Do You Have The Same Problem With 6th String?
jandrio replied to chstd's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
since u r a strat guy, go 4 the 69s. the hd500+jtv bundle is unbeatable... -

never mind, keep on ...poding man ! -
by definition, pod CANNOT have a global eq, cause "global" means it equalizes the whole band. if u want 2 eq ur guitar only, get a multi-band stereo eq.

hey, guilhordas, i think u posted 2 the wrong thread... -
global eq is feeding the output of the pa in2 a stereo eq 'n tweaking THE WHOLE MIXED SOUND according 2 the rooms requirements...
-
Correct! That's why I recommend "master equalizing" the pa with an mp3 track which by default is mastered @ the studio prior release... but i repeat, this has nothing 2 do with the q "direct or use tube amp?"
-
i believe it is a matter of "master equalization", meaning that the pa MUST be equalized according 2 the venue sound "signature". if this is not done, overall sound is crap. u can check that by feeding the pa with a simple mp3 track. if it sounds good, then ur pod will also sound good. usually if this is the case and ur patches r well designed, u shld ask the sound guy 2 have both ur 2 channels flat. gunpointmetal is absolutely right: bear in mind that with bad master eq in a bad sounding venue with glass windows 'n other sound reflecting areas it really doesn't matter whether u play direct or with a tube amp; ur sound will b nasty... so I don't thing this is a dilemma 4 pros, go direct 2 pa: playing "wise" means u will not have 2 worry about tubes shorting out or carrying tube amps/cabs in and out of venues... check out this one, JTSC777 nailed it: http://line6.com/support/topic/7292-so-i-finally-jumped-ship-dumped-my-hd500-and-the-last-of-my-line-6-gear/page-4?do=findComment&comment=56923

1.B : each bank can accommodate 1-4 songs, each song "stays" in one bank, some banks may have empty slots.. 2.A 3.D:new setlist 4 each live performance ps I also use a "version control" on my presets stored on the pc hard disk, with mixed numbers and letters. Numbers mean significant changes and letters mean level matching. eg somesong2 is the next version of somesong1, but somesong2a and somesong2b r mainly identical, besides output level (regulated either my mixer, or amp vol, or studio eq gain); this is necessary, cause levels may be different on each live, as they depend on each playlist's songs. I also ensure that each preset uses only one fs (solo boost-gain, harmony, reverb, etc). And this single fs is "synchronized" with the bank position/letter occupied by the preset. eg I have designed 2 Aqualung presets: 2AQUALUNG1a (main riff+solo) and 2AQUALUNG clnP3- (acoustic parts). In one live setlist 2AQUALUNG1a is stored in position C, the fs 4 soloing is FS3. In nother live setlist 2AQUALUNG1a is stored in position A, the fs 4 soloing is FS1. In this way I always know that the appropriate fs is right abv the preset position letter: ie all presets in position A use FS1, all presets in position B use FS2, and so on...

In the attached vid, u can hear the classic sound of Pete Townshend's SG @ Woodstock and Live at Leeds using a James Tyler Variax 69s, connected through VDI 2 a Line 6 HD500, XLR'ed direct 2 PA (2 channels, stereo). In this live performance, the Rickenbacker Bass is passing through POD XT bean with FBV Shortboard 2 miced amp (bass XT patch will be posted later) Patch used 4 the guitar: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/419533/ This ***STEREO*** patch is expected 2 be played with a v2.10 JTV (Lester pos 2 with the tone knob set @ 70% and one whole step down tuning), connected through VDI 2 a v2.31 HD500, direct 2 PA (2 channels). Set input1=variax, input2=same. Trying 2 simulate the Woodstock (and Live at Leeds) famous Who performance, where the song was played in standard tuning in the key of A. The studio version was recorded with the guitars tuned down whole step (DGCFAD), but the chord shapes were played on A major. This proved to be an awesome technique, due 2 great rock resonance of the A major chord. The link below is; sample of Townshend's guitar actual sound from Live at Leeds (standard tuning, key of A): http://www.mediafire.com/listen/dhb38ob5053z6f0/PeteTownsendSGsoundSample-A.wav And here is the same sample transposed 2 G: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/02c2ehccegcawza/PeteTownsendSGsoundSample-G.wav Pete Townshend used (and abused) exclusively on stage Gibson SG Specials (with P-90 "soapbar" pickups) from mid-late 1968 until 1971, and this is the guitar model with which he's most famously associated. This guitar model was used 4 the famous late '60s/early '70s live recordings, including Woodstock and Live at Leeds. Since the SG Special is not implemented in the new JTV HD f/w, the patch is using the Lester pos 2, with the tone knob set @ 70% and one whole step down tuning. For amplification Townsend used Hiwatt DR103 100w amplifier heads (2 heads, each driving one 200w Hiwatt SE4122 4x12 cabinet with 50w Fane speakers). 2 compensate 4 the extra SG brightness, the patch uses the XXL-V-30 cab on path B. The patch also uses the Red Comp 2 fulfill the need 4 added boost and sustain. Here is a quick tab on how 2 play the intro with the tuned down JTV: |G G G G |G/F G/F G/F G/F |G G G G; |G/F G/F G/F G/F | |---------------|--------------------------|---------------|-------------------------| |---------------|--------------------------|---------------|-------------------------| |2--2--2--2--|2-----2------2-----2----|2--2--2--2--|2-----2-----2-----2----| |2--2--2--2--|2-----2------2-----2----|2--2--2--2--|2-----2-----2-----2----| |0--0--0--0--|--------------------------|0--0--0--0--|--------------------------| |--------------|3-----3------3-----3----|---------------|3-----3-----3-----3----| More info/dtls on: http://thewho.net/whotabs Enjoy and ...do not abuse ur JTV!

Variax And Wireless
jandrio replied to BluesPlayer76's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
1stq: vdi signal carries both the variax model AND the mags sound, so if u set input1=variax and input2=variax mags u have both sounds. furthermore, u can force alt tuning 2 the JTV from a HD500 preset, so in this way u can obtain what u described. 2nd q: practically speaking no. however u cld send the 1/4 JTV out 2 the recording console 4 recording a dry signal. here is mags+model patch: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/409204/ -

newbie question - VDI and mag pick ups
jandrio replied to frstrat's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
set the HD500 2 "Studio Direct" mode, send the 2 XLRs 2 the console and u r done! 4 live situations, if ur patches r well designed, the final sound delivered w ur audience will be excellent I dare say even BETTER ! WITHOUT using a tube amp. u may use the amp as stage monitor if u wish, by feeding the pod's 1/4 out 2 the amp's effect loop return. c more vids with patches for using the HD500 direct to PA @ : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3b7kXW444v4OpNy_vQaMFL1K9nPUittG -
