  1. Oh, someone beat me to it. How dare they!!
  2. One thing to do for this is in the Global area, you can assign the main volume knob to control only the 1/4" outputs so you can adjust the level going to your monitor and not effect the XLR output level. When you do this the XLR outputs act as if they are turned up all the way.
  3. 1) There is a way to get the High G on the 5th string in the JTV Variax's. Fire up the the Workbench HD program's interface, call up the/a banjo. Click on the STRINGS tab. There are two tabs there. TUNING and PARALLEL PITCH. Make sure both of those are ON. Above those tabs are the strings VOLUME. Turn the 6th and 5th string volumes down to 0 and leave the rest of the strings at 100% Tune the 5th string to G (+10) (you can then also change the tuning of the rest of the strings). Click on the PARALLEL tab. tune the 5th string up an octave (+12). There is a MIX parameter in this tab. Turn all of the PARALLEL PITCH mix parameters down to 0 except for the 5th striing. Put that at 100%. It sounds TERRIBLE!!! But it does work. One thing that does make it work better is a partial capo but it is a pain. So you don't have to tune the 5th string up as much and you can then put the capo on only the 6th and 5th strings to compensate for the rest of the tuning. I would use the partial capo trick for performance although to be honest, it still ain't very good. 2) I've found that the 3 Sigma acoustic IR's do help with the acoustics on the JTV. I've only tried the Martin IR's. Only $10 so it was worth it to me to try. Not a major difference but a good one. It was worth it to me. Hey, I should try them on the banjo!!
  4. Thank you for this. I seem to be hearing more and more positive reviews for the Headrush and given that it's relatively inexpensive, it's currently on my radar. Question, would you say the sound quality, aside from the volume of course, is the same, better or worse than the Atomic in your opinion?
  5. If you're talking about the HX editor there is a little clock icon to the right of the top parameter slider. Click on that and I believe it will then list notes instead of ms.
  6. Just make sure you're up to date. Check this thread out. https://line6.com/support/topic/33744-new-helix-purchase-need-help/?tab=comments#comment-257324 - The looper length is too short. I knew this going in and it was swaying me toward the AX8, but the Helix won on too many other counts. I play a lot of solo gigs and looping is an important part of that. I may need to still bring my trusty RC-1. The looper is VERY basic. I would definitely use your RC-1 in one of the FX loops. - Is there a way to move a block from Path 1 to Path 2? I tried copy and paste as well as just moving the block, but nothing seemed to work. I ended up just deleting the block and recreating it on the other path. This sounds like you're Helix firmware isn't the latest because you can do that now. It sounds like you did this but right click on the block in Path 1. Select COPY (I can't remember if there is a CUT option). Right click on a block in Path 2 and select PASTE. If those options don't show up, you do need to upgrade your unit. Don't fo9rget to save right after you do that. I kept forgetting to do that for awhile. - The hardware is incredibly sleek and sexy. Plus it just feels very solid. I baby my stuff, but this thing looks like it could take a beating. Check this Youtube out at about :32 in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u38HcVMHZ-M&list=RDgQbQtPeD7NQ&index=10 After all that, there are oodles of tutorials on Youtube. That first thread has a link to one of the guys that has quite a few good ones. Keeping in mind, of course, there are a million ways to do things, his is one. Otherwise, you sound like you're doing pretty good so far.
  7. I'm assuming you mean snapshots not screenshots. You say it's random but not what exactly is random. If it's the same effects that keep turning on and off, it sounds like you have them assigned to the footswitch switch. Check to see if that's the case. There are other possibilities but this is a start.

    Helix update

Try this thread https://line6.com/support/topic/33744-new-helix-purchase-need-help/?tab=comments#comment-257324 If that doesn't work your unit may have issues.
  9. My original post was wrong. and I am now correcting it. Chad does offer a printed vinyl label for sale with essentially the same graphics. See here at the bottom. The graphics are basic and there are slight differences though they are very slight. But they are just basically circles and squares. I personally like the other layout but that's just me.
  10. I thought that's who it might be. He does offer something with the same type of graphics. Different layout but graphics are very close.
  11. You've got to be kidding me. The worlds gone crazy. It's like people are just looking for stuff to be against. What FB group specifically? Is it the Line 6 Helix Group? Which ever one it is I want to make sure to NOT have anything to do with it. That's just pathetic. Pay no attention to them.
  12. This is what I do. In the Global -> Ins/Outs, there is an option called "Volume Knob Controls". You can then set what outputs the volume knob controls. I set it to only control the 1/4" outputs. When you set it that way the XLR's output level will the same as if the Volume Knob was turned all the way up. You can then use the 1/4" outputs for monitoring and control the output of those with the Volume Knob. The knob won't change the XLR ouput level. Regarding Line/Mic out of XLR, yes the Mic setting will be lower...a lot lower. Regarding Line or Instrument level for the 1/4" outputs, the simple explanation is to use Instrument level if you're plugging into anything you would plug your guitar into. Line for anything else and only use the left/mono output if what you're going into has a single input, leaving the right output unplugged. Don't have a cable in it that's just hanging. That is a major oversimplification but should do for now. Regarding all three levels, mic is the lowest, line the highest with instrument level at the lower mid level between the two. Hope this helps.
  13. It becomes your sound card. So, after you make sure you have installed the Helix driver on your computer and hooked it up to your computer via USB, you will then be able to select the Helix as it's sound card/input source.
  14. Thanks for the suggestion but those are more for home studio work and my list is for live use. I should have been more clear on that I guess. Thanks again though.
  15. Studio monitors and especially headphones are two different beasts. And I'm guessing there are a lot of recording equipment websites that do handle that info. I've never had good luck with a patch created with headphones translating to the real world. Again, those are common themes with recording in general so I would explore that. I don't find too many sites exploring the "what to use for a modeler live" area so that's what this is about. Last time I was in Guitar Center there was a headphone listening area so in that regard, I would decide your price and compare them there or somewhere else that has that setup. Bottom line is I would say they are different categories and could be explored in a different thread. I recall a couple of them in this forum awhile ago. Anyway Alto TS312 now included. Thanks.
  16. PC + plus price fixed. JBL was added previously.
  17. I just tried opening a single patch up in notepad. The info is there but would take a while to edit so that it was useful for your purposes.
  18. I'm pretty sure he's right. It will provide power and switch to a specific guitar model but that's it. I'm not even sure if it shows the the user AND factory presets like the HD50o does. If I have time, I'll hook mine up tonight and update this. I have a Variax 500.
  19. I have updated and corrected. Boy, this is turning into more work than I expected. But that's OK. I'll still keep updating for a bit. Thanks for all of your input. I didn't know about the Alto 312. Just more power than the 212 I guess. "I use an Alto TS112. Out of production but works great. I also have a Firehawk 1500 that sounds amazing as an FRFR with Helix." I'm trying not to include products that aren't available anymore but thanks for your input. I'll probably stop updating in a few days but so far this is great. Just wanted to create a basic starting point. I'm going to include a price now too but I'm only going to one place for the prices so YMMV. And no I'm not going to say from where. ;D
  20. Argh. Good call. I will update the list
  21. So I'm stuck here waiting with a lot of time on my hands. I was making this list for myself and realized others may be interested. I looked through some posts and made a list of the FRFR's that people say they are using. I also included a list of 12" speakers people are using to replace their guitar amp/cab speakers that are supposed to have a more flat frequency response. A few people have built their own FRFR's and I didn't include those nor whatever actual guitar amps people are using. As you can see, products websites were included as well. I was surprised by how few showed up in my research which is by no means conclusive and only reflects what I found on this forum. Anyway, here they are. FRFR Mission Gemini 2 $1,499.00 https://missionengineering.com/shop-2/products/amplifier/gemini-2/?v=7516fd43adaa QSC K8-2 $649.99 https://www.qsc.com/live-sound/products/loudspeakers/powered-loudspeakers/qsc-k2-seriestm-new/k82/ Headrush 112 $299.00 http://www.headrushfx.com/products/frfr-112 Alto TS-212 $299.00, TS-310 $249.00, TS-312 $299.00 https://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts210; https://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts212; https://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts310; https://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts312 I wasn't going to include "reviews" but there are a lot of bad reviews for the TS-212. A lot of "I used to use them but got something that sounds better". YMMV. I personally have never tried them. The Headrush 112 and the Alto TS-212, 312 look identical but there is a difference. According to Headrush/Alto - "As mentioned in my previous email, The FRFR 112 is a full range/ flat freq response, ideal for monitoring and does not have any preamp built inside for microphone usage compared to the TS series from alto professional. That would be the difference between the two items." The difference bertween the, 212 and 310,312 is power. The 212 is 1100 watts. 310, 312 are 2000 watts. 22. I wish someone around here had one in store. It sounds very cool if it works but that's a lot of money that I don't have right now. Would love to see if it's worth saving up for.
  23. I seem to remember someone talking about this. I believe the bundle/setlist/patch files are actually text files so if you save anything to your computer, try opening them up with a text file reader. That would be a start. It's been awhile though. I could be wrong.
