  1. Links don't work for me, so it's hard to guess without hearing the clips. What I do know is, most if not all of my live patches are useless for direct recording. Getting gtrs to sit well in a mix, vs. on stage are very different sets of circumstances. A tone that's dialed in for use at stage volume is likely to sound different through studio monitors or headphones, unless you're really cranking it...and even then you can still have issues. I usually find that a solid rhythm tone patch at stage volume is usually lacking in low-mids if I try and use it in a mix with drums and bass. There's definitely an art to it...learning when and where to use EQ, compression, etc is tricky.
  2. Don't say stuff like that out loud, man. ;)...these guitars can suddenly get weird if the wind changes direction.
  3. To the OP: You mentioned using a 1.14mm pick. That's about as thin as it gets. If it's also real pointy, like a Jazz III, this is likely giving you a sharper attack. You might try something a bit thicker, and with a more rounded bevel, or a softer material. At this point, there are picks made from every conceivable substance...search the interwebs long enough, and you'll find one made from unicorn hide and dodo feathers. Never know what you'll end up liking. I can't get enough of these things: https://stoneworkspicks.com/
  4. First runner-up for Post of the Day, lol. Personally, I'll take a good laugh over an extra 160 amp models. ;) Rave on, folks!
  5. Lmao! Post of the Day!!!! ;)
  6. And an apology...after all, that extra one should have been there in the first place. ;)
  7. I never said you were complaining. I was agreeing with you. It's a valid question. 300 ohms seems like overkill to me. The higher impedence cans are often touted as "necessary" for this kind of gear. I was merely pointing out that it's not necessarily the case. What you've got is ideal, as far as I'm concerned.
  8. Let me save you the suspense...a grand total of NOTHING will be divulged until there's a press release, which may or may not occur before the doors open on Day 1. Same as always... We now return you to your regularly scheduled wild speculation, wishful thinking, and the inevitable bemoaning of whatever announcement(s) are actually forthcoming. ;)
  9. My AKG's are 55 ohms, and they won't start to clip until I drive the volume up to the point where it's uncomfortable to listen anyway, so I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The same cans are a little anemic for listening to music from a phone or tablet, however. But for playing/recording/mixing through a Focusrite interface, I'm rarely turning the volume past 11 or 12 o'clock, and there's still plenty of headroom left before it starts to clip. Don't know why anyone would need ultra high-impedence headphones, unless you're using a dedicated, high output headphone amp.
  10. Don't think there's a bundle anywhere. Back up your patches and do the factory reset if you really want them back. Don't know what you'd do with them anyway, though. They're all f$!#/!g awful....unless you need a reminder of what NOT to sound like. I say good riddance.
  11. Yup. Assign the channel volumes for each amp to the expression pedal. Toe down for amp A, heel down for amp B. No tap dancing required.
  12. No they're not. What they are is a tiny niche product with a minescule market share, in a industry overflowing with options in every imaginable shape and color in the rainbow. They ain't running 3 shifts at the factory to try and stave off a rioting mob of Variax seekers. Nor will there be unscrupulous retailers engaging in price wars. They're making them in small batches, then waiting for more orders. Most guitar players have no idea that they even exist. I have have never seen one hanging on the wall at a music store, and I live within 10 miles of 3 huge music retailers, all L6 dealers. You can't find any because most places don't want to stock them. They sit around. Guys are still buying "new" JTV's, with serial numbers that date them back to 2012 and 2013. It's not a knock...I like mine. It gets a lot of use, but it is what it is. There just isn't a huge audience for these things.
  13. There's really no way to answer any of those questions. A number of things will contribute to it to some extent, but pick attack is mostly player-dependent. If it's really popping out at you, you just have to poke at settings until you find what dials it back best for you. There won't be a magic bullet as far as settings are concerned. Just because something works for me, doesn't mean it will for you.
  14. Lotsa good cans out there, but I love AKG...been using the K240S for years. Almost impossible to do better for the money.
  15. Whining required more effort ;). You actually had to seek out an audience. Now the nameless/faceless masses are accessible 24/7, and any one of the 17 devices we're all constantly staring at will alert them to your every utterance. Hell, now you can just mutter your gripes into a text-to-speech app, and instantly broadcast to the masses. Actually putting pen to paper burns calories. Who wants that? Tweet, Tweet, Like, Like!! Ugh. Ugh. ;)
  16. When you hit "save" once on the POD, it prompts you to select the location where the patch will be stored. With the first 2 control knobs below the display, you can select a slot in a different set list, or another slot within the same set list. Hit "save" a second time and it's done. Just know that you're copying from one slot to another, and over-writing the patch that had been stored in the new destination...unless it was an empty slot.
  17. Let's re-hash the same discussion just a few thousand more times. Because this time, L6 is sure to have some sort of epiphany, and immediately ramp up the pace of product development to satisfy the farcical notions of everyone with an internet connection who thinks that they "know" exactly what could/would/should be possible. Ugh...
  18. "Here's the pollen count....1,2,3,4,5" ;)
  19. For some, the "more/bigger = better" mindset is forever tattooed on their psyche. Collectively, we've "super-sized" ourselves into believing that this is gospel. Advertising works, and it works well. This particular view of the world, be it good, bad, or indifferent, ain't going anywhere. Use what you like...whatever inspires you to play. If being able to say "mine is bigger than yours" does something for ya, then have at it. If ya got it, flaunt it! Personally, just the thought of having to comb through 200 amp models to find "that tone", gives me a migraine. I get less playing time than I'd like as it is. Not gonna spend it all twisting knobs, saying "Nope, not this one...next". But that's just me...ymmv. Mine goes to 11...it's one louder, isn't it? ;)
  20. Lol...gotta love Carlin. Many moons ago my old man gave me 2 or 3 of his albums (on vinyl), when he decided I was old enough to hear the "seven deadly words". Still have 'em. Good stuff. ;)
  21. I don't get it either. Especially those hell-bent on the 4CM, and some tube amp that they adore, who then proceed to ignore the modeling altogether and just use it for a little delay and reverb. If you love your amp, great...more power to you. Get a couple of nice pedals and be done with it. Why spend money on something to only use 10% of what it can do?
  22. Then it's time for a PM, and some good old fashioned begging...;)
  23. Do you drive without a spare tire? I don't care what kind of rig you've got, gigging without SOMETHING as a backup will eventually bite you in the a$$. Everything craps out sooner or later...and it's amazing how often it happens 5 minutes before showtime, especially with units this complicated. I once had a power amp start to smoke and nearly catch fire at soundcheck, MIDI controllers either mysteriously cease to function at all, or at least 1 or 2 foot switches stop responding mid-set...that's happened more than once over the years. What can you expect to get for the your 500X anyway, $200 maybe? Not worth it, imho...
  24. It's redundant. Amplifi is already a modeler. It's like stuffing a golf cart into the cab of a monster truck, then wondering why it's difficult to drive. Just get a decent FRFR speaker and you will be golden. Don't need to spend a fortune. The Alto's that are talked about sounds here so often are only a couple of hundred bucks, and a lot of guys are very happy with the results.
  25. "Good" is gonna be difficult to achieve unless you get yourself another Alto. A stereo mix is exactly that...
