  1. I'm still aggravated that L6 isn't paying my health insurance premiums...what nerve. :D
  2. Amen. I play 11's, and can recall breaking exactly one string in the last decade or so...and yes, I play daily and bend a lot. Also does wonders for tuning stability. I think this is a HUGE variable that many players overlook. Big strings = big tone (yeah, yeah Billy Gibbons supposedly plays on 7's...personally I don't buy it, but whatever, maybe he does. There's an exception to every rule). Lotsa guys ignore the heavier guages, I suspect mostly because they assume that they'll have difficulty bending strings. But if you work your way up, you'll adjust, and hand strength will increase...it's just like going to the gym (or so I'm told, never actually seen one in person... :P ). Just don't try jumping from 9's to 11's...
  3. Of course...it's called "having a functional guitar". The strings should never, under any circumstances be falling off the fretboard under normal use. Yes, sloppy playing can cause it, but I suspect that for most who had/have that problem, they probably aren't consistently falling off the edge of every other guitar they own. The JTVs that had that problem either had an improperly cut nut, or poorly dressed frets...or both. That's why they had to address the specs...
  4. New EQs will be in femto-parsecs....
  5. Well that settles it. I'm getting a Kemper as soon as I win the lottery...and an AxeFx, and a really nice PRS, just cause I'm a Rush fan and I've always wanted one, and a Mustang (and not the crappy 6 cylinder version either), and a pony, and one of those absurdly priced, concave 4K TVs, and a wine cellar (rich folks have those, right?). And if there's anything left, I'll pay some bills...
  6. I hadn't thought of that, and it probably will work for limited use at bedroom volumes. Personally, I'd be hesitant to run it like that for any length of time at stage volume. I certainly wouldn't gig with it set up like that, as that input wasn't designed for that kind of use. Who knows, you might get away with it for years, but in my experience, the "duct-tape and happy thoughts" method of gluing two pieces of gear together that weren't supposed to be mated, doesn't pan out in the long run, lol. He needs a power amp...that head is really designed to be a stand alone unit.
  7. +1...nice amp. Still use it with a Marshall 4x12 and the POD when the mood strikes. Actually daily now, until I get my L2T back...
  8. Clearly the only way out of this is with a steel-cage match... Or...everybody drop your pants, and I'll get the tape measure. We'll settle this once and for all...
  9. Running from the POD straight into the front end of an amp...any amp...is always going to be a problem, because you are daisy-chaining two pre-amps together. It will be difficult at best to get any kind of decent sound this way. Your only real option is to try the POD's various output modes and see what sounds best to you, but understand that you may find it extraordinarily difficult to dial in any usable tones this way, depending on what kind of sound you're looking for. Even if you do find a sound(s) you like, chaining them together like this will create a lot of extra noise in the signal that is likely to drive you up the wall. These units were not meant to be paired together. You will have a much easier time getting a dedicated power amp to drive your cabinet. If you want to get up and running with minimal extra cost, you could try a small power amp like this: http://www.ehx.com/products/44-magnum It's just about the least expensive power amp you're gonna find...and certainly the smallest, lol. I've never used one, so I have no idea how it sounds, or how loud it can actually get, but they're out there...somebody's using them.
  10. Oh yeah...when I had multiple rack pieces back in the day I always ran a Furman Power Conditioner in front of everything else. Nothing ever happened, but at least that should have been the only thing in the rig to get fried if there was a good enough power spike. Might hafta go back to that live...
  11. Important safety tip: don't stand out in the rain and play your JTV... :P
  12. Oh, of course....just goofin' ;). Although I don't do it as often as I should. Come to think of it, I think that's first on the agenda for tonite.
  13. If I accidentally wiped my POD, I'd seriously consider taking up the bassoon...WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time invested getting it to sound good, lol. I shudder at the idea of starting from scratch.
  14. At this point, it's impossible to tell one way or the other if it's worth the price. I'll know when I try them out. Until they're released, we're all just guessing blindly...But considering that I gambled $500 on the POD to begin with (and another $1000 on a JTV...nobody stocks them around here), another $50-$100 is hardly worth getting in a twist over.
  15. That will be the next generation of auto-tune. Just type in the lyrics, and pick a key signature. "Effects" will include the ability to select inflections specific to the genre, gospel, jazz, pop...whatever. We'll call it the GagaSpears Vocal Simulator... :P
  16. Not necessarily. I'd rather have a $40 ukulele than some of the $5000 guitars I've seen. Was just thumbing thru a catalog the other day and saw that Gibson is peddling a LP built from specs derived from a 3D scan of one of Les Paul's own personal guitars...and they're getting TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for it. No one will ever convince me that there is anything about that axe that is any different from the $2K versions they've been hawking for years...except that the guy who buys it gets to go around telling everybody "this was made from a 3D scan of Les Paul's personal axe, man!!! Can't you hear it?!?!?!?". Just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it's "better". Half the time, what you're really buying is a "look at me!!!!" moment.
  17. If it comes and goes, it smells like a bug in the software somewhere.
  18. Even at the current exchange rate, that price is a steal for a US model. The list price is about $3800.
  19. As long as digital me can be a bit taller, it's all good...
  20. This is kinda cool... http://www.sun-gazing.com/man-puts-iphone-inside-guitar-begins-play-captures-stunning/
  21. Or entire economy is based on this premise...cheap, mass produced crap with a deliberately short lifespan, guaranteeing that you will replace everything you own a dozen times over before you finally crap out yourself. The fact that "they don't make anything like they used to", is not an accident.
  22. Interesting policy that store has...next logical step in the evolution of the extended warranty scam, I suppose...instead of just hitting you once for an extra 15% of the item's purchase price like most Big Box stores attempt to do, this place has managed to convince people to continue paying a smaller percentage for an item, effectively forever. From a marketing perspective it's genius...a salesman's dream...to be in a constant state of selling the same item, to the same person, lol.
