  1. Rich rock stars use Fractal more often for 3 main reasons: 1) They can afford to buy whatever they want. What they want is not necessarily a decision based on logic or musically superior ears. 2) They like how Fractal sounds (regardless of whether or not they've ever tried anything else). 3) They like to be perceived as using only the best, and "everybody knows" that you get what you pay for. Everyday working rock musicians using Helix probably (based on total sales) way outnumber Fractal users, but you wouldn't know that because nobody interviews them for MI mags, or pays them for endorsements. REALITY CHECK: Neither the big rock stars nor the average working band have audiences that can tell one from the other, or care.
  2. Can't find the OP, but IIRC what he said was that "it is widely accepted". That, to me, implies simple opinion garnered from things he's read and heard. It carries the same factual weight as "I heard it through the grapevine".
  3. No way to tell by the style of music you play. I have a HR FRFR112 and think it sounds great. I use it for guitar and bass, hard rock/blues. The Alto TS312 is identical except that the Alto has mic preamps. I've heard that the Mackies are very bottom heavy, you might like it. If you get a PA type speaker, put it on a short pole. Especially in this price range (no DSP), it makes a big difference in clarity to have it up off the floor. As for speaker diameter, bigger speakers move more air. Beyond that, there are no absolutes. Compare some at performance levels and decide which size you like best, YMMV, etc.
  4. We should be THANKING Niarolf for keeping us entertained/distracted while we wait for 2.8! I think I need a new hobby. Somebody over on Talkbass posted a vid of a Euphonium band doing a Metallica cover. Wonder if Helix would properly reproduce the mids......?
  5. Awww...that's so sweet! We hate you too! XOXO :-)
  6. In the Digital Modeling forum over on TGP this (skeuomorphic (spelling?) interface design) has been discussed, and IIRC, the reason is that it's development intensive and there's problems with screen scaling. IOW, not worth the effort/resources to develop and support. It's too bad, I like pretty interfaces too!
  7. We're not telling HIM to STFU, we're telling HIM not to waste his time on a troll. Everything in his post, you've been told multiple times previously. You claim it doesn't work, then turn around and insult those who try to help. As I previously suggested, it's time to return your POS Helix, get an AXE, and go bother THEIR community. We can't help you! DA#n! There I go again, feeding the troll. DOH!
  8. Excellent explanation! One other advantage of snaps over presets is that there is a slight lag with potential momentary audio dropout when loading presets.
  9. Rumors of troll armies massing at the borders, waiting for the spring release of v2.8 with it's top secret mid-range attenuator! Guthrie Govan to demo at Summer NAMM! Get your tickets now!
  10. DANGER Kilrahi, DANGER! Textbook definition of TROLL! When shown proof, he ignores it and demands DIFFERENT proof. He's getting off on pushing our buttons. NOW can we lock this thread?
  11. Not only does Niarolf possess superior ears, even his Spectrum Analyzer is superior! Just like other terrible people in this horrible community, I was forced to re-evaluate the evidence of my ears. By application of a spectrum analyzer, I discovered some amazing facts about this POS NO-MIDS Helix! SOME AMPS HAVE LESS MIDS THAN OTHERS! I arrived at this shocking conclusion by setting all tone controls at 5 (nominally flat - not always true for every tone stack). Then I did some WILD experiments! I turned down the BASS and TREBLE, and turned UP the mids. Amazingly, the mids displayed in the spectrum analyzer stayed the same - until I turned UP the channel volume. SURPRISE! MORE MIDS! And when I added a Cali Q Graphic with an inverted smiley face - MORE MIDS! It's so obvious to me now that, not only are my ears defective, MY SPECTRUM ANALYZER IS A PAID AGENT OF THE MIDS HATING EVIL LINE6 ENGINEERS! My Conclusion - We are SO lucky to have Niarolf to show us the TRUE PATH to sonic nirvana!
  12. For your ears only. The rest of us hear mids just fine.
  13. You wanted Helix portability with Fractal sound. I get it. You tried, it didn't work for you. If the trade-off is minor, like, Helix is 95% there, then portability might win out, but you don't seem to be happy AT ALL with Helix. None of our suggestions work for you. Time to move on, before your return window closes!
  14. Your last post in that deleted thread was "SMH this community is the worst ". And yet, you're still here! Look, this whole exercise is pointless. You've done the best you could to describe your problem. You've received the best advice possible from the most helpful members of this community. The hostility/frustration level (and I include myself here) is rising, is totally unnecessary and not at all constructive. At this point, it's really simple - and I've said it before - Time to return the Helix and get what you wanted in the first place - an AXE! Don't blame the Helix. Don't blame the community. Say "THANK YOU" to those who've tried to help, and LET IT GO!
  15. Niarolf's now deleted thread "How to make Helix sound warm and fat". His last post - "SMH this community is the worst " Are we still trying to help this guy? Must've been Brue58ski's post - "How to make a Helix warm and fat? Put it in a warm bath and feed it donuts. " I thought that was right on point! :-)
  16. Well, EXCUUUUSE me! Maybe it's time to walk your Enormous Reptile....just KEEP IT OFF MY LAWN :-).
  17. Of course! That MUST be it! And since the upcoming Linux version of HX Edit has a tuner in it, everybody's sucky midrange problems will be solved! BRILLIANT!
  18. NOTE EVERYBODY! DecayingWings' problem was solved by PM from another forum user. It happens a lot on all forums, but just a remender - PLEASE read the thread before posting! MODERATOR - As Niarolf has started a new thread to address HIS problem, can this one be locked? The somewhat offensive title will otherwise continue to draw comments FOREVER!
  19. I have Fremen (my favorites) and GlennD (also good). Never tried Choptones. Sometimes I just want to flip through a lot of ready-made presets until inspiration strikes. Give a man a fish... AND/OR you could go to CustomTone, DL all of Jason Sadites' presets, then check out his YouTube channel for videos on how and why he made them the way he did. You'll be making your own in no time! Teach a man to fish......
  20. Way to go. I'm using a Headrush FRFR112 (cheap and sounds good), but any quality powered PA cab will work. Go to GC and try several!

    Computer Needs?

You don't NEED HX Edit to create and edit your presets, that can be done directly on the board, and some people prefer that method. I use the board for on-the-fly adjustments, but overall, HX Edit is a lot easier on the back....
  22. You can get a really cheap ($10) DI to convert the 1/4" out to XLR: https://smile.amazon.com/Premium-Direct-Injection-Audio-Box/dp/B0027V760M/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1UGU066430O5Q&keywords=di+box&qid=1553559810&s=musical-instruments&sprefix=di+%2Caps%2C327&sr=1-6 You can also pay a lot more for the same features from a PRO level brand name, but it works for me.
  23. The Fletcher-Munson curve describes how our ears perceive sound. At lower volumes we hear a drop-off of the highs and lows. If you create a preset at a low volume level, when you crank it up live it'll seem too bass-y or screechy. If you create presets with headphones, the headphones themselves will color the sound, and when you use the preset live it won't sound right. If you create your presets through the equipment you intend to use live, at a level around/over 85-90db, you should be good.
  24. Way too much latency with BT. Even the rather expensive Sennheiser HD185 digital RF had too much latency. Tried the Galaxy Audio AS-900 ($200.00), but they were cheap plastic crap, noisy, with dropouts a compressed sound and really awful earbuds. Maybe the top of the line Galaxy stuff ($600) is better, but the bottom of the pro spectrum starts around $700. Pro IEM systems are expensive because, well, they work!
  25. What model EV speakers are you using? On the floor or on stands? Vertical or horizontal? How far apart? Room acoustics make a difference. How far you're standing from the speakers and typical volume levels (a smartphone SPL meter can help determine if Fletcher-Munson curve is a factor). There's lots of variables involved, more details would be helpful. EDIT: also make sure you don't have a mono block at the end of the chain
