  1. Looks like some sort of internationalization mode (for use with right to left languages such as Hebrew or Arabic)... but obviously without the text translated. I wonder how you did this wackiness.
  2. Thanks for The Helix Channel website. Such a great resource. I've added it to the home page of Helix Help for those interested. http://helixhelp.com
  3. Added this chart to the Wah page at Helix Help: http://helixhelp.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Wah Thanks for finding this!
  4. I love my JTV 59 (especially alongside the Helix) and I'm happy with it as is but there's always that question in the back of my mind: Will Line 6 release more body type and/or pickup emulations for the JTV? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Just gave that a shot and man... sounds frigging good.
  6. I've done an A/B of the Pro Co Rat through a Vox AC30 and the Helix's Vermin Dist through the Essex A-30. It was dead-on accurate across all settings. I haven't done any other A/B's though.
  7. http://helixhelp.com has been updated with the new models found in firmware 2.10. Excited for the new firmware!
  8. I could see someone making cab IRs out of this mic & pre from Slate Digital: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VMS Both the mic and the pre were engineered to be completely flat so, essentially, this could be the closest way of getting the "true cab" sound since the mic and pre wouldn't add color to the sonic tone of the cab in the room.
  9. Would I absolutely love a wireless VDI? Yes. Would I pay $1000 for it? If it powered my JVT, definitely. Otherwise, $300 tops.
  10. You should be able to use the GCP to send midi messages. Check out the manual: http://line6.com/data/6/0a0643892850577d59b6033d6/application/pdf/Helix%202.0%20Owners%20Manual%20-%20Rev%20C%20-%20English%20.pdf#page55 You'll probably just want to invest in the Helix Control unit though. It'll be a much better fit.
  11. Hey everybody, I just came across this and thought I'd share: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/matrix-elements-launches-new-frfr-guitar-cabs-for-amp-modellers-640090 I'm completely happy with my Mission Engineering Gemini 1 but I figured some of you guys are in the market for a new FRFR cab.
  12. My point is if they are taking the time to build out the Variax integration in their flagship product, I highly doubt they are going to be discontinued. I'm telling you man... Helix snapshots... That feature is straight-up amazing.
  13. It's always a very good idea to do a low cut around 70 - 90 Hz (guitar dependent). The kick drum and bass guitar live down there... The only thing an electric provides below 70 - 90Hz is trash. In a recording studio, this is just routine for pretty much all mixes. You'll be amazed at how well this cleans up the "mix" when you're playing live.
  14. With Line 6's new flagship product, the Helix, they are really building out some amazing features for the Variax line. If you guys haven't seen what's going on in that space you are truly missing out. I actually just purchased a JTV 59 simply so I could gain access to the integration. You have no idea how frigging cool it is to use a single footswitch to change your Amp, Cab, Mic, Effects, Delay, Room Reverb, Guitar model, tuning, volume, and tone knobs... All at once! It's just crazy! For that reason alone, once people start really getting their hands on the Helix, more Variax guitars will sell. The JTV line isn't going anywhere. If anything, they are working on a new even-better batch.
  15. Despite the single hang up I started this thread for, this update is truly amazing. Snapshots have completely changed the Helix workflow for the better. I'm hoping a fix (possibly the Present Global Blocks??) will come along sooner rather than later but I'll take that one downfall any day over not having snapshots. If you do decide to upgrade before your gig... Just ignore snapshots until after you play. They aren't intrusive and can easily be ignored if you really want to.... (You won't want to).
  16. http://helixhelp.com has some helpful tidbits. With the Helix, you can literally just plop the blocks down in any order. If it sounds good to you then you're good to go. That's all there is to it. That said, you typically want to just follow what you would do with a traditional setup: distortion, modulation, etc before amp and reverb and delay after. Make sure you have "Touch Select" turned on in the Footswitches section of the global settings (press the hamburger menu button). If you have "Touch Select" on, use the navigation wheel to select one of your blocks then touch (don't press) a footswitch for about a second. The screen will update its display asking you to assign the footswitch. With wah, just add a wah block to your preset and press firmly down on the expression pedal. The wah block should turn on. If you have a volume block, pressing this button will alternate both the volume and wah states by default. I hope this helps at least a little.
  17. Preset Global Blocks http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Preset-Global-Blocks-for-use-across-Snapshots/830335-23508?submitted=1 From the official documentation: IMPORTANT! Snapshots make it easy for multiple blocks assigned to the same footswitch to end up in unexpected states. For example, if FS2 toggles between Delay (ON) and Reverb (OFF) blocks and a snapshot turns the Reverb on, FS2 will suddenly turn both blocks on and o together. Line 6 should implement a feature to allow blocks to be "preset global blocks" (their state ignores individual snapshots). That way, if a user wants, they can use certain blocks across all snapshots and avoid wonky behavior, for example: Volume Block and Wah Block controlled by onboard footswitch. If you switch to Wah in Snapshot 1 then change to Snapshot 2, the Volume Block and the Wah Block are in broken states until you return to Snapshot 1 and correct the issue (things get even worse if you try to fix the issue from Snapshot 2 or another snapshot). Preset Global Blocks would fix this issue since they completely ignore snapshot states all together.
  18. That is true, however, I must counter with this: Not everyone uses external expression pedals and the Helix shouldn't assume as much. The fact that this issue is already noted in the official documentation should be enough for Line 6 to focus on some sort of fix. Who knows, maybe they already are? In any case, there is an idea scale for it anyway.
  19. That's the thing... switching between wah and volume (my original problem) is the biggest issue. Speaking of which, adding a wah into the mix only amplifies this issues. That's why allowing a block to be a Preset Global Block would fix all of this. If the volume, wah, etc could say, "My state will be the same across all snapshots, even if my enabled/disabled state changes" that would fix this issue.
  20. 1. Create a new brand new preset and just add a volume block. 2. Move the expression pedal to ensure the volume is correctly changing. 3. Go to snapshot 2 and ensure the volume block is on and functioning via the expression pedal. 4. Go back to snapshot 1 and press the expression pedal. The volume block dims and bypasses, correctly. 5. Go to snapshot 2, the volume block will be enabled but the expression pedal doesn't work (since your on Exp 2). 6. If you press the expression pedal button (to go back to Exp 1), it disables the volume block (correctly)... which leads to the problem. The volume block is stuck between two different states in the different snapshots. This is why I think having Preset Global Blocks are important. It'll get around this ugliness.
  21. I was thinking this as well but its definitely not the case. I tested this out with my Strat on a brand new preset as well, same issue.
  22. I'm talking about switching models on the JVT using Helix's snapshots within a single preset. The delay isn't horrible but has an audible dropout of a few milliseconds. You can compensate for it in some ways but, when playing live, the last thing I want to be thinking about is whether my guitar is gonna cut out for a split second when switching between a verse and a chorus. Of course, this is splitting hairs a bit. First world problems, am I right?
