  1. What GPM said. To use Helix with the K50 you're limited to using the 1/4" Out (set to Instrument level) to the amp input. You'll be using the HXFX like a traditional front of amp pedalboard. You can get some of the advantages of 4cm by using the Katana's time based effects (delay, reverb), and use the HXFX for everything you'd normally put in front of the amp.
  2. Re-read my post. The synth midi out is connected to the Helix midi in, therefore the midi port in Reaper is set to the Helix. I repeated the experiment in LIVE 10. The only problem I encountered was that I forgot to turn off the track monitor button. That caused a feedback loop. I then went back to Reaper and turned ON the track monitor button. Feedback loop! Do you have the track monitor button ON? Maybe that's the problem. Apart from that, I had no problem recording and playing back midi through the Helix.
  3. From what I understand, if you have an iPhone, you can get the camera connector kit, then set the USB 1/2 Destination in Globals-Ins/Outs to whatever Helix output you want to hear it on (default is Multi) which bypasses the processing blocks. If you don't have an iPhone, I imagine there's an equivalent for getting data from the phone to a computer.
  4. I have my MIDI synth MIDI DIN OUT connected to Helix MIDI DIN IN. Helix MIDI DIN OUT is connected to my MIDI synth MIDI DIN IN. Helix connected to laptop via USB. Laptop running Reaper. Everything set to MIDI Channel 1. Helix Globals-MIDI/Tempo settings : MIDI Thru = ON MIDI Over USB = ON Recorded MIDI track from my MIDI synth into Reaper. Played back MIDI track in Reaper using my MIDI synth as external sound module. Everything seems to work as expected. No Loopbacks. Am I missing something?
  5. I'm not sure I understand your problem. Are you trying to use the built-in Helix looper or are you trying to trigger loops in Ableton? If you're triggering loops in Ableton, then you use IC (Instant Command - the lightning bolts) messages. These trigger when the snapshot is loaded. If you want to trigger the loops manually/at-will, use the regular buttons (the two rows below the ICs). Try not to use NOTES as triggers. There's a problem with using NOTES with snapshots that I didn't see they'd resolved with the latest updates. If you enable "MIDI over USB" in Globals-MIDI/TEMPO, no MIDI cable is necessary, just USB from Helix to Laptop.
  6. Figure? Do you mean the Scribble strip? Never seen dots....could you clarify?
  7. In the Windows Sound Panel, select the Helix as your Soundcard. In Helix Globals-Ins/Outs set USB 1/2 Destination to Multi. Plug your Headphones into the Helix.
  8. You just have to look at how the cables are routed. If the USB cable is running parallel to ANY power cable, then re-route it or separate them by about a foot.. EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RMI (radio frequency interference) are hardware filters present on pretty much every power strip with surge arrestor/suppressor ever built. However, since these devices (surge arrestor/suppressors) work by shunting excess voltage (as might occur due to a nearby lightning strike) to ground. Obviously, that won't work for you, and a power strip thus configured might even start a fire if it tries to shunt a large voltage spike to a non-existent ground. You can get Ferrite Core clip on noise filters like these: https://smile.amazon.com/Ogrmar-20PCS-Filter-Suppressor-Diameter/dp/B07BWC5ZTW/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3KBNBLGGO101O&keywords=emi%2Frfi+filter&qid=1565735825&s=electronics&sprefix=emi%2Frfi%2Caps%2C174&sr=1-6 but I have no idea how effective they are. IIRC, the USB cable that came with my HD500 had one of these built into the cable, but the cable that came with the Helix did not. If you have a USB cable with one of these built in, you could try it.
  9. Line 6 SPECIFICALLY states DO NOT USE HUBS! Whoever gave you that info is misinformed.
  10. Who knows why? Like I said in my previous post, nobody can troubleshoot your whole system on a forum. I, too, have a whole bunch of stuff connected to my system, and NO extraneous noise whatever. Let's see, what's the primary and most visible difference between your system and mine? My electricity is properly grounded, and EVERYTHING runs off of the same properly grounded circuit, through high grade EMI/RFI filters. Could that make a difference.....maybe. But what the heck, just blame the Helix. THOUSANDS of happy Helix users in houses, apartments, high end studios and sleazy bars use Helix without USB noise problems. A handful, such as yourself, seem to be cursed. I'd like to be able to give you a logical, scientific answer that doesn't require you to move to a dwelling with proper grounding, but I can't. You have a solution. Your laptop. It may not be convenient, but it's obviously more convenient at this time than moving. Why stress over answers that no one can give? WAIT! I'll give it one last try. Is the Helix USB cable running parallel and close to a power cable? I hope that's it, 'cause it's all I got. Good Luck!
  11. Unplug all of your USB devices. Everything, including the HELIX, turned ON and wired normally except all USB disconnected. No noise? Plug in the Helix USB. Noise? If there's no noise until you plug in the Helix USB, with the ONLY USB device connected by USB being the Helix, then there's the problem. Nobody can fully troubleshoot a system like yours on a forum. The fact that your system isn't properly grounded and filtered for EMI/RFI interference further complicates the situation. You've already discovered the solution, using the laptop for the Helix. Nobody can help you with the logistics of where to put the laptop. You gotta do what you gotta do.
  12. I have to admit that I don't really understand ground loops. If his system isn't grounded (see his original post), can he even have a ground loop?
  13. I thought you said that the update resolved the issue?
  14. I never noticed this, as I always set it 8 stomp, 8 snap, and use the Bank up/down buttons to get to preset mode. In addition to your observations, if you reset to snap/stomp or stomp/snap, then go to a saved preset, all is well until you go to a New Preset. BUT - if you SAVE a New Preset, even without making any changes, that New Preset will no longer trigger the switch back to preset mode when loaded! I wonder if, when the presets rebuild, each one saves, but the New Presets don't rebuild and save? Also, would this problem occur with a clean install, or is it a problem with the rebuild process? I'm very interested in where this goes with support. Do keep us updated!
  15. Pete's not here, he's out with Dave. I'm sure that neither of them has a clue. I'm pretty sure that NOBODY has a clue, but he's not here either.
  16. Reality is the biggest mystery of all! Glad it's fixed, whatever the reason.
  17. Are you using a laptop? If so, try disconnecting it from the wall (battery power). If that doesn't work, I'd start by taking it to a local tech who can test your USB. It could be that your other MultiFX units don't have this USB problem due to design differences. Out of curiosity, what other USB/Audio/multiFX units do you have that don't have this problem? Are they running off of two prong wall warts? Having un-grounded electricity makes this difficult to diagnose, as most audio noise problems come down to grounding issues. I'd bet that L6 designed the Helix with the assumption that it would be used with grounded electrical connections. Since use of EMI/RFI filters and surge arrestors is standard practice when using high end electronics, and those type devices require a ground, I have to wonder why you'd risk your valuable electronics with un-grounded electricity?

    Helix backpack

The backpack is very sturdy and very well padded. I wouldn't put it on a plane as checked luggage or throw it in the back of an equipment trailer with a bunch of amps. The normal stuff you'd put in the pockets shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't put a bunch of spare weight plates in them. It's not designed like luggage, and doesn't stand up well on it's own. If I had a good flight case I wouldn't have bought it, but flight cases aren't usually made to double as back packs, and usually weigh a ton. Hope that helps.
  19. You should let them know that it didn't fix it. Like I said earlier, I don't now, nor have I ever, had joystick problems, though apparently I'm just lucky? Other than the 2.8.1 update (or could've been 2.8) setting that encoder global to Selection, I've had no problems. Do let us know what they say when you tell them it's not fixed.
  20. I just tested this because I couldn't remember for sure. WAH is assigned by default to EXP1 with Toe Switch enabled. VOLUME is assigned by default to EXP2 with Toe Switch enabled If ONLY the VOLUME Block is assigned, then the Toe Switch toggles the VOLUME Block ON/OFF. When toggled OFF, volume defaults to 100%. If VOLUME AND WAH are assigned, the Toe Switch toggles between WAH and VOLUME active states, but the VOLUME defaults to 100% when the WAH is active. Yes, confusing, which is why I always forget if I haven'y been creating presets in a while. To make it more confusing, it's possible to wind up with the Toe Switch functional, but the Expression pedal inactive. In which case, clear both blocks and start over!
  21. What happens when you activate the Toe Switch (by pressing hard at toe down position)?
  22. That is correct. The Stomp does not have Command Center. The ONLY MIDI it can send natively are the default PC#s of the Presets. That's 0-107. (36*3-1=107)
  23. Preset 01A = PC#000 Preset 01B = PC#001 IF your device recognizes PC#s 000-127, then 01A = PC#000 IF your device recognizes PC#s 001-128 then 01B = PC#001 MOST devices that recognize PC#s 001-128 see PC#000 as PC#001 SOME devices have an offset function to force this. You'll need to RTM for your device to find out about this.
