For future reference, this information can be found on Helix Help, here: https://helixhelp.com/2017/04/07/tip-change-snapshot-led-color/ You can also do search for this tip in the search box on any page on Helix Help as well.

That info is already on the amps page: https://helixhelp.com/amps/

Ok everybody, All of the amp descriptions from this thread have been added to http://helixhelp.com. After work, I'll get started on migrating all of the effects as well. There's a lot of info here so it'll take a bit of time but hopefully it'll be done by the weekend.

1. The IR Manager simply prepends each file with a numerical value, from 001_ to 128_. This is how the beta version does it and I haven't experienced any problems myself. That said, if a solution comes to light, I'll update the IR Manager to utilize it. 2. The IR Manager knows nothing of any of your current patches. It doesn't interface with the Helix application at all. That said, I've found that being able to save your IR bundles for later use REALLY helps with upgrade hell as all of your ordered IRs can always be recalled by just opening the appropriate *.irbnd files with the IR Manager and re-exporting them. 3. I covered this a little in #2 but all you'll really need to do is save your *.irbnd file once and at a later time when you need to reimport your IR list into the Helix (upon upgrade perhaps), all you need to do is load up your previously saved *.irbnd file (this is the file extension that the IR Manager saves in, btw) and re-export the list to a new directory, then just select them for import in the Helix app. And finally, I'll start looking into an automatic synchronize feature that can figure out what your IR list in your Helix is, and create a *.irbnd file from that list... Not sure how feasible that will be though. Thanks for this information. I've added it to Helix Help. And thanks for the donation! Helix Help was starting to get a bit expensive and these donations will definitely help mitigate the costs.

Hey all, Jason here (the Helix Help dude). I've added a majority of the amp-based information from this thread to each amp on http://helixhelp.com. @riffyrafemetal: Wanna combine forces? I'd like to give you access to Helix Help so you can contribute. Thoughts? Thanks.

Hey everybody, I just pushed out a huge update to http://helixhelp.com Everyone will probably need to update their bookmarks due to some changes I had to make in the upgrade. The site is way more robust and expandable with a modern design and pretty pictures of each amp. I've also started adding the Release Notes for each firmware release and have the Helix Cheat Sheet available on the home page. Also, don't forget to checkout my new IR Manager. There is a beta available for Mac with a Windows version soon to follow. You can find it at Helix Help as well. One more thing... Make a new patch with the new Line 6 Badonk... It sounds amazing! Happy picking, Jason

Hey guys, Jason here (the dude that maintains http://helixhelp.com). I've created a free IR management tool for the Helix that is available for Beta testing. http://www.helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HelixIRManager If you're interested, you can download it from the link above. Right now, only the Mac version is available but a Windows version is on the way shortly. Please keep in mind that this is beta software and things might be broken and your experiences with it may vary. Anyway, I hope this makes everyone's life a little bit easier until Line 6 comes up with something official. Thanks.

Helix IR Manager coming soon for Windows and Mac: http://www.helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HelixIRManager

I have good news for you guys... I've been building a cross platform IR management tool that does all this trickery for you. I'm almost done and will likely release it from http://helixhelp.com next week. Stay tuned...

Just realized some behind the scenes updates I did to helixhelp.com set it back to 2.12. Will update everything back to 2.20 this evening. Sorry for the inconvenience everybody.
-
http://helixhelp.com is the closest thing.

Ah, thanks for catching that. I've updated the amp section and moved the Line 6 Badonk to the guitar list. And yep, I haven't updated all of the info on the new models just yet but will be doing so within the week of the official firmware release. There's also a bunch more work that I am in the midst of knocking out right now for version 2 of the site. Thanks!
-
I just updated http://helixhelp.com to be current with the upcoming version 2.20 release (a bit preemptive but I figured I'd rather have it ready to go now as I'm guessing the official firmware release is just a few days away). I've also made some behind the scenes adjustments that should make the overall page loading time extremely zippy. In most cases it should just be a couple of milliseconds. Anyway, I have a bit more free time now and a renewed focus on developing a more robust version 2 of the site. If you have any ideas you'd like to see, feel free to send me a message. Have a good one.

So we have a gig next Saturday and the soundguy...
jshimkoski replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
Sounds to me like the "sound guy" is an amateurish hack. I'd request a different guy. I'm pretty sure he'll give your band a bad sound anyway. If the venue cannot provide one or won't accept someone you bring, I'd decline to play. -
You might wanna try just using a #2 graphite pencil first. You'd be surprised at how well a typical pencil lubricates the nut.

An old trick I learned a long time ago is you should balance the level of all instruments to volume of the kick drum. All guitars should do a high pass around 90. Bass should find the bottom frequency that doesn't fight with the kick. Vocals should do a wide boost around 8k. That's about it. You'll find you don't need excessive volume because everything will just sound fat and separated.

Try a logarithmic curve on the volume block.

Best " FSW Boot Sequence " to wipe / clear Helix .... ?
jshimkoski replied to benifin's topic in Helix
http://helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.ResetOptions I'd say foot switch 9 & 10. -
I agree about the 57 Dynamic. I've found that I really like using a Dual Cab block containing the 67 Cond and the 160 Ribbon. I play around with the Early Reflections setting as well as the distance setting to get what I want. Every guitar player should always do a low cut at 80 at the very least to clean up any flub. In the world of electric guitar frequencies below that are junk and just muddle up the works. They cause conflicts with the kick drum and bass guitar. For any player not doing this, give it a shot... you'll be amazed at how much it cleans up your band's sound.

Any of you guys try Auria Pro? As far as iPad-based DAWs go, there's nothing better.
-
Here's something for you guys to try out. Since we can't mix and match preamp and power amp models (which would be pretty killer), I tried out a workaround that actually gives pretty decent results. Simply run a Preamp Block directly into an Amp Block. From here, completely lower all of the preamp settings in the Amp Block and raise the Preamp Block's parameters. Mix to taste... The idea here is to let the Amp Block's preamp color as little of the signal as possible. You might need to raise the drive in order to have the Preamp Block come through. After the Cab Block/IR Block, you might need to add a Gain Block to compensate for decreased volume. Earlier I tried a Cali Rect preamp into a Marshall Plexi (normal) amp to great effect. Actually gave a really nice combined sound of the two. Its something fun to try at the very least. You might find a unique combination that could be the foundation of your sound, who knows?

Am I thinking about this the right way? (Firehawk 1500 content)
jshimkoski replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
A couple other good options are: Matrix FRFR cabs if you want lightweight. Mission Engineering make the Gemini 1 and Gemini 2 (stereo version). These have a cool dial on the back of the cab that will allow you to make the FRFR cab sound like a traditional cab. I have the Mission Engineering Gemini 1 and love it. -
Yep. Just change the input block on the two paths and you're good to go. Helix rocks.

The JTV Spank models do not suck
jshimkoski replied to JTSC777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have the velcro on mine as well. The plink comes from the piezos not from the headstock's overtones (that was a separate issue). I've found that most of the plink can be alleviated if I palm mute a bit further back on the bridge than I typically would. Its not perfect but its better. My guess is either you haven't recorded with it yet or you palm mute a bit further back on the bridge than I do when you play. Either way, its a rad guitar and I love it. -
The JTV Spank models do not suck
jshimkoski replied to JTSC777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I can't say that I love the Spank model but it does do a pretty good job of capturing the sound of a Strat. All the models are pretty good. I wouldn't call any of them mind blowing but they give you the flavor you're looking for without much fuss. The only downside is the inability to dig in while palm muting. There's just too much "plink" as a result of the piezo pickups, in my opinion. For me, my JTV 59 is my favorite guitar all around. It sounds and feels great without even touching the modeling capability, its integration with the Helix is just fantastic (lack of Workbench HD integration is the only miss), the models give you a nice flavor of the guitars they are emulating, and the ability to quickly change tunings is a beautiful thing (if you don't mind the "wobble" sound that can occur on single notes that ring out. In a live situation I don't think its that much of an issue). Its a solid guitar even with its two quirks. I really hope Line 6 doesn't abandon the JTV line. I'm hoping for version 2 JTVs with the "plink" and "wobble" issues fixed and improved modeling. I won't hold my breath on that but if they do materialize, I'll be the first in line.
