Helps if you're specific about what amps you're using. You said that you're taking the "amp 1 line out" to the HXS Input. Does that mean that the amp doesn't have an actual FX Loop?

Helix/HX 3.60 Update - Footswitch settings no longer support 8 Stomp buttons?
rd2rk replied to dsmall2112's topic in Helix
Stomp/Stomp would just be duplicating Stomp Mode. Just press FS6 to get there. -
When I say "nasty", that could just be my ears hearing it in isolation. In the mix it might be perfect for lollipop.
-
You realize that there's more than one type of MIDI message?
-
I have no clue what "Lollipop" is supposed to sound like, so I'm not sure what it is you're after. The "Lead" snapshot is nasty sounding (intentional?), but, no, I don't hear anything that sounds like clipping when the wah is on. Might just be that the 808 just isn't playing nice with the settings on the Grammatico. I was testing it with a guitar that has a JB in the bridge, so pretty high output.

Helix will send a MIDI message. The WIDI widget plugs into a 5-pin DIN, which Helix has, and sends the message. Everything between there and Mobile Sheet is outside of the question "Will Helix...". The next relevant question is "Can Helix send the MIDI message that Mobile Sheet needs to see?". I'm not going to read the Mobile Sheet manual to figure that out, so to answer that question you need to tell me what message(s) the Helix needs to send? Not just what TYPE of message(s), but SPECIFICALLY what message(s).

Amp FX Loop SEND>HXS Input>HXS FX>HXS Output>Amp FX Loop RETURN. Configure the HXS Input Output levels whichever way works best with your amp.
-
Further to what @codamediasaid - If you're not using the other loop for external FX you can use it like this: Fx Loop L configured as INST per codamedia's post. Instead of taking the amp's SEND to the L/Mono RETURN, take it to RETURN R configured as LINE. You might still need to do some level matching, as "LINE" level varies between devices, but there's other reasons to do it this way. Jason Sadites did a great video on this.

If your new unidentified computer running an unidentified OS is a PC running Windows 11, you might be screwed until L6 figures this out. In the meantime, disable your anti-virus real-time monitoring and see if that fixes it. If not, check to see what is running at start-up. Disable anything not essential (google if not certain).

@gregedwards69Please do open a support ticket, and please report back what support tells you. This is something that may or may not be an issue, but in either case is misunderstood. A proper reply from support will give the entire community a resource for when someone raises the question again. Thanks!

That's the definition of 4cm. You can ALSO, if you want, bypass the amp's preamp section and replace it with a Helix amp in an either/or configuration, but the default signal path is: Guitar>HXS Input>pre fx>FX Loop Block>HXS FX Send>amp input>amp pre>amp FX Send>HXS FX Return>post fx>HXS Out>ampFX Return. Did you look at the manual? It's all explained and illustrated pretty clearly.
-
It's called 4 cable method (4cm). Instructions WITH PICTURES(!) Page 9 of the Manual.

Amp>cab = good Amp>cab>cab = maybe good, maybe not. Would you do that ITRW? Bottom line - in the digital wonderland, there is only one rule, the oldest - "If it SOUNDS good, it IS good!". Virtual cabs/IRs are essentially another form of tone control. Whereas, IRL, connecting cabs to cabs could cause an impedance mismatch with your power amp, causing the magic smoke to escape, that doesn't happen in this digital wonderland. Go ahead and use an IR or three into your combo. If you like it, rock out!

In your case Helix acts as a normal pedalboard with all fx before the amp input. The 1/4" L/Mono Out set to INST in Global settings>Ins/Outs goes to the amp input. You can then: use a separate path or a split with a Helix amp model and cab to send to the DAW OR send a dry (DI) signal to the DAW and use NATIVE (or other amp sim) for your recorded sound OR to capture your amp's power amp section, get a Load Box with a Line Out and take that either back to the Helix to add a cab before sending to the DAW or direct to the DAW and add the cab there OR send the Load Box Line Out directly to the DAW and add the cab there. Which method you use depends in part on whether you're using Helix as your AI, in part what your tonal goals are for the recording, and in part on your budget. Alternately (ideal solution), there are Load Boxes with built-in fx loops, which would allow you to create a faux fx loop post power amp for your time-based fx, getting them out of the pre input fx chain, but they are pricey: Boss WAZA Tube Amp Expander Amplifier Attenuator | Sweetwater There may be cheaper ones, you'd have to research it.

It helps to know which device you're using. Assign the interval parameter to snapshots - Helix manual page 48 "Using Snapshots". Save each snapshot after adjusting the parameter and before moving to the next snapshot.

Does your mono auto wah have a stereo input (separate L/R or single TRS)? if not, how can you send it a stereo signal? If you send a mono signal to a stereo looper L/R input, you'll just get dual mono out of the looper, as it is simply a recorder, not an FX PROCESSOR (unless it is). Dual mono DOES NOT equal Stereo. Dual mono is simply two identical signals. STEREO is a signal that's PROCESSED to send different signals on discrete left and right channels. If you send mono or dual mono into a STEREO EFFECT, the output of the effect will be stereo. To send a stereo signal you need a Stereo FX Loop Block and a 1/4" Male TRS in the SEND. To keep it Stereo anything between the SEND and RETURNS needs to be Stereo. This usually requires that the male TRS be split into dual TS (male or female as required). The last device before the RETURNS needs to be Stereo so it's L and R outs can be connected to the HXS L and R RETURNS. Stereo FX>Stereo Send>mono whatever = mono Mono FX>Stereo Send = dual mono>stereo FX = stereo A stereo device splits a mono signal L/R. A mono device sums a stereo signal to mono. This is ALWAYS true, regardless of where in the signal chain you place the S/R Block. If you place a FX Send L block after a stereo effect, the SEND TIP signal will carry the L signal, NO signal on the RING. No R signal reaches the SEND. If you place a FX Send R Block after a stereo effect, the SEND RING signal will carry the R signal, NO signal on the TIP. No L signal reaches the SEND. This is how you do 4cm with stereo amps. Is it smart enough to... NO, it's really dumb. It's totally on you to configure the routing.

Need more info. "certain presets" - I assume you mean factory presets? which ones, specifically? "don't allow the music to play through the amp" - what amp are you referring to? "Again, this is all with a USB cord from the laptop to the Helix. The computer recognizes the Helix as an output for the sound. " - that usually means that streaming music from the computer/internet will play through the Helix outputs, not that Helix will play through the computer's soundcard and speakers.

Global Settings>Ins/Outs>Guitar In Pad = ON for high output pickups, but whatever sounds best with your guitar. 1/4" Outputs = Instrument, since you're going into an amp's guitar input. From the manual: Choose “Instrument” when connecting the Helix 1/4" outputs to stompboxes or the front of guitar amps; choose “Line” when connecting to mixers, studio monitors, or standalone recorders. When using a single amp or speaker, connect only the LEFT/MONO 1/4" jack. Global Settings>Preferences>Auto Impedance = First Enabled This ensures that your pickups are loaded appropriately for the first enabled effect, just like with a pedal board ITRW with true bypass FX. From the manual: Determines how the Guitar In’s impedance circuit behaves when the Input block > Guitar In-Z is set to “Auto.” When set to “First Block” (the default), the impedance circuit reflects the impedance of the first block on Path 1A, regardless of whether it’s enabled or bypassed. When set to “First Enabled,” the impedance circuit reflects the impedance of the first enabled block on Path 1A. Input Block of Path1A in EVERY preset - from the manual: Input > Multi and Input > Guitar blocks have an additional Guitar In-Z parameter. Helix has an impedance circuit on its Guitar Input that affects tone and feel by loading your guitar’s pickups as they would by an effect pedal or amplifier. A lower value will typically result in some high frequency attenuation, lower gain, and an overall “softer” feel. A higher value provides full frequency response, higher gain, and an overall “tighter” feel. The “Auto” option allows the impedance to reflect the impedance of the first block on Path 1A

I'm pretty sure that DSP and Storage are different memory areas.

I would get a purpose-built acoustic guitar amp.

Did you perform the post update factory reset? Try it again?

Did you also update HX Edit?

@ohlm- by now it should be apparent that there are 3 experienced users trying to help you, and we're all saying the same thing. Follow the directions and be specific!

What you did in the past really doesn't matter. As far as we KNOW, it never happened. All that matters is the here and now. When an OS asks for an app to open a file, it usually means that you tried to open a non-executable file and the OS is really saying "HUH? WTF?". If you installed and ran HX Edit 3.60, there should be no such questions from the OS. HX Edit detects the version of your Helix and walks you through the process. AGAIN - FORGET about whatever it was that you think you remember doing in the past. DL, install and run HX Edit 3.60 and, if the process fails anywhere along the line, BE SPECIFIC about the steps you followed and the EXACT messages you received.
