Well, there's that. Actually I would have the manual handy as he goes through his tutorials to help you get a well rounded learning experience. Look up whatever he talks about.

Just to play devil's advocate, I would find it strange that if you are building a pedal that is supposed to be on the floor in front of us for the purpose stepping all over it for hours, you would build it so it can handle that job without breaking. At least for awhile. It would be like making a hammer that breaks after pounding in 5 nails. Yes, it's a cheap hammer but it should do the job it's supposed to do for awhile. It's not like they're buying the LT from a dollar store. I would expect that stuff to fail quickly. Even the hammer. I would at least expect the LT to last a lot longer than it has for these people. Yes, it's $500 less than the Helix regular but I've had several $1000 effects units and they still work after a decade or two. Hell my $500 Line 6 floor effects units are all still working. Given your theory, shouldn't they have broken down quickly as well? If not $500 quicker?

This would be a great place to start. https://www.youtube.com/user/gtr111/videos He has a whole "How to create a great sounding tone series". Part 1 isn't numbered but after that he's up to part 17 right now. There are other things as well. Keep in mind, this is not the last word on this at all. This is just his method. But he's very thorough and will get you familiar with the unit.

That would be another part of what I was talking about. You have to save a lot when you do snapshots and keep track of exactly what you want. Easy to get lost. And, again, if this is the issue, it's very difficult to diganose or even tell you how to do that without actually being there. It seems to be one of those things where there are so many possibilities, each situation has it's own problems.

This is prettty hard to diagnose without being there but it kind of sounds like one of your parameters isn't assigned to snapshots. Often when snapshots doesn't do what I want it to, that's been the reason. Pan, level, mix, etc.. I'm not sure what. That would be the firs thing I would look at. Make sure every parameter involved is assigned to snapshots. Snapshots are great but it's easy to get lost in complicated patches.

What he's looking for is fairly specific but having said that, the chord drone thing would work well for this. Add the E-Bow/aeon and I think you''re as close as you're going to get for that song
-
I like. Thank you!!!!

Boy I need to crawl out of my cave a little more. Never even heard of these things. The Aeon is even cheaper than the E-Bow but I think you can get more sound variations from the E-Bow. Like the "bowing" effect. The Mel 9 is very cool. Love that it's polyphonic. Just a bit too expensive for something I would intend to use but I'm old enough to know I wouldn't use it much. (Kind of like my E-Bow). These are all good solutions to your problem I think. Just depends on your taste.
-
Try an E-Bow. http://www.ebow.com/home.php I have actually had bagpipes a couple of times when I've performed that song. It was so cool.

I would say it didn't just appear I was singled out since it was my post that you quoted. That in itself, did single me out. I don't see how anyone could have come to any other conclusion.

Have you tried the Double Take in the Modulation area? It's supposed to "fatten" things up.

His statement was very unfair and I will address those if I choose. He essentially didn't address the topic either. He addressed the fact that he thought the OP was " young and inexperienced or you just don't have a clue about how to tweak and adjust sound." and that he was " Pretty silly if you have a Marshall tube head and all you get is nasty tones." So he was doing exactly what you accused me of. "Jumping in because someone needs to be put in their place". Not really addressing the topic either. Just being insulting. I will address that whenever I choose. As you chose to address my comment and not his. Maybe you should have addressed his as well. But you didn't. I did. And will continue to do so if and when I choose. And isn't "Jumping in because someone needs "put in their place"" exactly what you did?

Wait a minute!!! That's what the Helix I just bought out of the back of a truck looks like. I was assured it was the one Van Halen & Alex Lifeson used. DAMN!!!!!

Who'd Want More Custom Model Banks?
brue58ski replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have often wondered why Line 6 doesn't have more, at least, pickup choices. How about modeling this one (Van Halen). https://legendarytones.com/edward-van-halen-pickup/ Or the Seymour Duncan JB or the Hot texas ones that are supposed to be like what Stevie Ray Vaughn used. There's a bunch out there But they haven't ever done that. -
Boy, you sure ascertained a lot about this guy from a couple of words. A couple of words in a post no less. Wow. That is AMAZING.

Search frfr. You'll get a lot of advice.

The looper in the Helix is VERY basic and I don't think it will do what you want it to do. Which is, I think, you want to be able to stop it without it immediately playing back. I'm not totally sure but I don't think that's possible. And if that's what you want to do, even if you could stop it right away, if you stop playback and hit record again it overwrites the previous recording. Basically you can only layer tracks as it's "going" and if you stop it and hit record again, you will record over everything. The Helix is great but the looper is NOT a good reason to get the Helix. You can always put a good looper in an FX loop but the Helix looper is basically a one trick pony.
-
I have to disagree with you on this one. Ideally, if a product is complicated, it should have a manual to help people use it. Yes the Helix is easy to use and so far, I haven't really had to reference the manual. A couple of times. But I wouldn't expect a novice to know how to use it intuitively. I wouldn't expect a novice to know how to use the FX sends and returns on an amp. Yeah, I guess he could just start plugging stuff in and out but I think that's a bit ridiculous. especially since many FX sends/returns are TRS stereo type things. That's a basic thing and I wouldn't expect anyone to just figure that out.

Yes, unity gain has nothing to do with 0dB at the mixing board, I know that and that's not what I was talking about. I mentioned 0dB only in reference to the setting on the actual output level. And, in anticipation of a certain statement you may make, I know 0dB has nothing to do with the actual output level. It is only a reference point. If it's at 0dB but I have my amps channel volume at an extreme low level, I won't get a level at 0db at my output. Of course. But that's not the case I was referring to. My point was (maybe I wasn't clear on this) that some patches, many of them simple amp cab delay reverb, have a lower output than the input with EVERTHING turned UP as HIGH as it's volume/channel volume will go. Just seems strange. This is with the master volume at full volume.
-
I understand what you are saying and in fact, as far as how I send my level to the board I do it exactly the way you do. Mic level output, master volume disconnected so it's at full volume. I didn't mention that but since I talked about the master volume being all the way up, I didn't think I had to. Yes I can manipulate the signal, by using a compressor, to get the signal up but it seems odd to me that if EVERYTHING in the path is turned up as high as they will go, amp, cab, delay, reverb, I still have to add a compressor to get the signal back up to a workable level. I have some theories on this and I'm not looking for a solution really. Just would be nice that's all. I don't want them spending less time on those updates to fulfill my wish.
-
My point is that if it is unity gain, which all the outputs are with the Master Volume knob turned all the way up, I don't think I should have to add a compressor to get a decent volume out of it. This is with EVERTHING turned up as high as it will go. This is the case for a patch I just created yesterday. Simple amp, cab, delay, reverb patch. All volumes are all the way up and I still don't get a good signal without a compressor. With nothing in the path, I got a good level.
