Burning calories on this is comical, is what it is...who bloody cares if the save button is a pink polka dot, or the googly-eyed $h*t-pile emoji? Does it work? Yes. Next....

Wake me when there's a legitimate gripe to whine about....

Seems odd. Workbench HD works fine on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra...can't speak to the other edit software.

My point is that people say lots of things. Some it's true, and some of it isn't...and show business, is show business. But even knowing the truth whatever it is, won't help you decide if modeling will appeal to you or not. Nor would it help you determine if your concert experience would have been different, had he used something else. It either sounds good out front, or it doesn't. To an audience, and in experienced hands, today's modelers are nearly indistinguishable from the "real thing". And increasingly they're fooling even the most "golden eared" engineers and producers in the business. But none of that means that you'll like playing through one.... some guys just don't warm up to them. As previously stated, it's not an amp, and can't be treated like one. But once you become familiar with how they work, and figure out how to coax the sound(s) your looking for from it, the versatility, consistency, and portability are priceless. But if you only want one or two sounds, and it's never gonna leave the house...then buy whatever amp and pedals give you that sound, and call it a day. Everybody's needs are different.

I agree with most of what's already been said... but this is really an unanswerable question. And there's honestly no way to tell what you were actually hearing at the show, without a behind the scenes walkthrough with his sound guy. Half the time what you see on stage are dummy amps doing absolutely nothing, while out of sight a modeler or some other mic-ed amp is fed to the PA. Guys with endorsements coming out of their ears have to be seen "using" certain gear, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's what you're hearing...

JBL LSR305's, or the 308's if you want to go a little bigger... just depends on how much room you've got.

Lol... never trust a man who doesn't comprehend sarcasm. ;)

2.6 update. Why are their 3 different sized downloads?

You're entering a realm beyond sight and sound....;) -
It's definitely a conspiracy...not sure who's behind it or what the end game is, but strange things are afoot. Trust no one... ;)
-
Agreed... but we should all enjoy it while it lasts. Nothing's free forever. Eventually there'll be a new "flagship" device, and anything new developed for Helix will come at a price....if I were to guess, I'd say it's still probably a couple, maybe three years away at this point, but the day is coming.

Well this is opposite the usual problem...it's odd that the fizzy high end is coming from your stage amp and not the FRFR PA speakers, which is the typical gripe. Regardless, you're always gonna have trouble trying to run the same patch through two very different kinds of speakers. No matter what you do with individual settings, the disparate frequency responses of a guitar amp vs. a PA speaker will always be there coloring the sound in very different ways. You could rework all your patches to have to parallel paths, one EQed for the PA and the other for your amp...but the path of least resistance will be getting some sort of FRFR speaker solution for a stage monitor. That way the tone going to FOH should be essentially the same as the what you're hearing on stage.

Thanks man!

Cool... anything that gets you playing is a good thing. Thanks for the compliment!

Thank you, sir! My own experience with Customtone is...well let's just say it has left just about everything to be desired, lol. Almost nothing that I've downloaded had been even close to useable, and the descriptions vs. what you actually hear are so far off most of the time, that I don't even bother anymore.... just too many variables. That's why I've never bothered to post any of my own, as I figure it'll be just about the same for somebody else one their end... but I'll try and throw those up shortly. Gonna be out of town for a couple of days though...
-
I really don't think that tone sounds all that bad...but you're the one who has to spend time with it, lol. What don't you like about it? Anyway, here's a couple of things...two very different styles, but all the guitars are Helix. Files were too big to dump in here directly, so I threw them up on soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/user-100603322/here-goes-nuthin-final-edit https://soundcloud.com/user-100603322/this-really-needs-a-title

I made no claims about "mastering" anything. There's always something else to learn. I said I learned how to get what I wanted from it.... but we're all in the same boat the day we open the box. It took several weeks before I was happy with the results. I'm happy to upload some tones if you like, but it'll have to be later this evening when I get home. I have a few things on my phone, but it won't allow me to attach anything for some reason.... crappy phone and/or browser I guess. I'll do it from my laptop later. Whether or not you'll judge it to be "great" tone, is anybody's guess.... as I really have no idea exactly what it is you wish to achieve.
-
And it can. But it won't happen magically, or without effort.... which seems to be what you want. Most things dont work that way. If that's what you're holding out for in terms of a firmware update, you might as well sell it now and go back to a tube amp. Ultimately, you've got two choices: 1) Continue to blame the device because it wasn't designed the way you think it should have been. or 2) Learn how to use it, as the rest of us did. As shown by the myriad threads on this topic, most (if not all) users who are now perfectly happy with Helix, did not achieve tonal nirvana just by turning it on.
-
The problem is not the device, it's your expectations. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's the truth. It's not an amp... if you try and treat it like one, you will be disappointed with the results. Modeling takes some getting used to...
-
You will probably remain disappointed on that front. If you stick your head right up to your favorite amp, you'll hear plenty of unwanted high end fizz from that, too...but once you're listening several feet away and way off-axis, it disappears. Good or bad, that is exactly what's being captured in the modeling process: a close mic-ed cabinet, warts and all. Pump that through FRFR speakers and you're gonna have some unwanted frequencies.... much the same as you would mic-ing a cabinet in the studio. It is what it is. The necessity for low and high cuts isn't going away anytime soon.

We can "consider" anything and everything until the cows come home, and we'll never leave square one. Legal, moral, ethical reasons...or maybe they're just really superstitious and think it's "bad juju". My point is, who cares? They ain't talkin'... the reason(s), whatever they may be, are wholly irrelevant.
-
I will preface this by saying that the following is not a criticism... it's just the way it is: L6 has a long and glorious history of refusing to divulge the time of day, much less future products, or plans for existing products. They play everything close to the vest...whether that's good or bad is relative, and largely dependent on how impatient you are. Personally, I couldn't care less. Stuff comes when it comes...and no amount of hand wringing, lamenting, whining, or guessing will change the arrival date, or what's in the package when it gets here. Like all companies interested in turning a profit, their decisions are made by what they judge to be good for business... and their track record clearly demonstrates that they've decided that keeping their mouths shut most of the time, is the way to go. When something's ready, it gets released. Prior build-up and hint-dropping are few and far between.
-
Already discussed? lol...it never ends. One of these threads pops up, or an old one is resurrected, every 11 minutes or so (every 7 minutes the month before NAMM happens)...inviting days to weeks of 100% evidence-free speculation and blind guessing. Not to mention the obligatory moaning that the previous update still didn't include a voucher for a cappuccino machine or panini press... Time to get cracking folks! Wish lists to the right, and whining about what should have been included in the last update to the left. No shoving in line...;)
-
It surprises me a little... as one of the selling points for this thing is "flat mode", which allegedly covers a frequency range of 70Hz-20KHz, according to the provided specs. That *should* be sufficient for a decent acoustic tone. If not, then this thing would do me no good...too bad. I had been thinking about picking one up. Guess I'm sticking with the L2T...

I like a challenge...;)

No, no, no... he must face north while singing "Fly Me To The Moon", and juggling 3 live chipmunks. ;)
