the only way to really keep 2 signals separate is to use no effects pre splitting the paths a and b, and no effects other than dual mono after the mixer which needs to be panned left and right. you end up with 2 separate mono channels. or pan both to center to mix and get some stereo depending on effects in post position.
-
having the option to change setlists with the bank buttons would be nice. push one longer or both simultaneously to enter setlist switching mode.
-
there are not enough stereo effects in the pods. i would gladly buy some effects packs. getting external pedals like the zoom is great but no real solution when effects in the chain can sum to mono.
-
If you mix two different signal paths such as two different Amps back to mono by either setting the mixer to put both channels to centre ...... as hurganico noted: if panning the mixer hard left and right you lose one stereo channel in each path. if you pan both to center you retain both stereo channels. if you only have one channel and pan you also lose (mute) the other stereo channel and the signal is one half mono.

just watching a truefire tutorial video 50 ultraintervallic licks u must know. Jennifer Batten on Variax all the way through hours. not any noticeable tweaking unfortunately, but consistantly jjust great sounding stuff, aside from the playing which is awesome. great backing tracks as well. there are samples : which variax is this, or does it make a fifference? wonder if other vids of mrs. batten have the variax as well.

Attention Line 6 some honest feedback from a new user..pros and cons
panaman replied to awesomejohn7's topic in POD HD
input settings: there is no right or wrong but since guitar-same is the default setting, it shouldnt be discarded as wrong. same goes for setting both pans to center. routing: just recently with new findings on stereo thru vs. true stereo effects the schematics had to be redrawn. 5 years into the product and still nobody understands the routing fully. sounds different depending on equipment: why is it then that Glenn sells patches and they probably do sound great for all? customtone: (and factory presets) there are some weak ones. some mediocre, some great and a few surprises. something like 5000 tones on customtone. thank you all for sharing. new tones can really bring new ideas and new ways of playing. tweak a little, add your favorite effect (cave? particle verb? or just pitch). power switch: wouldnt make much sense on the unit when the wart is always on. would still ne a nice feature. better to have the power supply inside the unit and a power switch. get a exp2 pedal get a 2nd pedal to complement the pods effects or add the ones that the pod doesnt have or doesnt emulate that great.- 45 replies

just when i thouhjt i had it figured out... there really should be stereo effects only in a HD device. with a spread/width parameter and a mono switch. all the distortions and wahs dont take a lot of dsp anyways, and a stereo version would likely take less than twice the dsp of the same mono effect. think big. its a pod. you will love it.

Has HD500 fw 2.62 changed tone of your existing patches?
panaman replied to edstar1960's topic in POD HD
one factor to consider is the direct sound from the strings when playing at low volumes. a slight change in volume will totally change the balance between direct and pod signal. my 1st impression was with eq off everything sounded like i was on a bright channel. may have to reflash.- 49 replies

not an option, already got the model packs. i actually think my pod sounded best with the original firmware it came with, 1.4 i think. many posts saying they are not going to use the eq and even it shouldnt be used makes me feel not so minority. a/b-ing by turning the eq on and off does not say anything about the general sonic impact of the new firmware.
-
i was probably wrong assuming the squeal happens only when using the pod as a (external) pc soundcard over usb. because it never happened here where my pod has been on for the last 3 or so years straight, and i do use the tuner frequently, with the last 4 firmware versions. maybe there are certain pod hardware revisions more suseptible to issues. since the squealing issue was supposedly fixed in the latest firmware versions (see sticky on top of the forum about the tuner bug), you should check und update if not yet done. after reading your post again, im not sure what your setup is when you call it a mesa pedal. anyway, if you disable the effects loop on the amp when the squealing happens, and if it works when playing the guitar directly, turn down the volume and gain and connect the pod to amp guitar in. if the squeal is still there and cannot be silenced it means the pod crashed. power cycling should help.

globalization sucks. what a laughable and useless freebie, when everyone agrees it should be disabled always. i want my harshness back, the les paul doesnt need any more warmth. i want this thing out of my firmware. cant roll back either now that i got the model packs. they should have made the models free and made those pay who really wanted the eq, and see how that might have turned out. eq global fiasco. bummer.
-
you want eberything on the same outlet to avoid hum. for your problem probably not relevant, but who knows until you try. are you using the pod as a soundcard or standalone when it happens?
-
i havent seen this problem reported related to the fx loop. usually the socalled tuner noise bug seems to me happens when using the pod as a soundcard. (and why would you want to do that, with all the other digital and analog connections available on the pod.)
-
i have not used the pod as a soundcard and dont want to change my perfectly running system with soundcards worth 2 or 3 pods. . found this on another, unrelated forum. thought i`d share: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml i did test on my pc and used it to optimize my latency and buffer settings. wonder if someone could test on the pod-as-a-soundcard, with old and new firmware version, before and after updating.

where is the global eq in the chain, before or after the looper, if the looper is in post position/last in the chain?
-
try a dummy plug in the 1/4" R out. using L out only sums to mono. xlr does not sum to mono.
-
using a mono effect after the mixer makes everything mono. we want effects packs with all the current mono effects as stereo. the monos are a major cause for the whole routing mess. there shouldnt be any mono effects in the HD series.
-
i had not realized there really is a limit of 8 effects slots. moving an effect to the path B removes it from its original slot. when setting 2x4 effects in parallel, the looper ends up in the center of the display with a long empty line coming out. so the notion they allow anything until hitting the dsp limit is not quite true.
-
spdif can be switched to "dry inputs" or "match outputs"
-
my soundcard says higher samplerate = lower latency, obviously lower bitrate also lower latency.

the cards are a little dated, 15 year old sharks @60mhz . the uad and motu are pcie and probably have a better future outlook. with the pci bus fading out of modern mainboards, the are cheap on ebay lately. if they go down much further, i might just get me an older mainboard and try and hit their dsp limit of 45 sharks, with all the extensions. but 9 dsp go a long way already. never a glitch, running for 10 years straight 24/7 in the various incarnations of my pc. 2ms latency no cpu load. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun03/articles/creamwarescope.asp
-
i tend to believe everything the experts say on this forum. but the looper not using any dsp? i want 2 loopers then. or better yet 3 or 4.
-
i have 2 creamware cards with 9 dsps combined and can still hit its dsp limit fast when engaging a 64 channel surround mixer, 31 band stereo graphic eq, a couple of reverbs, effects and 16 track asio connection to the daw. not to mention soft synths. you can never have enough dsp. get a fast car. pay all you want. there is going to be a speed limit your motor cant exceed, even if you toss out the hood and doors. and somebody will always be faster.

i found some tones downloaded from customtone wont sound unless i put the little arrow in the pod display above the amp symbol, once in place the controls react as expected. for some tones i have to go back and forth to the tuner once or twice to get any volume. i believe the edit soft doesnt always translate well between the various pod models and firmwares when using customtones.

a choice like either the looper or the global eq active could have left some extra dsp. just hate the idea its eating up dsp even when not in use. eq of all the things that could have been fixed would have been last on my list, its nothing new, plenty of eq already in the box.
