Over time? If we're measuring in geologic epochs, perhaps. Those coatings are 2 or 3 microns thick. You'd need 612 lifetimes of string changes just to accumulate enough residue to be visible to the naked eye...Dust floating around the average room will accumulate a visible layer of crap after a day or two, and is more of an obstacle than coated string detritus will ever be.

What is the best beer in the world? Or Scotch, frozen sausage, or orange juice? There's no way to answer these questions. There are many brands and gauges of strings to choose from, and it's 100% personal preference. Any electric set will work, just depends on what you're comfortable with. The ONLY constant for everybody (which has already been said) is that if you switch to a different gauge, you need a set-up to adjust for the change in string tension.

Amen. Customtone is a great idea, but the reality is less than inspiring. I've tried probably 150 patches, maybe more...exactly one made it into regular use. Not a good enough ratio to bother with...just takes too long to audition them all. Plus, you'll never really learn anything about the device that way.

The FX loop is noisy...not much can be done about it. It's a common gripe, but unfortunately its just the nature of the beast.

My old college roommate's bother-in-law, (who once successfully strummed a G chord, so you know he's an 'insider') says that the marketing team is still arguing over the graphic for the box...might not ship up until St. Patrick's Day now.

Why even bother? He's already decided that everyone is too dim to understand his "simple question". If it's that easy, let him figure it out himself. Indignance is my favorite personality trait...

You're not alone. I've found using just to pre's to have all the appeal of a rusty chainsaw rattling around inside an empty oil drum. I'm now running FRFR, but for the first year and a half or so with the POD, I was going into a tube power amp and a 4x12. Couldn't make the pre-amp only models usable no matter what I tried...but the full models with the right mic choice sounded great. Switching to FRFR required quite a bit of re-working the patches, but I'm very happy with the results.

Judging by the incessant cries of "when, when, when? !?!?!", and blind guessing based on little more than promises from some retailer (which are generally worthless), I'm not sure that's possible. My 6 year old is less impatient on Christmas Eve...

LMAO...let the games begin!!!

There's nothing about the Amplifi that Helix isn't gonna do better. Powering one modeler with another is like stuffing a golf cart into the cab of a monster truck. It's redundant, and most of the features of one of the two devices will go unused. Plus, you may not plan on gigging or jamming with anyone else now, but you never know. Imho, the money would be better spent on a good FRFR powered speaker, and you will be good to go for any situation, be it in the living room or on stage.

I didn't. I've never lined up months in advance to buy anything. Early adopter hysteria isn't my thing. The constant speculation and endless pining over a device that no one has actually played is fascinating, though... ;)

I'm struggling to understand this explanation. If an awful noise from one string can be moved around at will to other strings by swapping wires, them how can the issue be anything but electronic? A mechanical noise fouling up the modeling has to have a point of origin. And wherever that point is, I don't see how it could possibly be moving around...and if it is, it's a hell of a coincidence that you can dictate which string will sound awful just by swapping wires.

Well I don't know, but if lesser devices are anything to go by, I'm gonna go ahead and say, "more than you'll ever need".

Might be worth re-flashing the firmware. When in doubt, reboot....

+1...Those ear buds reduce the best recordings in the world to garbage. They're even more useless for an application like this. You need good headphones, with as flat a frequency response as you can find for building your patches. Also, unless the amp your waiting on is FRFR, don't expect any patches created with headphones to sound even remotely similar when you run them through the amp. Even in studio/direct mode with full amp models, headphones and a traditional guitar amp are completely different species. You will end up needing much more than "just a little tweaking" between the two. On the other hand, the tone of any given patch through an FRFR rig vs. a good pair of flat response headphones should be much closer, and require considerably less tweaking between them. It's just the nature of the beast...

The powers that be wouldn't commit to a release date the first thousand times the question was asked. Smart money says you're not gonna get an answer this time either. On the plus side, if you keep asking once a day, eventually someone will chime in with, "I got mine today". Then we'll all know they've started shipping.

You are entirely correct...but it's a tough concept to sell in an instant gratification society. Wildly unrealistic demands and expectations are the new "normal".

HELP -- JTV59 wont "turn on"
cruisinon2 replied to lwilliams's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Amen on the batteries...don't want them anywhere. In a guitar, pedal, doesn't matter. Always a pain in the arse. Carrying a crate of 9 volts around because any one of 14 pedals might crap out at any moment is not my idea of fun. -
Will you update this unit with new models and effect at no cost?
cruisinon2 replied to josephyballew's topic in Helix
The thing isn't even released yet, and already we're gonna start the hand-wringing over what may or may not happen with updates 2 years from now? How is it fun to live like that? For God's sake, THEY don't even know yet. Buy it (or not), play it, enjoy it...life is hard enough. And no matter how nicely you ask, they're not gonna read you the minutes from the last product development meeting anyway... -
This thing fits nicely into one of my favorite philosophies: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, lol. $5k or $6k for a piece of metal? "No wood, no fretboard"...no thanks.

Well if this is true, it's the most telling bit of information. They can't very well blame a mechanical issue if the defect can be made to hop from one string to another simply by switching wires on the circuit board. There's no way a mechanical vibration can just bounce locations like that. If E6 vibrates funny, then E6 vibrates funny. You can't transfer the origin of the offending frequency by moving wires around. Anyone?
