Is the HXFX USB connected to a computer? Try unplugging it.

What @silverheadsaid. Assuming that you have the ME Sp1-L6H (two outputs) if it was working you likely had the cables connected correctly to the TRS input. If you didn't accidentally change something in your Global Settings, the procedure when POSITION doesn't work is as follows (Page 48 in the version of the manual that I have) after selecting the WAH Block: 1. From Stomp mode, press and hold the knob for the parameter you wish to control. **That's POSITION in your case, Knob 1. HX Stomp XL jumps to the Controller Assign page and displays your parameter at Knob 1 (Parameter) **That's POSITION in your case. 2. Press PAGE and then press Knob 3 (Learn). The button’s brain icon glows blue. 3. Step on a footswitch, move a connected expression pedal, send a MIDI CC message from your external MIDI controller device, computer software, etc. The controller you selected is “Learned” and assigned. NOTE: To manually select a controller, turn Knob 2 (Controller). That's the same procedure as my HXS. I just turn knob 2. If the above is not the issue, check your cables. I can't think of much else that can go wrong, but TBH, I've had the problem myself, usually when I'm winging around trying a bunch of different things, never just out of the blue. If it happens again after you get it working, try to remember what you were doing just prior to the fail. It might have happened to me when I have the SP1 assigned to different FX parameters in different Snapshots. That's just spitballing though and would most likely have been my own error in setting up the snapshots..

BS has to be set to receive on Ch1. In Global Settings>MIDI, set MIDI PC TX to OFF (prevents the default PC# being sent); Snapshot CC Send to OFF (because IDK what CC#69 does in the BS). HXFX default snapshot (the one SAVED with the preset that loads on preset load) Instant Command1 (lightning bolt) is what you set to Bank/Prog 38.

I'm still hunting for the legendary "kerrang". Must be hanging around with Bigfoot...

It sounds good out of the box TO YOU. MAYBE the CUT control does the trick. Maybe the speaker on its own sounds awful and nobody would WANT to use it by itself. The EQ controls are nice to have and may be very useful with modelers/AIAB boards that don't have Global EQ, and initial reports from early adopters are that the FR does sound very good. Time will tell concerning the "hiss" issue. The point I'm making is that the PC has a lot of options the FR does not. Not everybody wants all of those options and for them, the FR could well be the answer. No objective BEST here, just what works best for each user.

Well PRAISE OUR FORD! We FINALLY have an AUTHENTIC(?) 2203 with BRIGHT CAP! It sounds EXACTLY like CRUSHED GLASS AZZ! OK, maybe I just haven't figured out how to use it yet. I'll spend some more time with it this weekend, maybe I'll have an epiphany.

My update configuration on both devices and computers was identical to yours (W10 fully updated). Guess we'll have to wait to see if anyone else with HXFX encounters this. In the meantime you should contact support.

Might be helpful to include little details like what kind of computer/OS/updating from version#. Also, are you using a hub or direct to a known MB USB port? I don't have HXFX, but just updated both HXS and Helix Floor on separate computers with no problems.

Over on TGP, DI (Digital Igloo - Eric Klein, boss dude) has stated that he HOPES to have the update out by December, but they're still squashing bugs.

Helix has 2 XLR Main Outs (dual mono or stereo) and 2 1/4" Main Outs (dual mono or stereo) There are 4 FX Loops, so 4 mono ins/outs that can combined into 2 stereo ins/outs and placed anywhere in the signal chain. You can have 4 separate (dual mono or stereo) signal chains with independent Ins/Outs. Example: Path 1A - Guitar Input (electric)>Send/Return1 - 4cm to/from guitar amp In/Send>Send2 Guitar amp Return>XLR (L) to FOH with IR Path 1B - Aux In (synth?)>Send3 to powered monitor>XLR (R) to FOH Path 2A - Mic In>1/4" Out (L)>DI box>FOH Path 2B - Acoustic guitar>Return (2/3/4?)>Send4 to Acoustic amp>1/4" Out (R) with IR>DI Box>FOH Keeping in mind that each main Path uses one of the processors, there could be DSP issues depending on the FX you use in each path. The attached screenshot shows one possibility for how this might work. Fill in the blanks with FX up to DSP limits. The MIC path (2A) has a Tube Preamp. The Acoustic path (2B) has an acoustic amp sim (the EQ Block). You could use this if your stage amp is a powered monitor vs actual acoustic amp, or you could move it past the SEND to combine with the IR to FOH. Or use the Tube Preamp as in the MIC path. Each independent SEND has a "Dry Thru" parameter that allows the signal to go out both the SEND jack and the Main Output. The Output configuration for Path 1A is pictured to show how panning is used to split the XLR/1/4" Outputs. Again, this is only one possible configuration.

It really depends on the amps being used. I have dual amp presets where Path 1 has the two amps and is fully populated (all 8 blocks assigned) and others where in addition to the two amps a wah and one mod are all Path 1 can handle (Vitriol comes to mind). I always use Path 2 for stereo reverbs and delays (also in parallel) which can also be dsp intensive, and whatever mods I want in stereo. Different strokes, YMMV, whatever works best for a given situation. There's LOTS of possible ways to do just about anything in Helix!

You can put two amps (and cabs if you like) in a single path. I usually place them in parallel and set the SPLIT to type A/B with a switch that changes the route. The parallel paths then merge back into one path. Whichever amp is in the active parallel path gets its signal to the post amp effects and on to the Output. Using all mono effects you can use the L/MONO Out and it will sound fine.

Anticipating your next post, you'll need a host box to do this with MIDI on your Cat60. This is one reason that whenever someone posts "Which one should I get?" I always say get the Cat100. The usual response is "I don't need MIDI.". Later on...

Catalyst models a real amp in this respect. On a real amp with two distinct channels with separate G/B/M/T/P/V controls, if you make a change to one channel and then switch to the other channel, will the physical knobs return to their original positions? Of course not. If you want a workaround it requires MIDI. EDIT: OR If you tap the Channel A or B button again for the modified channel, it will reload the saved preset throwing away the modification. Thanks to @txfloodfor this reminder If you use MIDI to switch channels, since each "channel" is actually a separate preset, the original saved preset will reload. Using the FS, however, will mimic the way a real amp works.

I totally missed the Zappa connection! I listened to a lot of Zappa during the Mothers period, but mostly lost the thread after that. His musical brilliance seemed to be that what sounded like chaotic cacophony was actually repeatable incredibly complex formal composition. He was definitely a completely unique individual. He had a strange fascination with NY and New Yorkers - Vai and Cuccurullo (the Canarsie connection) specifically - and his Central Park shows were classic. I was at a couple of those! "I hear you've been having trouble with pigs and ponies"... So many great lines!
-
I grew up on Staten Island in the 50s/60s. Canarsie was always considered another planet, but we never really understood why. It seems that when the Verrazano Bridge opened, half the population of Brooklyn, including many from Canarsie, fled to the Island (the "sticks"). Canarsie and S.I. have a lot of history in common - former resort area, failed amusement park, the Mob, racial issues and - DUMPS! Canarsie (Brooklyn in general) was where everybody fled from, S.I. was where they fled to, only to discover that it was "same as it ever was". My family (Italian) moved from "Hell's Kitchen", but most of my relatives lived in Queens.

No. Full-fat Helix (floor or rack, not LT), but not HXFX/HXS/HXSXL).

I think you mean Customtone. Other than downloading and trying them, no. My advice: Read the manual. Start with the stock presets. Examine how they work. Experiment with changing the parameters and swapping different effects from a block's category. Read the manual. Download some presets from Customtone. Examine how they work. Experiment with changing the parameters and swapping different effects from a block's category. Read the manual. This requires a lot of time and effort. Anything in life worth doing requires a lot of time and effort. Does that seem harsh? It is not harsh. IT IS THE WAY!

Yes. https://line6.com/customtone/tone/4328936/ But JIC I was wrong I DL'd the one he attached. Yep, imported fine, same one. EDIT - FWIW, this is why I'm not into Norwegian Death Metal ;-)

WINNER! Longest post with most details! EXCEPT the most important ones. Native version? HW Compatibility mode? I just imported the DARK HORSE preset from Customtone. No problems. Native v3.61. HW Compatibility mode OFF.

The new cabs are in fact collections of IRs. Separate IRs for each cab, speaker, mic, distance, angle etc. Rather than switching the IRs by selecting them individually from a list, you just drag the mics around in 3d and the IRs change as needed. That takes a whole lotta IRs!

AFAIK, no. BUT if you set the range of the expression pedal (position min/max) you should be able to do it. Probably a PITA working it out though. I don't recall what it's called (flux?) but I think there's a new effect in that new gadget they just released (Opus One?) that does this.

I think you're SOL on this problem. When you set an HXS FS to MOMENTARY, that only works with a FS attached to the HXS. Activating that HXS FS using MIDI the block reacts to the MIDI message, not the behavior programmed on the device for that FS. That's why when you set it to LATCHING vs MOMENTARY and use a MIDI FS set up as MOMENTARY (127 ON PRESS/0 ON RELEASE) it works. FWIW - the better commercial MIDI controllers have multiple pages of alternate functions for each of the limited number of physical switches so they avoid a user having to make tough decisions like this. IDK if your Arduino board has that kind of capability. You should probably remove this post from the BUG REPORTS thread since it's not a bug, it's just the way it works. You might try posting a feature request on Ideascale, but this is probably not a common enough use case to garner many votes.

Unless there's something else happening in your system - defective Helix, something pre or post - what you're hearing is the sound of the Solo Lead OD amp. Attached is a modded version of your preset. I added the Solo Lead Clean amp and a modded version of your main EQ block. ROUTE TO (FS11) toggles the amps, SWAP EQ toggles the EQ blocks. PILLARS bypasses the OD. If you bypass the OD, toggling the amps with ROUTE TO gives distinct CLEAN and LEAD tones. With either amp selected, toggling the EQ blocks significantly changes the sound. Likewise, if you swap out the SOLO LEAD OD amp for any other high-gain amp, they sound different. If you're getting different results with my example preset, the problem is one of the conditions I mentioned in the first sentence of this post. Let me know. FRY420-STJAMES2.hlx
