  1. Now I get it! You like rules. A "concern"? Sorry, but no. Not remotely. Well OK...for those infatuated with rules and the vigorous enforcement thereof, yeah...I could see how this might keep you up nights. But those of us who don't need the powers that be to shield us from anything we don't like, couldn't care less. Frankly, I can't imagine what a paralyzing existence that must be... but I digress. An open-ended conversation amongst adults killing time and goofing around, is not the least bit "concerning". Regardless, it's beyond unlikely that you'll succeed in pi$$ing out this particular campfire. Best of luck though!
  2. Will you take a company check? ;)
  3. There's always an acoustic... then again that means that it'll be like living in a never-ending episode of MTV Unplugged. One second thought, I don't think I want to survive. ;)
  4. You have my personal guarantee that it will be arriving sometime between now and Doomsday.
  5. No, they won't...I look at any tech-heavy purchase same as I do a set of tires. It will perform a very specific function for a limited period of time, end of story. None of this stuff is maintainable forever, nor is it "investment" material.... the pace at which technology evolves, and the fact that these devices need to interact with ever-changing computer operating systems pretty much makes that impossible. Wishing and/or pretending otherwise is just guaranteed disappointment.
  6. Should have pushed bass and drums... at least then they'd have work, lol. Guitar players are a dime a dozen. ;)
  7. Voter suppression! Democracy under siege! *Please vote on Election Day! (if the machines are working). I'm me, and I approved this message. Paid for by Hanging Chad PAC. ;)
  8. 3:17 PM GMT, Monday 7/15/19. Winds will be out of the NE @ 11mph, chance of precipitation 27%. Nobody knows! Welcome to the mystery...;)
  9. +1... and with all the crappy guitar/ practice amp packages that your local Megalomusic hawks every Christmas, it's a borderline miracle that any kid ever sticks with it and learns to play. ;)
  10. Post in here instead: https://line6.com/support/forum/60-flextone-i-ii-iii-duoverb-hd147/ You won't see much Flextone traffic in here...
  11. Yes, and the issue is volume. Perceived loudness of different frequency ranges varies drastically with volume. A patch that's dialed in for low volume bedroom playing will be a hot mess cranked up to stage volume. You can accomplish that with the global EQ if you like. My preference is keeping different set lists of the same patches, just tweaked for different uses... live, headphones, studio monitors, etc. It's more work up front, but in the end it saves you from having to muck around with the global EQ every time you move your Helix someplace else. As mentioned above, if the global EQ could save settings for a given acoustic environment, I'd probably do it that way, and just have one set list...but I don't want to tweak things back and forth constantly... that drives me nuts. Especially at a gig. Ymmv...
  12. I wish I had the patience for that... lol. I make cold brew in the summer... doesn't really count though, as you don't actually have to "do" anything except full a big glass jug with water and wait.
  13. Where's the YouTube "GE Top-Loading Washing Machine Hour"? I'm having spin cycle issues...;)
  14. Sarcasm aside, there are two excellent ways to set a kid up for failure. One is to deliberately be an a$$hole, offering nothing but condemnation. I had one of those parents.... and no one in their right mind would advocate that. Equally ruinous however, is the opposite approach of limitless, empty praise for merely showing up and being adequate. Why? Because that vanishes the very second we dump them out into the world. And it's a simple, if not somewhat uncomfortable fact that "adequate" is what most of us are. Life is a bell curve, and the overwhelming majority of us live somewhere near the hump. Simply put, most people just aren't particularly special (and yes, I include myself. I'm not delusional)...and drilling it into their heads that they are special when it's mostly a lie, is a guaranteed recipe for disaster, every bit as much as constantly telling them that they're worthless. Lifelong exposure to ceaseless positive reinforcement, deserved or not, does nothing to prepare kids for a world that, most of the time, will not pat them on the back, even when it should. The result is often bitter, angry resentment when life doesn't turn out just as they had envisioned. The sane approach to most things is sraight down the middle... but that's not allowed anymore. We chose one extreme or the other, until today's "expert" (aka tomorrow's village idiot) writes an article asserting that it's time to swing the pendulum back the other way... and like sheep, we dutifully follow, common sense and consequences be damned.
  15. 44 Volume pedals have their uses, but they're not a substitute for leveling the relative volume of your patches for live use. Constantly screwing around with the pedal every time you switch patches is just barely more convenient than bending down to do the same thing with the master volume knob each time, and neither is an effective solution. You really need to spend some time leveling your patch volumes, as suggested in the post above. The only thing I'd add is that you need to do so at or close to the volume at which you intend to use the patches. *This is critical*. The dB curve is not linear, and perceived loudness varies dramatically with amplitude... it's just how our brains work. If you balance everything at comfy living room volume, your levels will still be all over the place when you crank up to stage volume.
  16. From the spawn of helicopter parents...who've spent much (if not all) of their lives having limitless praise heaped upon every thought, word, and deed...no matter how absurd. Wildly unrealistic expectations are the unfortunate, yet thoroughly predictable result. Can't un-ring that bell...
  17. Not sure what threads you've been reading, but 99.97% of the ranting that goes on around here is entitlement- driven whining about the lack of sufficiently frequent updates, and/or the substandard nature thereof, when they do finally arrive... it's practically a sport at this point. The 200 meter Freestyle Firmware Lament might just make it into the next Olympics...
  18. Here we go again! Round 6483! Woo hoo!
  19. I'll take a stab at it...
  20. Like I said...a million opinions. In 6 years, I've never touched the global string volumes.
  21. It's really the only thing that works... take the Spank models, for example. They're all anemic to begin with, compared with the Lesters... and just as can often be the case with a real Strat, the B and high E strings are overpowered by the lower strings. I've got the low E string as low as 50% for the neck pickup model, slightly higher for some of the others... The Lesters on the other hand, are considerably louder than the Strat, and much more balanced. I have no need to drag the low E string's output down by that much compared to the other strings... and neither group of settings will work for the acoustic models. They're all very different. There's also the piezo pickups themselves to consider... those outputs tend to vary from one saddle to the next. All these reasons are why they gave us the option of varying string output model by model in the first place... it ain't one size fits all. All that being said, if doing it globally works for you, so be it... but if that's case, your Variax is one in a million.
  22. Love me some Rothbard...
  23. Balancing models with mag pickups is one thing, but balancing model to model is another. The problem with using global levels is that some models are inherently louder than others. What works for the LP is unlikely to work for the Strat, etc etc... I'm surprised that you have any balance at all from one model to the next.
  24. I'm pretty sure I can outrun him. It takes a crane, and about 12 minutes to disassemble one of those things and put it back in it's case...;)
