Well while we wait for the big upgrade I though I'd see what you JTV Variax users thought about this subject. Helix keeps whatever tuning it was in if the "Variax Custom Tuning" parameter doesn't have "Custom" selected. If it has "Don't Force" selected it keeps whatever tuning the Variax was in for the last patch. That doesn't make sense to me. I wish if it was in "Don't Force" it would automatically go to whatever tuning is programmed into the model in the Variax itself. I think I get why it's that way. If I'm switching patches, I may want to keep the same tuning. But in my opinion, if that's what you want, the patch you switch to should also have that tuning programmed into it. At the very least have a third option of "Model" which would mean it uses the tuning programmed into the Variax. I have the banjo model tuned to a banjo tuning in my Variax. If I switch to a patch with the banjo model in it that has "Don't Force" selected, it keeps it in last tuning it was in from the last patch and doesn't switch to the banjo tuning programmed into the Variax. That pretty much defeats the purpose of having a tuning programmed in any models in the Variax since if it's on "Don't Force" it keeps the tuning it had on the last patch and if I switch it to "Custom" it doesn't use the tuning programmed into the Variax either. Either way, setting up a tuning in your Variax while using the current version of Helix is just a waste of time. I think if you switch patches and then go to a model with a tuning while staying on the patch it should use the Variax model's internal Variax tuning. Otherwise you always have to have "Custom" selected. Which, by the way, is not what it's normalized to. "Don't Force" is the parameter that shows up every time you create a new patch. This makes one more parameter I HAVE to change in EVERY patch. And let's not forget that when you select input in the HD Editor, it starts out on the input parameters tab, which, after I've selected to turn on the noise gate or not, I rarely use again in that patch. What I do change a lot is the Variax model and to a lesser extent, tuning. So there's one more click I HAVE to do EVERY TIME I want to see what a different guitar sound like in a patch. It seems minor but after constantly going back and forth between blocks and then going back to switch Variax model only to find I also gotta click EVERY TIME on the Varaix tab, it get's a little irritating. I guess I need to put these things in idea scale but I never get around to it. Any thoughts or comments?

I thought I was insulting whiners, not moaning. Or was I whining about moaners? Wait...I was moaning about whiners!!!

I much prefer the "well, it looks like it's over now for Helix. Can't wait for Helix II". Those amuse me the most.

Simple question about EQ/Cut parameter priority order
brue58ski replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
That's not what he was asking. He's asking which parameter gets processed first in a block when a signal goes through a single EQ block, the high parameters or the low parameters. -
Why doesn't Helix use the icons for the blocks?
brue58ski replied to StruckingFuggle's topic in Helix
I see the point but if they could Just have the name of the effect would be very helpful. -
Well, now I've seen everything

Do you mean shortly as in soon? Or almost here? Or just around the corner? Or moments away? Or just on the horizon? Or close? Or close but no cigar? Or a whisp of smoke away? Or........

What? There's no tuner??????? I could have swore that..........oh never mind. B)

Why doesn't Helix use the icons for the blocks?
brue58ski replied to StruckingFuggle's topic in Helix
I get the icon choice. But I find myself looking at the screen and wanting to see what's being used in a quick glance. So actually labeling them what they are would help. Or maybe let me label them myself? -
Why doesn't Helix use the icons for the blocks?
brue58ski replied to StruckingFuggle's topic in Helix
I don't necessarily need a separate icon (although that would be cool) for each effect, but it would be nice to know what each block was with one look of the screen, not just what category it's from. Just a little label would help. I have one other quick quibble which I should probably put in a separate post. In HX Edit, when you click on the input icon, the noise gate parameters come up first. Well I have a Variax. Once I've set the noise gate parameters, I mostly adjust the Variax parameters and it's kind of a pain to constantly have to click on the Variax tab instead of it normally being there when you click on input. It's minor, I know, but I'm constantly thinking it as I create patches. -
Damn!! I knew I shouldn't have watched that video. Now I'm jonesing for it.

Ted who? (Just kidding. A major influence on me). The LT retails for $999 so if you're worried, find a Guitar Center or something like that. Don't buy it used at that price!!!! They all generally have a 30 day return policy. So check it our for a month. I'm going to guess, especially after the 2.50 upgrade that's coming, you will be more than happy. So my, "should you buy it", answer is yes but, give it 30 days, maybe it's not your cup of tea. I have a JTV Variax and I love what my Helix and it can do. It is absolutely worth checking out.

Been with Line 6 since the XT and the one thing I always thought the products lacked was really good reverbs. They've been adequate, but not great. I like what I'm hearing now!!! BTW. I think the chrome pedal is one of these. Some kind of special issue perhaps. http://chaseblissaudio.com/product-category/pedals/ As I have looked closer, I'm almost positive it's this one. https://www.themusiczoo.com/products/chase-bliss-tonal-recall-red-knob-mod-analog-delay-effect-pedal

Yes, it is made to be used on the floor. When I say hardware I mean like the physical inputs and outputs. There are more sends and returns, more expression pedal inputs. Just look at a pic of each or their side panel. These could make the patches incompatible. Also the Main Helix has scribble strips so you can have names below the buttons. Stuff like that. But overall they are almost exactly the same.

Pickup Specs on the JTV 89 F
brue58ski replied to Sumatra_Gold's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Check this out. It may help https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=16980.0 -
The Helix will change: The Model The Tuning The pickup (It changes this along with the model. The models are tied to the pickups. So whatever pickup the model has is what you will get. Example: SPANK 1 is a Strat with the bridge pickup, SPANK 4 is a Strat with the neck pickup.) The tone knob The volume knob And you can lock any combination or all of the knobs. You can also assign either the volume or tone knob to a parameter. So you could assign the tone knob to a delay's delay time and adjust it on the fly from your guitar. So it will do all you describe and more. I think that's everything.

I don't know if you saw this as I stated it before but I hit the note and then let it ring for about 1-3 seconds and then hit it again. Occasionally letting it ring out longer. That seems to work for my style of playing. I used to use 11's all the time but age, which brought a touch of arthritis, forced me to go back to the 10's I used decades ago.

When going between different setlists, it replaces it. You lose the one that was in the slot. When you are in the same setlist, it moves all of the other presets down one slot.
-
I haven't played with the looper very much at all so I don't know but wouldn't putting the looper in parallel with the guitar signal solve this problem?
-
I don't know about the unit itself but if you right click on the preset's name in HX Edit, you can COPY the preset, move to the setlist you want, right click where you want it and there will be a PASTE option.
