a Support Ticket in your Line 6 account. Don't know what the hang up is, but 2 months is a long time.
  18. Don't do that. FBV is designed to work with Line 6 gear. Check the user manual and Knowledge Base here in the Forum area for more info.
  19. All 69S bridges use the later version bridge, so will have the internal threaded Trem Bar.
  20. Tremolo Bars,... --Early legacy Variax trem bars are externally threaded, but will not fit in the newer Variax Standard. The hole diameters and threading are different, so they are not interchangeable with one another. See the Line 6 online store for those. --JTV69 (first generation bridge), no threading, locked at the top. At this point a non-issue, since there are no more of those left. All gone. --JTV69 (second generation bridge) is internally threaded a the bottom, so between that and the set screw at the top, locks in good for a no wobble operation. These are not interchangeable with other Trem bars Available through Full Compass. See Stvekc's earlier post and photos. --Variax Standard trem bar (and bridge) is modeled after the Fender Strat type, and only fits the Variax Standard. I don't see any on the Line 6 online store or Full Compass at this time. So check in periodically there for availability.
  21. No,... JTV and Variax Standard Trem Bars are totally different. If you didn't get one, then log a ticket with Customer Support in your account. I don't see any in the inline store or Full Compass at this time. CS would probably come to me as a last resort, since I service guitars here and would have a spare part or two.
  22. Brue58ski, the one in the jpeg,... It's an older Variax. It's not the newer Variax Standard,... wrong serial number format, and the head-stock cut is different, and a slightly different color neck. The newer Variax Standard is made at a Yamaha factory, as it's a collaborative product. More than likely the 600 in the jpeg is not a Chinese knock-off, though the one I have here in the lab is not one of the Chinese made ones. From a time before I came here. Standard vs "standard",.... I can see where it would be confusing.
