  1. I don't use Sonar anymore, so I cannot give you a 100% walk through, but I can tell you what is needed. Snapshots use Midi CC number 69... not Midi Program changes Set Sonar up to transmit on the MIDI channel of the HX Effects In Sonar, set MIDI CC #69 to transmit on that channel (when you want it to) CC #69 Value 000 is snapshot #1, Value 001 is snapshot #2, Value 002 is snapshot #3, etc... etc... etc...
  2. Another vote for the HX Effects in this instance... the amp models of the Helix would be a complete waste. That said... two things on the Helix you may (or may not) have to add for the HX Effects is an XLR out (direct box) and if wanted... an expression pedal.
  3. I am updating this thread... just in case anyone else encounters this problem, or anything that may be related. Line 6 has verified this problem and confirmed it is a bug that will be fixed in a future update.

    MIDI BUG?

Have you looked into the "instant commands" on the Helix to see if something is triggering from there? Any program change or snapshot change will also trigger any instant commands. Not sure if this one applies or not, but program changes and bank up/down are also transmitted by default on all channels. If you don't want that to occur you must turn it off in the global settings.
  5. +1 When something is out of warranty and/or you are 100% confident in your own abilities it's just a matter of finding out what Line 6 sourced for parts. There should be a part number on the part itself (once you remove it) that can be cross referenced. I did just that on an older Variax when the VDI connector on the guitar failed... in that case it was... "hello Neutrik"! All that aside... I do like the way Roland operates in this regard. They provide a parts list, you order whatever parts you need directly, and they ship all for a low flat rate.
  6. There is a sticky at the top of these forums called "HX Effects Audio Artifacts" that deals with this known issue. If you report it to line 6 through a support ticket they will asses to confirm your unit may be effected, and arrange for a replacement.

    MIDI BUG?

Are you setting up midi on the devices using all the default settings, or are you explicitly setting each midi channel and command? In my experience, most unexpected results occur because by default everything listens to everything else.
  8. Does it ever happen when the unit is not connected to the computer? If not, then I suspect a communication error with the Mac. Try a different USB cable and/or a different USB port on the MAC.
  9. Sounds to me like a filter cap popped in the unit. That would need to be replaced. Don't plug it in until it gets looked at. I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to add that there are two possible scenario's if this is happening. A problem with a Variax connection. I've had this issue, simply unplugging the Variax during boot solves the problem. Those without a Variax will never be effected by this A power supply problems... this can be one of two possible problems The power supply itself is struggling to keep up. You need to test the supply, or try a different one to see if it helps. The filter caps in the unit are failing. If under warranty it should be taken to a Line 6 service depot. If it is out of warranty, any service tech can replace the power supply filter caps. Never under estimate the number of weird problems that can occur when a filter capacitor decides it doesn't want to play nice anymore! A lousy 50 cent part and wreak a lot of havoc!
  10. Can you assign CC commands to the transport controls in the MOOG? Some sequencers can, some can't....
  11. I don't own a Helix, but I do own an HX Effects. On the HX the UP/DOWN buttons can be assigned to "BANK", "SNAPSHOT" or "PATCH".... which do exactly what you are asking. Does the HELIX not do this? Or if it does, is it purely a MIDI option you are looking for?
  12. Check to see if you have a "pete anderson".... it won't be the amp you want, but it's part of the fully loaded so if it's there your other ones should be.

"I think" and "as far as I know" are not allowable answers :) Don't take anything for granted. Double check all of that stuff... then triple check it! If there is a problem at that stage, you will never be able to connect. If everything is definitely installed and the permissions are good... I hate to say it... but that may be why the unit was for sale.
  14. I am always surprised to read the on going horror stories of bad sound techs. In my 35 years of playing I have certainly encountered many grumpy ones, and some that simply didn't have the skills to be in the business... but that is actually quite rare! In my experience the vast majority of sound techs are more than competent and easy to work with. I am not suggesting the bad experiences are not real... I'm just saying I am fortunate enough to get to work with quality level techs almost all of the time - and it is something I try not to take for granted.
  15. Baffled by this response.... Are you talking about pitch shifting (as the thread is about) or just an effect with no pitch shifting at all. If pitch shifting is involved... the Helix does not do polyphonic pitch shifting at this time. Never has, likely will in a future update... end of story, You will never get two notes to pitch shift at the same time. If you are suggesting it can't keep up with your playing (especially something like Wish You Were Here) within a normal patch without pitch shifting, then I completely disagree. Yes it can!
  16. FWIW... I don't change anything between indoor and outdoor gigs... YMMV
  17. FWIW... When I run into the effects return (or power amp in) on one of my amps I use just an amp block.... not cabinet or mic simulation. When I run directly to the FOH and/or into a full range setup on stage... I use the full amp/cab/mic setup. I don't know the amp in question... but usually an effect return on the amp will still go through a few things such as presence, reverb and any type of resonance control you may have. Try adjusting your presence (turn if off) to see if that helps with the fizz at all. If you have a "power amp in" you may want to try that as well because it will likely tap into the power amp at a different point.
  18. Out of curiosity, did you log into a Line 6 account with the HD 500 connected? I don't know exactly how the authorization works, but I would suspect if your account is not authorized for those amps the mere login could have zapped them. As phil_m has said, if the unit was sold including those amp packs, you need to have the original owner gift/transfer them to your account.
  19. I'm not an HD Edit user other than backups and restores... I just do everything from the unit itself. I likely couldn't have helped you with HD Edit, but thanks for letting me know you got it working - that's great to hear!
  20. I just want to add one more thing I have tested with this... The problem exists regardless of the tuner mode. I generally use the tuner in mute mode... but L/R or Send2 mode makes no difference.
  21. You need to change this so all switches are available as stomps. You can still access presets on the bottom row by first touching one of the bank buttons. Once you choose a patch it returns to 8 stomp mode. The nice thing about the HD is that in this mode when you hit a bank button it first displays your existing bank... it doesn't move up or down on the first hit. Each stomp will then have the ability to send different midi messages. Make sure they are on the same channel as the amp, and that you send the correct CC number and value or PC value if that is how the amp works.
  22. Running an HX Effects, I seemed to have hit a snag with v2.6 that I don't recall ever noticing with 2.54. I run multiple instruments and utilize the 2 paths and multiple inputs extensively. Machine is loaded with 2.6 & I have done a full reset for testing. I originally noticed this on existing patches, but I did create a simple test patch from scratch and can re-create the problem every time. Expression pedals, and expression pedal settings do not have any effect on the results. The problem If I use both inputs with separate instruments, PATH B does not return for the right input after using the tuner. A Recipe to try... (I would appreciate people trying this and reporting back... please don't make any assumptions and follow the recipe closely) Start with a blank patch Load a tremolo in the first slot, and a reverb in the 2nd (any effect will do, I use these because they are in your face and obvious) In the signal flow page, drop the Reverb to path B Make sure the input Y is moved to the front of the chain. Leave all settings to default... no need to adjust the Y IMPORTANT: Plugin two different instruments to the L/R inputs... If you only have one instrument you need to use a dummy jack in the other input for proper testing. NOW THE TEST INITIAL RESULT: You will hear both effects from both the L and R input. This is the correct result. Now engage the tuner, then turn the tuner off (do not change patches) RESULT: The left input still sounds correct. The right input will not have any reverb (path b), just the tremolo from path A NOTES Changing patches and returning will correct the problem until you engage the tuner again. If you hard pan the inputs to the paths, the right input becomes completely silent in this test There are many more scenario's I have tested to varying degrees of results... but the one provided here appears to be the simplest and most obvious.
  23. It's been said... the trick here is to set it for a tempo division and set the tap tempo "per-preset" in the global settings. Snapshots can be used to change the "division" on the same delay so you can set it to dotted 8th for one snapshot, 1/4 note on another, etc... If the delay is set to a fixed "ms" setting, you can use snapshots to change that "ms"setting. But sadly, there is no way as of v2.6 to change from "ms" to "division" within snapshots... I would love to see that.

Did you buy the HD new or used? If you bought new, when did you buy it? Which MAC OS are you running? Have you used the port for anything else to know for certain it is working? Have you installed the drivers? Did you set the permissions for the drivers. Depending on the OS you are running, to activate the installed drivers (Monkey app) you must give permission in System preferences -> Privacy & Security
  25. Are you using "effects loop 1" already? If so, return 1 will not be available.
