@Dennis, there another thread about this with a workaround repair procedure. You have to do it for every affected preset (there's a trick to not also have to do each snapshot), so it's not exactly wonderful But I don't think I can make it through a 4 day weekend without the new toys, and I do use snapshots, so I guess I have to be down for it.
-
All my Helix stuff is also on Dropbox, just in case.
-
OK, that's great to know -- no intentional changes to the sound of existing presets, and nothing similar uncovered in testing.

Thanks for the steer, thinking on it. I find it really hard to pick IRs to buy. Maybe that means I should just not. Many of the tones people demo them with don't remind me of me in the slightest, no idea how to know what they'd sound like closer to my neck of the woods. Some of current my presets use the built-in cabs, some use various free IRs I've collected. By far my most commonly used IR is one roscoe5 made from a multi-cab Amplitube setup I had, posted up here somewhere. Don't know what anyone else would think of it, but it works for me. It just seems like a good idea to have a good collection of IRs available, in the same spirit as the collections of built-in cabs, and amps, and stomps are great. Sometimes I have a sound in my head I'm going for, but lots of the time it's also partly exploring the available options. Over time I've investigated a bunch of stuff that didn't immediately strike me as cool, and found something useful in there. Ah well. Anyone have any opinions about Rosen stuff? Favorite collections? I know they're well respected.

Agree. (And IRs.)
-
Oh, and the reason to zip it isn't to make it small, it's to wrap it up in a container that's easier to transport over the net.

Did the compare thing w a random preset of mine, didn't see anything obviously askew. At the risk of asking stupid questions, are you completely certain you're importing into firmware that's at least as recent as this preset? Have you tried rolling back and importing it into 201? Not that you want to be there, just as a diagnostic. Sucks if this is a general problem. Since datacommando couldn't import it either, it's pretty likely bent somehow. I haven't been w my Helix to try it myself yet. Come to think of it, I should try importing it before I upgrade, see if it's a 210 thing. I strongly suggest sending the file to Support, see what they make of it. It's important that they get an understanding of the problem ASAP so it can get fixed before more people get pronged.

Agree that better IR management would be a big plus, lots discussion of that in various threads. Suggest a 3-digit prefix, 2 isn't enough for all the IR slots.

If you have a decent file compare tool, compare that dead one with some others that work, and see if there's anything different about the structure of it (i.e., not the control values, which of course will be different). Probably not, but it's worth checking. If it's worth it to you, maybe create some hand edited copies, swapping out sections in the dead one for the same pieces on ones the work, see if you can get close, and maybe diagnose what makes the broken one broken.

If you have specific problems, they're much more likely to get fixed if you say what they are (beyond the clearly broken EXP pedal issue). If it's that "things sound different", that's clearly a concern for most of us if true, since we've worked hard to get our patches how we like them, but it's hard to focus on without more specific info. Several others have said they think everything sounds better, which makes me suspicious absent some statement from L6 that they did something that could cause it. But similarly, it's odd that everything is worse for you, especially given those comments from others. If your IRs and global settings have been restored, and things are still bad, please say in what way. I had planned to install this upgrade this morning, and I probably will since I'm not gigging, and can roll back if I need to, but I really do care about the sounds I've built, and will be watching this space to see what develops.

Haven't seen one. In my heart I lust after a nice Ownhammer collection, but they never have sales AFAIK. Also, their Studio Mix collection has 2,610 IR's. How are you supposed to deal with that? First world problems for sure, but still...

This thread is weird to me. My actual ancient Big Muff is good for sustainy oooooo sounds, but not for anything resembling a guitar through a cranked up amp, which it sounds like you're after. The Triangle seems to me to be in the same territory roughly. I guess there's a lot of variation in individual units though, and I've only had the one, just thought that's what it does.

Ouch. There but for the grace of etc, for all of us... One more Hail Mary if you're really stuck. Talk to Support, send them the bundle, maybe your stuff's in there, just sideways somehow, maybe they can help.

The nice thing about this group as opposed Facebook is that it's pretty much just what it is, not a huge ecosystem that wants to own my life. Anyone who's not on this group has a very low barrier to entry, and very low "cost" to joining, not the case with FB. This group already has significant mass to it, some L6 participation, and generally good vibes. I hope the few unpleasant conversations I've seen didn't put you off it. The vast majority of people and conversations here are kind and civil and friendly. Sliverhead is right that where there are people, especially people on the internet, there's going to be some lollipop-talk. Preventing that completely goes against human nature, attempts at it eventually run aground on the shores of whose-judgement-land, and I doubt you really want to be in the full time moderator business anyway. So anyway, I'm not planning to join you on FB, and don't really see the reason to dilute the Helix base with another meeting place, but of course you'll do what seems best to you.
-
Hmmm, not on Facebook, don't want to be, pretty OK with this group here. Any particular reason for yet another one?

Now that is some serious gear-houndage that is, very cool.

I've left my Helix connected for way longer than that without anything like that happening, I've never heard of such a thing, and I really think there would be some kind of warning in the docs if there was much of a chance of that. Not that it's impossible, just not likely. Was it Line 6 support that told you that? If not, I'd suggest contacting them, they know these devices the best. Does that USB port work for other things? Have you tried a different USB port with Helix? Restarted Helix? Restarted your computer?

At the risk of overstating the obvious, adjust stuff until you like it! Glenn's patches were built for his guitars, through his monitoring, to his taste, and even if some folks like them as shipped, they're not you in your situation. Make yourself happy with what's actually happening.
-
Another vote for a different USB port. 201 bricked me too, until I tried that. Apparently only one of the three ports on my laptop is reliable w Helix, though the others are fine for everything else. Odd but true, for me.

Because it's easy, try a different USB port if you can. For some reason, my Helix only connects reliably to one of the 3 on my laptop, when everything else is fine w any of them.
