I believe the answer does lie in his post. What I think he is describing is, for example, it would sense when you play a note and could then trigger a flanger to start it's flange sweep from the beginning. So it swoops up or down exactly when you want it for one thing...I think. It sounded like the rest was basically using it like a ducker.

I think you could assign the EXP pedal's footswitch to boost the pedal up to 100% by assigning it too that. It will, of course, need to be the ONLY thing assigned to it.

One possibility that I haven't totally formulated in my head is you could put the drive in a parallel path that goes in and out at the same spot. Then set up the distortion on the main path before or after that point that the drive goes and then comes back to the main path depending on where you want the distortion to be. So the drive will still have it's own switch. You then put a gain block in before the drive on the parallel path and set it so that it is at -120dB when it is turned on. So, you now set up the switch that is assigned to the distortion block to the gain block as well so that when the distortion block is on, the gain block is also on which will cut the signal going to the drive to nothing. When the distortion block is switched off, the gain block is also switched off. It's a little convoluted and if you already have a parallel path going then, of course, it won't work. Hope this makes sense. It does to me sitting here without my Helix in front of me.

I found these setting which are for a flanger in Fractal. Type: Analog mono Rate: 0.446hz Depth: 11.3% Feedback: 80.5% Time: 0.530ms Auto Depth: Off I have no idea how it sounds. I'm not home. This is a quote from Eddie about his settings. Keep in mind he was not always truthful with his settings. I set the three knobs on the left between 11 o’clock or 11:30, and the last knob on the right [regeneration] is all the way up. I might fine-tune the speed a little to match it to the tempo of the song, like on “Unchained” where the sweep goes perfectly with the riff. I was just goofing off and experimenting. It wouldn’t have sounded good to use the flanger all the way through. The riff just needed a little bit here and there. It’s a cool, tasty little tidbit that I threw in there to draw attention to the riff.

There's this "official" Line 6 pedal. It's plastic but I've had mine for awhile with no issues. Not put in heavy use though and I do think it's currently overpriced. But here it is. https://www.amazon.com/Line-6-EX-1-Expression-Pedal/dp/B000JKVMJ4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3TMIN5F2GC1Y3&keywords=ex-1+expression+pedal&qid=1680267431&sprefix=ex-1+expression+pedal%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc

91 more pages?!?! Well that's just great! More homework!. :D -
I have seen llittle to no speculation on the next update. There's a 3.6 thread but there isn't a lot of speculation there either. Could it be that people are tired of doing it? Oh, say it ain't so. It has provided me with so much entertainment.

I agree with everything you say. I'm still not sure exactly why they didn't take off more than they have. I think price, unfortunately, has a lot to do with it. The people that buy guitars in that price range I'm going to assume, are older and more set in their ways and have access to more money than younger people. They need to figure out how to get this into a $300 guitar. Don't ask me how. Just one of my many little theories. It's probably about several other things as well. There are other options for your Variax. Check these threads out. And I recall reading recently someone getting an off brand battery and said that it works. I'll keep an eye out for that thread. I have a Helix floor so I don't use the battery.

The Variax was described as a labor of love by a Line 6 rep. So I take that to mean it's not so popular but they still like it and are still supporting it. Maybe not a lot of support but it is still there. I hope they fix the JTV Variax tone/volume knob issue in the Helix before they completely bail on it.

There was a whole thread on this here awhile ago. I think it'll have the info you want.

For your new album, you of course used the Helix for all your guitar parts.....Didn't you? (Ha ha. Do not bother responding)
-
I know!! Right? I've returned 5 guitars in the last month because they can't seem to sell me one that's in tune!!! I mean what gives?
-
I cannot fathom what could be happening that would make the Helix (or most any unit) to cause a guitar to go out of tune after the 9th fret on all of the strings on any guitar. I find the post to be suspicious.

I'm here just to see if the Bad Monkey drama made its way here XD

I still have mine. I love it. One of my favorite pedals. But if someone wants to give me what other people are getting for one these days, I may need to reconsider my feelings towards it. -
So just to be clear, The channel volume, no matter where it is on the interface, controls only the level of the volume/loudness of the amp, after all of the parameters. So, like a fader on a mixing console, affects ONLY the overall volume of the amp in the chain and in no way changes the way it sounds. Why did they do that? I don't know. Why are you asking me?
-
I think this is what you mean. It's on ideascale so go ahead and upvote it. It's the major way to get Line 6 to hear you. They rarely come here.

^^^This. Just turn the Master all the way up. Or you can even set it so the Master only controls certain outputs. When you make it so it doesn't control certain outputs, that output, whatever it is, defaults to being turned all the way up. That makes your output block the Master volume level. You could then assing the output level to your Expression Pedal and that then would become your Master audio output. Which ever method you use, the bottom line; it's already there. One of the coolest things about the Helix is if you can imagine it, there's probably a way to implement it.

There are a lot of things on the internet about this. There is a knob puller that you can purchase. I did not buy one. Most of the advice is to use a towel. I did not do that. I used two spoons and a towel. Put towel around the knob on the guitar's body to protect the finish. Then put the tip of each spoon, upright, opposite each other under the edge of the knob keeping the towel underneath to protect the instrument. Then just lever (pry) each side up with the spoons. I tried to find a pic of this on the internet. No luck. Then just stick a piece of cardboard (not corrugated cardboard) in the shaft hole and press the knob back on. Hope this makes sense. -

I probably just missed it but what receiver/transmitter will be used on the Helix itself. I LOVE the idea. -
I agree. I would like to use the tone knob to craft the acoustic guitars on the Variax but am unable to do so because of this bug. I have mentioned this several times in several threads. I was even the one that sent them several patches to demonstrate the issue. That's when they put that comment in the known bugs area. FYI, they don't really keep an eye on this forum. They seem to pay more attention to the Gear Page, Digital and Modelling Gear forum. The Varaix has been descrbed as a labor of love for Line 6. I take that to mean it's still not that popular but they're still keeping it around.

That is weird. Just some thoughts. Could you have been plugged into the Aux 1/4" input. Was the Guitar Pad on. You've solved the problem so this is all moot. More jsut curious. I'm pretty sure the answer to the Aux input is no. But ya never know.

This may be an old issue. The model select knob that you press in to switch between modelling and the magnetic pickups often doesn't move down enough to engage the switch. The solution is to take the model knob off (carefully) and put a scrap of paper in the shaft hole. This will force the knob to push the shaft down further and engage the switch. I hope this makes sense. It's not as scary to do as it may sound.
