Just tried that (using FS1/7 - the actual Preset Up/Down buttons). Doesn't work. Tried with Toggling and Momentary, no dice. I guess OP tried method 2 and it worked for him, so nice call!

Don't think you can with MIDI.

Turns out I DO have ProTools First on my box. Now I remember why I forgot - I HATE PROTOOLS! Anyhow, what I described works fine in PoTools also. I suppose I should spend some time to learn ProTools, so I can hang with the cool guys....but I can't use my (many) VSTs (including Native) without jumping through hoops. Besides, I have to do my laundry.

People who love IRs will always prefer them, no matter what L6 does. More flexibility in mic placement might cause more people to say "I don't need no stinking IRs!" which might not increase sales enough to justify the development costs, but it's one more point in L6's favor (one less complaint point for the nay-sayers), and we all know that L6 lives to make us happy.....

OK! Just tried it with Reaper, WORKS GREAT! WAY COOL! I learned something new!!!

As far as I can tell, Helix doesn't send Snapshot MIDI automatically. In order to record your snapshot changes, set the first IC for each snapshot to CC#69 and the snapshot #: SS 1 = 0 SS 2 = 1 SS 3 = 2 etc.... Yes, you'd have to do that for every snapshot on every preset that you intend to record. PITA! Sounds like something you might want to request over on Ideascale..... EDIT - this isn't something that I've done (recording MIDI from Helix), nor do I have Protools to try it. I might try it later with Reaper just for kicks. Let us know how it works for you!

Go to Ideascale. Do a search. VOTE on ALL of the many requests you'll find for this feature.

You can try a second cable, but if that doesn't work my guess (from a quick look at the MC6 manual) would be that communication with the MC6 is one-way. For example, using Helix Stomps set to send Toggling CCs, I can control the Effects in TH3, and the Helix LEDs will correlate with the Effect status in TH3. BUT, if I turn ON or OFF an effect manually within TH3, the Helix footswitch will not reflect that change. You're using the MC6 as a controller for the Helix, so as long as you make changes FROM the MC6, you're good, but changes made at the Helix will not be communicated to the MC6, UNLESS you configure the Helix to send messages to the MC6 (thus using the Helix as a controller for the MC6), which would be pointless, and probably cause a LOOP - that would be VERY BAD!
-
Over on Ideascale there are several requests to be able to configure snaps/stomps anyway we want - like if you wanted 5 stomps and 3 snaps to be able to do this! Do a search and vote for ALL of them!
-
Snapshots send the Instant Command when the preset loads, and again after a different snapshot has been selected and the IC configured snapshot is recalled. Snapshots do not re-send the IC on consecutive presses. So, when you load the preset it will likely turn your page whether you want it to or not, then not work again until you've selected a different snapshot and returned to the one you've configured. Stomps are not sent at preset load, and will work every press. If you want to set it up 4x4, then use snapshots to change the pedal configuration, and use stomps to turn pages.

Make sure you DL and read the manual carefully to be sure that it does what you need it to do before you buy.

He said he has a Helix, but wasn't exactly clear which model, or what "on the other effects units that Line 6 have" means. He could be talking about Firehawk presets! I couldn't find the Lenny Kravitz preset he mentioned on Customtone. Factory preset maybe? If he has a Floor, and wants to recreate a Stomp preset, wouldn't he need a Stomp connected to HX Edit to be able to see the settings? That's why I tried a Stomp preset in HX Edit (connected to my Floor), and both Stomp and Floor presets in Native. He's got to be able to see the settings in the one to recreate it in the other. Would be nice if HX Edit didn't require a HW unit to be connected in order to load/edit a preset. I think this might be a job for YouTube! Time to Learn How to make presets from scratch!

I have a Helix Floor. I DL'd from Customtone a preset from the HX Stomp section and one from the HX Effects section. Neither would import to my Helix (verifies what cruisinon2 said), nor would they import to Native. I don't think there's any other way to see preset settings than HX Edit or Native. It's my understanding that the current Helix "Core" makeover, which standardizes the internals between platforms, will make this possible in future updates. Not sure if it will be working in 2.8, maybe by 3.0?

Then my best suggestion would be the MIDI Solutions Event Processor and your MPX8.

Korg nanoKontrol2 is the smallest I know of, and requires constant connection to a computer (USB powered, drivers). You'd also need MIDI routing SW such as MIDIOX (PC) or Midipipe (MAC). If this is for desktop use with a computer, you might look into using MIDIOX (PC) to map a data conversion - convert incoming NOTES to CCs from your MPX8. For standalone (LIVE) use, there's a device made by MIDI Solutions called the Event Processor which can be programmed to do the NOTE to CC conversion. http://midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm
-
As far as I can tell after a quick look at the manual, your device only sends NOTE values, not CC#s. I've DL'd the User Guide, if I'm missing something, point me at the page # where it describes assigning CC#s. "12. MIDI Out: Use the included 1/8"-to-MIDI cable to connect this output to the MIDI In of an external MIDI device. MPX8 can then send MIDI Note On and polyphonic aftertouch messages to that device (set each pad's MID parameter to the desired MIDI Note number)."

Re-load the original preset and note the cab settings, mic, etc. Then combine them with the original cab settings applied.

!/4" outs are UNBALANCED (TS). See Page 7 of the manual: "26.1/4” OUT Use unbalanced 1/4" TS cables to connect to your guitar amp, FRFR speaker(s), studio monitors, or other playback system. When using a single amp or speaker, connect only the LEFT/MONO 1/4” jack." TRS will also work, but, while the Alto's 1/4" input is balanced, the Helix 1/4" out is unbalanced. If the TS310 is like my TS210, with the Helix 1/4" out set to "LINE", use the lower half of the Alto's volume control to avoid distortion due to the hotter LINE signal. Use the upper half of the Alto's volume control when using Helix XLR outputs and cables in Helix "MIC" setting. If using the Helix XLR "LINE" setting use the lower half of the Alto's volume control to prevent distortion of the hotter LINE signal. Use XLR cables in this configuration if using >20' cable runs to avoid noise.

Glad I could help!

I had a quick look at the docs. First, unless you're going to have your mac always connected with MIDI routing sw (MIDIOX on my PC works, dunno about mac), you need to have a midi host device such as this: https://smile.amazon.com/midiplus-USB-MIDI-Host-Controller/dp/B074NGTGHN/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1AITMRAQ4TEA2&keywords=midi+host+usb&qid=1551552247&s=musical-instruments&sprefix=midi+host%2Caps%2C176&sr=1-3 Then, with your APC connected to your mac, you load the editor sw, click "Note Display Type", select NUMBER, select the pad you want to use, click "CC#", select "TOGGLE" and type in the CC# for the FS BYPASS that you want to use, and save the configuration (sorry, got to RTM on that). That should allow you, with the MIDI HOST connected between the APC and the Helix, to do the deed without the mac connected. Here's two MIDI Routing possibilities for mac: https://ask.audio/articles/midirouter-is-a-simple-app-for-routing-midi-for-mac-musicians https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10541/midipipe The HW solution is probably easier for MIDIots, certainly better for going LIVE.

Take the Helix 1/4" output direct to your FRFR (don't monitor Helix through Ableton while recording). Connect the XLR Outs to your speakers (Or vice versa if your speakers aren't XLR). Ableton's Master Out should be USB 1/2 by default. In Helix Globals-Ins/Outs, set USB IN 1/2 Destination to XLR.

To edit tones on Helix you use HX Edit, which does not run on iPad. You can drag and drop presets from HX Edit to Native, or the reverse. You can import/export setlists between the two. HX Edit and Native do not automatically sync. EDIT: You can also record both an effected track and a clean track from the Helix, then use Native to try out different presets on the clean track withot re-amping back to the Helix.

Using 4cm, by setting a switch to toggle between the FX Loop block and a Helix preamp you get the best of both worlds - toggle the FX Loop OFF and the Helix preamp ON for a whole different sound, or toggle the FX Loop ON and the Helix preamp OFF to use your amp's pre/tonestack. As gunpointmetal pointed out, using BOTH a Helix pre and you amp's pre (going straight into the front WITH a Helix pre) is a recipe for mud.

If the amps have effects loops, set the Helix outputs to LINE and run it into the effects return. Or use 4cm to have the option of using the amps' preamps or Helix preamps.. If you're running into the instrument inputs, use the passive inputs and set the Helix outputs to INSTRUMENT. If the amp clips then use the active inputs. In either case, with the big knob either disabled or dimed you have Unity Gain.
