  1. This is just a guess of course, but the only thing you're likely to get for your trouble is the declaration that your carefully crafted patch sounds nothing like the original recording...
  2. Ugh..."Roxanne" is worse than the "1-877-CARS-4-KIDS" commercial. The CIA shouldn't need water-boarding. Just play that awful song endlessly. It'll break anybody...;)
  3. Lmao...what no "Satan's Overdrive" pedal? Personally, I find this patch works best with this awesome sample I found of "Marching to Pretoria" played on a mouth harp and kazzoo, endlessly looping in the background...;)
  4. And even if it were the best thing since indoor plumbing, with Apple and Microsoft owning the market, getting any traction would be basically impossible anyway. Go ahead and invent an engine that runs on tap water...as long as there's still oil to pull out of the ground, you'll get nowhere.
  5. 99.97% of the time, it's not about the mag pickups creeping into the signal (though this is an option that can be turned on in Workbench, so make sure it's off). It's a WHOLE LOT easier than you think to hear the guitar acoustically, even with headphones on (especially if your cans are open-back). When using an alt tuning, this will sound atrocious. You'll think both tones are coming through the headphones, but most likely not. Thought my JTV was busted initially too...almost 4 years hence, I still get fooled occasionally if I'm not turned up loud enough to drown out the guitar itself. Most of my playing at home is through headphones. Easily solved by turning up a bit...crank it!
  6. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if you have one patch, or 100. If it works for you, then all is well. Personally, I have 4 basic patches that get used regularly, which are all duplicated and slightly tweaked for use with different guitars: 1) Clean 2) Edge of breakup, 3) Medium-gain rhythm tone 4) Lead ...Plus an acoustic patch for my Variax. Various FX toggled on and off as necessary, though it's mostly reverbs and delays, a little chorus on the cleans...with occasional song-specific FX. I play in a cover band that does everything from Mellencamp to Metallica, but my days of crafting a separate patch for every tune in our repertoire are over...too much work, too much tap-dancing on stage, and the Friday night drunks will never know the difference anyway. God forbid you deviate from the set list...then you're combing through bank after bank of patches because somebody requested "Only The Good Die Young", and it wasn't all cued up ahead of time. No thanks. And frankly, if you've been at this long enough, with the basic tones listed above you can play just about any tune under the sun.
  7. If your only gripe about the 69 is the neck (as it is for many of us), look into a replacement. Warmoth has numerous options to choose from as far as radius, profile, and nut width are concerned, which all contribute significantly to playability/comfort level...and it'll cost you a hell of a lot less than an 89. As for access to the higher frets, I actually find the angled heel on the 69 much easier to navigate than a Strat...not sure what it's like on an 89. Never played one.
  8. I have been amongst and around guitars and music theory, including the teaching thereof, for more than 2/3 of my life...and I haven't the faintest idea what this means.
  9. Never golfed a day in my life, but I will take your word for it. ;)
  10. A 3 1/2 year old resurrected thread...about t-shirts. I have now officially seen everything.
  11. Buying pickups is an act of faith. Doesn't much matter what the ad copy says they're supposed to sound like. No way to know whether you'll like them until you put them in the guitar...and even then, you need to sit with them for a while to reach any real consensus. Plus, because the process itself is such a pain in the arse, even if you know what you're doing (soldering, routing, etc), I think we're basically all predisposed to being initially pleased with the results, rather than immediately concede that we just wasted a bunch of time and money. 6 months later, all bets are off. That being said, I do like my new Kinman "blues set" single coils that I got for Christmas...let's see if I'm still saying that at my July 4th BBQ. 😜
  12. The general idea of longer scale length guitars is to accommodate heavier strings and tunings that only whales can hear. ;)
  13. That head has no FX loop, so you're stuck plugging the POD straight into the front of the amp. Chaining two modelers together will not work well. You need a power amp.
  14. Sorry I missed this last night. I was playing Spy Hunter on my Apple IIC...
  15. Well it may not be ideal, but it most definitely works. Did it an hour ago, just to make sure I wasn't nuts.
  16. Well apparently it's not technically a L6 product...seems they've just licensed out the guts. Probably have to ask the folks at Shuriken. But I'll go out on a limb and say, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ;) Just kidding. I sympathize with your plight, but I don't think you'll see a lefty Variax anytime soon, no matter who's building it. 27" scale length and lefty? They'll never sell enough for it to be cost effective. The righty's will be a tough sell as it is.
  17. I've got an awesome rotary phone for sale...it's beige, weighs about 17 lbs, and could probably stop a bullet. Who's interested? ;)
  18. Never messed with S/PDIF connections, so I can't help you much there. I run both 1/4 outs from the POD into the Focusrite, and USB out of the interface to the computer. You could also just run USB out of the POD straight to your computer, and just use the Focusrite for your monitors. Some guys will tell you it's better this way, as there's one less D/A conversion. I've set it up both ways, and frankly, I don't think I could tell the difference if you paid me. As for Focusrite and Reaper, I know of no specific issues. The interface should be a fairly benign device. Aside from A/D and D/A conversions, it's not really "doing" much except routing signals around.
  19. Active speakers are already powered...you don't need, nor would you want, a separate power amp. You'll destroy the speakers that way.
  20. That is odd...usually it's the modeling that craps out. Are you using the VDI connection, or the 1/4" and using the battery? The mags should function like any other guitar on earth, even without the battery. What happens if you just plug in with a 1/4" cable, without the battery in the guitar?
  21. Thank you for so clearly elucidating what I was trying to say...don't think I was ever going to get that point across. ;)
  22. Look into the Focusrite 2i4 interface. It's reasonably priced (~$180, give or take), and it comes with a number of DAW plug-ins that are quite good...reverbs, compressors, delays, etc. Very easy to set up, works well with the POD. Been using it for couple of years now, no latency issues. And it will solve the problem of what to do with your monitors.
  23. Lmao... And I have to admit, I'm surprised at the price...I thought it would be more than that. Either way, it's just not my cup of tea. Reverse headstocks always looked odd to me, and the inverted fret markers doubly so...just looks like they stuck a lefty neck on a righty body. I must be getting old...;)
  24. Amen. "The masses" will not be seeking this one out. You can get anybody to buy a Strat or LP clone... If you ask me, a Tele-ish Variax would make more sense. There are Tele fans everywhere, and they were left out of the JTV generation (yes, I know there's a Tele model in the software...I mean the external aesthetics).
