  1. On Helix, go to Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo. Set "MIDI PC Send to OFF. In each preset (or snapshot) that requires a change to the Volante, in Command Center set an Instant Command (the lightning bolts) to: Command = Bank/Prog MIDI Channel = the channel you've set the Volante to listen on (default is usually 1; default Helix BASE Channel is 1, if they match just leave it at BASE) Program = the Volante preset/patch/program/PC# which you wish to call. If the Volante uses a MIDI BANK structure (multiple Banks of 128 Presets, not internal such as the Helix 01A, 01B, etc) check the manual to see if the BANK command uses CC#0 or CC#32 and set the corresponding CC's VALUE to the Volante BANK #. Example: If the Volante uses CC#32 for Bank Change, then CC#32 VALUE 2 will USUALLY call bank #3 (count USUALLY starts at 0) The Program (PC#) will now call that preset in that Bank. The default (startup) Bank is USUALLY the first Bank (Volante Bank 1, MIDI Bank #0). Don't forget to SAVE your preset. If you're using different settings for other snapshots repeat the process, saving the preset after each change. Once you've done this, the Volante will not change unless you specifically tell it to with this process. The above is the USUAL way that MIDI devices work. RTM for your Volante and if you have a problem, get back to me.
  2. I think that the primary purpose of Customtone is to educate new users to the necessity of learning to create one's own custom presets from scratch. At best, Customtone presets are useful to show what NOT to do.
  3. Attach a copy of the preset (not a screenshot). The manual doesn't say anything about concurrent use of MIDI and the FS, but you can try it.
  4. Did you read the links I sent? That explains the recorded signal level. You neither NEED nor WANT to set the Output Block to USB 1/2. Set that to whatever output you normally use and set the HP to monitor that output. When using Helix as AI USB 1/2 is ALWAYS active. If you're listening to the signal though the DAW (Track Monitor ON) you're playing against your system's latency. If you're playing through your normal Helix Output monitored in your HP, that is ZERO LATENCY or DIRECT MONITORING. To summarize: Set the Helix Output Block to Multi (for easiest example). Set Global Settings>Input/Output>Headphones Monitor = Multi Set the Track Input Source to USB 1/2, Track Monitor Switch OFF. Track Level 0db; Master Level 0db. Set your Helix HP to a comfortable level. Record some chords. Stop. SAVE. Play back the recording. What you hear in your HP on playback should be equal to what you heard when recording. If not, you did something wrong. What DAW are you using?

    Pedalboard Amp

Stereo from a regular guitar cab is not all that impressive, and while the PC212+ stereo field sounds great in a small space like a rehearsal studio, on larger gigs, not so much.
  6. If you're using a real wah with a proper toe switch, place it between your guitar and wherever the guitar is connecting to. IMO, they sound best that way because, like, that's how they're designed to be used? If you're using an Expression Pedal connect it directly to the HXSXL so you can set it up to use Heel/Toe for Off/On. To send MIDI, yes, MIDI cables. Make sure the MIDI channels match.

    Pedalboard Amp

Seymour Duncan PowerStageâ„¢ 700 Pedal Amps | Seymour Duncan As for cabs, any 2x12 cab can be converted to stereo. Pick one with speakers that reflect your predominant tone - Hi-Gain = V30; Marshall (mid-gain) = GB25; Vox = Alnico Blue/Silver - you get the idea. I use a Powercab212+. It's kind of "abandonware" at this point, but the L6 warranty is always good and you can probably get a good used price on one from somebody who never took the time to learn how to properly use it. VERY common.
  8. That is normal. Your signal is being routed over USB and returned to your AI (in this case Helix) over USB which enters Helix at the Output Block, which is also where the HP signal is taken from. Yes, normal. Pick one, or use Multi if required and use the Volume knob to compensate. Your HP level is controlled by the HP Volume Knob. As for the low recording level: Recording Levels: Digital Recording | Should you be Tracking at -18 dBFS? (decibelpeak.com) What is the Ideal Level to Record Tracks into a DAW? (sweetwater.com) No, that's done per preset at the Output Block.
  9. The setting you're showing (STOMP/SNAP) means that: When FS 6 selects PRESET MODE, the STOMP switches that are on the TOP Row in STOMP Mode will be on the TOP Row and Snapshots 1-4 will be on the Bottom Row. If you set that to SNAP/STOMP, the STOMP switches that are on the BOTTOM Row in STOMP Mode will be on the BOTTOM Row and Snapshots 1-4 will be on the TOP Row. Stomp Mode will still display all Stomp switches. FS6 will always display PRESET/STOMP unless you HOLD it to enter EDIT Mode, in which case it will say MORE and the TAP switch will say EXIT.
  10. Or just create a preset with nothing but an amp, then go to the Input Block and manually change the In-Z settings.
  11. The Cat "Banks" and "Channels" are simply presets. Page 12 of the Pilot's Guide lists the PC#s required to call each. Example: PC# 3 calls Bank 2 Channel A. On Helix I have a single preset for everything. I use 6 Snapshots to call the Banks and a FS assigned to switch the Channels. Example: Snapshot 3 calls Bank 3 Channel A (PC# 1) and in that SS footswitch 1 calls Channel B (PC# 2) and I reload the SS to get back to Channel A. Your Stomp XL has only 4 snapshots, so you'd need to use separate Presets for each Bank (or only use 4 Banks). The EASIEST way to do this is to use the Instant Commands to call the BANK, then use an external FS like the LFS2 to switch the channels, but the following works if you don't have an external FS. Using an external FS spares a FS for normal Stomp type functions. Set HXSXL Global Settings>Preferences>Snapshot Reselect = Reload. Make sure that the Cat is set to the MIDI Channel you want to use. In a simple configuration the HXSXL Base Channel defaults to Channel 1. Since yours is pre-owned you'll need to check that. In the Cat's Global Settings (use the app) set the MIDI Channel to 1. In Command Center, set the preset's Instant Command 1 to Bank/Program>Program = 1 for Bank 1 Channel A. Set a FS to Bank/Program>Program = 2 for Bank 1 Channel B.
  12. Only with MIDI AFAIK, and the controller would need to be capable of multiple actions per FS.
  13. The effect's designed input impedance loads your guitar's pickups in such a way as to contribute to the sound of the effect. If, for instance, your first active effect (using just HXS) is an Arbitrator fuzz, that has (ITRW) a low impedance input. HXS knows that and sets its input impedance to mimic the RW effect. If you're doing the same thing in Native your pickups will remain loaded at whatever impedance your AI's input is at (check its specs). Typically, modern AIs imitate plugging directly into an amp. Most amps have an input impedance of 1M. If you're using an Arbitrator (input impedance 10k) and your pickups are loaded at 1M it's not going to sound "authentic", and your tweaks will not translate to the HXS. Of course, if you only use FX with input impedance of 1M then this doesn't matter.
  14. In the lower left corner of the Native UI is a little gear icon. Click it, go to the HW Compatibility tab and select HX Stomp. Instead of using your regular AI, set your host to use the HXS as your ASIO device, then plug your guitar into the HXS. Then you can set the Input impedance on the HXS to match whatever your first active effect is in Native. This is automatic when using FX on the HXS itself, but Native has no way to switch the impedance circuit. Of course, you need to know what impedance the effect is designed with, so here's the latest (AFAIK) list of those (attached). Or, if the effect isn't listed, you can just try different impedances until you find one that sounds best with your guitar. Helix 2.90 Amp Cabs Effects Impedance List.xlsx

    Bass Wet/Dry Rig

Answer depends on your specific goals and gear. Helps to know which Helix family device you're using? Using Stereo FX to stereo FRFR? Deep/drive on separate channels? Separate processing for each?
  19. I don't see how you'd do that.
  20. On the L6 website. It's called Customtone. Thousands of presets to try until you get ear fatigue. You'll soon discover what most of us have, They all suck. Good Luck!
  21. First things first. What FW version is your HXS on? When you boot it up the FW version displays on the screen. Make sure you're on the latest version - 3.60. If not, go to Line6 Downloads and find the latest version of HX Edit for your computer/OS. DL and install it. The first time you run the new version it will check your FW and ask if you want to update. FOLLOW ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY! If you don't follow the instructions EXACTLY you'll probably brick your HXS and then you'll be back here crying and we'll all be laughing at you. Not really, but you get the point. Next, what is your playback system? Are you trying to get the sound of a Plexi into a 412 cab on a pair of computer speakers? Now that you're on the latest FW and assuming that you have (at least) a decent pair of studio monitors, go to a NEW PRESET. Add an AMP+Cab Block, and the Dynamic Room Reverb Block (just so it's not totally dry). Now, play your guitar and experiment with turning the amp knobs just like you would on a RW amp. When you get a pleasing sound, go to the Cab. Experiment with changing the location of the Mic. Drag it around, move it in and out, note the changes that occur. Then experiment with changing the Mic entirely, noting how different Mics affect the sound. Then experiment with changing the speaker. By now you'll have an idea what changing the Mic and Mic settings will do to the sound. "BUT" you say, "That will take FOREVER! I want it to sound GREAT RIGHT NOW!" Look at it this way - you tried the presets - they sucked. You can either spend your time learning how to use your new toy, or you can spend your time on YouTube trying to find somebody with the same musical sensibilities as you, the same guitars, the same playback system - then not be able to get the same tones because it all sounds different on YT than it does ITRW. The choice is yours - choose wisely, and HAVE FUN!
  22. Yes, you can use the default preset PC# to CALL the song's sheet music, but Mobile sheets still needs to know which song is being called by that PC#. That would only need to be done once in Mobile Sheets, but you STILL need to assign separate switches to the Page Turn Prev/Next functions, and while that only needs to be done once in Mobile Sheets, it needs to be done in CommandCenter in EVERY Helix preset. If you don't have many presets you COULD create a template with the switches assigned, then re-create your Helix presets, but if you have more than a few that would be a real PITA.
  23. I know I said I wasn't going to read the manual, but I couldn't help myself. The video confirmed what I thought I saw about MIDI assignments. In addition to using PC (program Change) messages to call the songs, you'd also need to assign switches to turn the pages (Previous/Next);Scroll (Up/Down) and dozens of other actions depending on your needs. That would need to be done in CommandCenter, and each assignment is one less FS you'd have available in Stomp Mode for bypassing FX and calling Snapshots without switching to Snapshot or Preset Mode, plus it would have to be done in EVERY Preset. Seems to me that if you really need this sort of thing you should probably have a separate controller. Not that it can't be done, but looks like a big PITA to me. But then, I play R'n'R - we don't need no steenking sheet music! :-) Might be different if you're doing orchestral/theatre gigs.
  24. What OS is on your iPad? Is it listed as a compatible OS on the Catalyst FW download page? My iPad is iPadOS 15.7.5. Not listed, therefore, I'm going to say no.
  25. Here's where I would start: Guitar>Pedals>HK Input>HK SEND>HXS Input>Split A/B>PATH A>Mixer Block Path A HARD PANNED LEFT>Left Output>HK RETURN >PATH B>wet fx>Mixer Block Path B HARD PANNED RIGHT>Right Output>Joyo RETURN Assign your Exp Pedal to the "Route To" parameter of the Split A/B. Since you already have one pre-amp (the HK) feeding both amps through the HXS, sending the wet signal to the Joyo's Return prevents the Joyo's pre-amp from further coloring the signal. However, you may find that you prefer that. Also, the Joyo's Channel Levels (Volume knobs) are probably placed before the FX Loop. That means that the wet signal will be hitting a wide open power amp. Although you can control the amount of signal that reaches it using a GAIN Block in Path B, you may find it easier to use the Joyo's Volume Knob if the coloration added to the signal by the Joyo's pre-amp is acceptable. You'll have to experiment. I'm not sure if there would be a phase issue, and if the amps and HXS are on the same circuit/power strip there shouldn't be a grounding issue, but you do what you gotta do. I've attached a demo preset. pureaddict.hlx
