  1. @digital Igloo, I notice that the instructions always seem to include the steps to reset the global settings. Is this necessary to load in the updated programming changes? I reset my global settings with this update and I reset my global EQ settings. DUH! Stupid me didn't write down my settings so I had to try to set my global EQ from memory. I'm sad to say this is not the first time I did this. I think I will write down my EQ settings because I know the next time I will do the exact same thing. Just wondering if resetting the global settings is absolutely necessary.
  2. If I understand what you are trying to do, you can do this by right clicking on the slider and then typing in the value you want.
  3. How are you seeing presets in Axe Edit without a device being connected? I just downloaded the latest axe editor ( version 3.6.1) and I can't get it to load a preset without a device. Are you running a different version? I'm not questioning that you are doing it. I'm just trying to find out how you are loading presets.
  4. I agree. This drove me crazy until I figured this out.
  5. I am on 1.06.5 and I have done the globals reset and I have also seen this problem. In fact, just happened again to me saving a preset last night. It doesn't seem to really do anything bad though. I am connected to my computer although the Helix editor was not open at the time. Not sure if being connected to the computer has anything to do with it. I haven't checked to see if the extra characters go away if I turn the Helix off and back on. I'll try that tonight when I get home. Edit--I turned the Helix off and back on and the preset was named correctly without the additional characters.
  6. I have had the same problem on every Helix update I have done. It takes 2-3 attempts to update. I have never had the 1st update attempt work. The strange thing is I am running Windows 10. I seem to be the only one running 10 that has had a problem. It makes me sweat a little bit every time I do an update. :(
  7. You say that you are sending your sound guys a signal through both XLR outputs which should be stereo. Maybe you've already checked this, but my first thought would be to check with the sound person and make sure they have your two channels panned left and right. If they are in the center, then the house speakers would be getting basically a mono signal which would not be as spacious as a stereo signal.
  8. Although I do want an editor program too, I have no problem at all editing patches directly on the helix. If a block is too far away from where I am on the screen, I touch an assigned footswitch to a block that is closer and use the joystick to go the rest of the way to the block. I did have a problem turning the joystick while I was moving around at first, but I rarely turn it by accident now. I really am not into editing with my feet setting up presets, although this could be useful if you want to make a simple adjustment on the fly. I simply put the helix on a small table (or whatever is available) to raise it up to an adequate height so I don't have to bend down. Again, I agree with you about wanting an editor, but I don't see the big issue with editing directly on the Helix. You say it's a pain, I say it's pretty easy. Guess we just have different opinions. ;)
  9. Strange, I use Windows 10 (installed Windows 7 helix software since there was no Win 10 software available) and I have had no problems backing up any of my bundles, setlists, or presets. I back up almost daily since I am still tweaking presets.

    Crank it up!

I have had good results going from creating patches with the Helix at home with headphones and using them live through FOH. This was difficult with the HD500. One thing I did do different from the 500 was I used some of the forum tips to adjust the low cut and high cut cabinet filters. Adjusting these parameters helped me set better in the mix. The high cut especially was helpful to tame some of the harshness/brittleness I was getting live.
  11. The Line 6 editor is the program that you use to backup your preset info to your computer. You need to go to the download section and download the Line 6 Updater program. This is the program you use to update the Helix.
  12. Not sure if this is a bug or the way it is designed. I have an expression pedal plugged into pedal #2 input. I named Expression Pedal 1 Volume Pedal and saved the preset. The name changes on the expression pedal scribble strip. If I go to another patch and come back to that patch, the name has changed back to EXP 1. If I go into Command Center and try to customize the toe switch again, it still says Volume Pedal in the command center. If I push ok again, the name changes back to Volume Pedal. Is this designed like this or should my toe switch name keep its saved state like the other pedal switches?

    Lead boost

Glad you found something that worked for you. I am puzzled that the gain block couldn't give you enough boost. I don't have the unit in front of me right now, but I thought the gain block could add up to 12db ? of gain. I normally only have it set on about 3db.Then again, that is another block you can do without by using another method. I use a gain block because I can move it around my signal chain and see what sounds the best, but we all have different needs. Hope you enjoy the Helix as much as I do.

    Lead boost

If you just want a volume boost without changing any eq settings, you could also add a Gain Block near the end of your signal chain. There are a lot of different options.
  15. I'm not the op, but this tip helped me last night. Although everything sounded good at home, when I plugged straight into the mixer at rehearsal, everything sounded harsh. Then I remembered this tip, made the change and everything sounded good again. Thanks DI.
  16. I agree the helix cabs I've used really sound good. I did put an ownhammer IR in a parallel path with the helix cab and to me it does provide more clarity to the tone. I am loving the sounds I am getting out of the helix. I could very well be satisfied with just the helix cab, but the IR option is just icing on the cake for me.
  17. Did you install the Windows 7 app on your machine. I have windows 10 and I used the windows 7 app since there is no 10 version. I have been using this with no problems. I think it depends on the machine though.
  18. I am running the Windows 7 app on my Windows 10 machine. I have been able to make backups and import ir's with it. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
  19. Not really a question, but it looks like the guitar input under the global settings defaults to 1M. I would have thought it would default to Auto. This is certainly not a problem, but I just thought this was strange for the default.
  20. What range pot does an external expression pedal need to be? I think the HD 500 needed a 10K pot. Can you use a 250K pot such as the Ernie Ball volume pedal uses? Update on my own question. Yes, my Ernie Ball Jr. pedal with a 250k pot works great. No manual calibration needed. I continue to be amazed by the many different functions built into the Helix.
  21. I'm not sure, but I think anytime that you do an update, Line 6 recommends a factory reset (just be sure to save any patches that you don't want to lose). I seem to remember having to do the same thing on my HD500 updates. Edit-It looks like Line 6 says the factory reset is an option, but I always did a reset after updating my 500. Never had a problem with updates. Just my 2 cents.
  22. Actually, I liked hearing this type of video. Kind of the same type of things I'll do when I get mine. I'm sure there will be plenty of videos showing what the box can do when everyone gets theirs and uses it for a while. For Pete's sake, the guy just got the thing and had no prior experience in doing anything with it. Edit: Chad, I thought you did a great job.
  23. It could be the parameter pots getting dirty or worn. In the past, I have noticed different parameters sometimes were changing by themselves on my 500. I now keep all of my knob settings on zero while I am performing and have not had a problem since. I had this same issue with my M13.
