  1. No global cut. Plus I am running my Big muff pedal through one of the effects loops so it would cut that too, right? I have done a low boost EQ post fuzz and tried actually High and/or mid cut too but it doesn't get me any closer unfortunately. Its not that the triangle fuzz sounds bad Its just not the sound I am wanting, or thinking of I guess, when I want a Big Muff. Not quite the amount of wool I want. Tonally it sounds very close and the distortion characteristics are the same it just doesn't have that wool and seems to have a bit less gain. Thanks for all your suggestions though CBTL!
  2. I love this new amp! It sounded a bit fender-y to me though but with more gain, so I A/B'd it with almost identical settings to the US Deluxe NRM and found them to sound basically the same when the deluxe had double the gain that the litigator had, so if you're looking for a cleaner sound too match/go with the litigator you could try that out.
  3. Hey CBTL and Thurston9. I tried that out and while it did sound really good, it unfortunately did not fix the problem I am having. Also it's not that the Triangle fuzz sounds bad though I does sound good it is just not quite Muff-y enough for me. about 75-80% there but that low end just is missing for me. Guess I'll just have to keep mine in my effects loop.
  4. Alright I've tried the Z-parameter thing and unfortunately that didn't help at all. I am aware that the Rat and Muff pedals have had many variations over the years and some vary even in between the same model. But I have tried a normal, newish, rat and a big box reissue and about 3-7 Muffs depending on if you count clones and most if not all of them have retained that low end punch that I feel is missing. I feel like a lot of models on the helix are most likely based off a single unit that you guys either have or borrowed So I can understand nothing will be the exact same. But I have been told that you base it off every model and that its a sum of all the models. This sounded kind of strange to me, and the person who said this may have been sorely misinformed, but maybe you can enlighten me on that. But I feel like a single model could not cover the ground between a tweed fender deluxe from the 50s or even brown face deluxe reverb and a modern day fender deluxe reverb. The circuits have changed. Same goes with the muff or rat or almost any other effect though. I know most people probably don't care, but I really wish I knew which versions of things were based off of. I guess at the end of the day it doesn't really matter because not much in the profile will change if I knew. I am not trying to troll at all. I love the Helix rave about it all the time. The midi controlling is worth the price of it alone. I just would like to get my rack as light as possible so I was hoping to get rid of some pedals and that I just was messing something up with the settings. Killer update too! really like the new amps! Great Job
  5. I really enjoyed this new amp as well. Sounds killer I really like cranking the gain up then using my guitars volume to change how clean/dirty it gets It seemed to sound fender to me but with roughly twice the amount of gain so I compared it to the deluxe got them to sound basically identical with basically the same EQ settings but with half the gain on the litigator. I wonder if they just added an extra gain stage
  6. Hey DI I'm finding the Vermin dist and Triangle fuzz to not have the deep end and punch that my physical pedals have at all they basically sound like completely different pedals. I really want to kick these out of the effects loops to make room for a synth and preamp so I am really hoping that I am just missing something. I have tried EQs and Compressors before and after the Triangle fuzz to no avail. I'm assuming you want to run the effects loop as instrument correct? also any other pointers would be awesome. For the record the TEEMAH! you can tweak to be dead on here's a video I made a while back. not the best quality but if you watch the whole thing I feel I show the similarites/differences pretty well
  7. Hey CBTL, Thanks for the response! I will definitely try that out! Haha I'm aware of the variation in muff circuits, I own 3-4 of the variants/clones and they each sound a bit different but have similar results unfortunately. And I am a big fan of the BEEFCAKE!!! haha I have the rack and I know I can run it in an effects loop but I am really hoping to down size and want as little in my rack as possible. The rat/vermin dist has similar results too though so I'm curious if other people are noticing this or if I'm just setting it up incorrectly and need to mess with a combo of pedals/effect blocks

    Big Muff Tone

Hey Everyone, I was running my Black Russian Big Muff (chicken head knobs) through the effects loop of the helix, as this is a big part of my sound, and was comparing/trying to get a similar tone out of the helix triangle fuzz. I noticed a couple big differences and was hoping some of you might be able to steer me in the right direction. The biggest difference and one that bugged me the most is how much more bottom end and punch the Russian BM had, I attempted at running a compressor and then an EQ(firstly by themselves, then together) before/after the Triangle Fuzz and didn't seem to be able to get it to do what I wanted at all. I also noticed that the sustain on the Russian at about 2 O'clock seemed to be hotter than the Triangle Fuzz at 10. This might be slightly due to the low end loss though. I tried out my rat in the effects loop against the Vermin Dist and noticed very similar results, losing that low end grit to it. Just curious if you lovely people have any suggestions for beefing those up! Thanks in advanced!
  9. I honestly wouldn't want the added midi or expression pedal, just one more row of buttons. Adding a row would not change the width of the board, just the depth so the sizing should be the same there I may be alone, but having an extra row of 6 buttons on the bottom of the board allowing the user to have two rows of effects and one as snapshots, or having two sets of snapshots and line row of presets, or one row of presets, one of snapshots, and one of quick effect changes (just a boost or room EQ type thing for when you notice mid song that the room is eating your lows/mids/highs) or just have all effects would be extremely useful. I do love the control and helix, I have it integrated pretty well into my rack system, but when working on new original songs that I am still figuring out the tone for it would be much easier to have an extra row of buttons to try out any of the effects I am using. At some point the Floor and rack unit would have to have different firmware anyways to allow word clock anyways am I incorrect? I was mostly curious if this was possible to even do Also I have not found any drawers that actually fit the control in them width wise. Shelves yes but most drawers are about 1/2" too small to fit the control in. The only drawer I found that could fit the control is a deep 18" drawer and even then I have to put it in sideways. If you are using any that fit please share so I can buy one. haha
  10. Apologies if this has been addressed. But is there any plan on having a helix 2.0 controller? similar to the FBV line upgrades? Is this even a possibility with the helix rack or does the software limit it to what hardware already exists? I currently have a very integrated midi/loop/rack set up and while experimenting I wish I had more foot switches to utilize similar to the RJM master mind 16/22. I know I could just buy one of those to control midi but I really love how well integrated the Helix control is just wishing it was about 1.5-2 times bigger(1 or 2 more rows). Any chance this is a possibility in the future? Or am I stick with 3rd party options?
  11. Hey everyone I have the helix rack, and the floor controller I am currently looking for a rack drawer(hopefully shallow/half depth) to store the helix controller in most I've seen are only 15.5"ish wide but the helix is 17" wide. As I'm hoping to go half depth drawer I was wondering what other people were using
  12. I currently have the helix rack hooked up to an effects gizmo, from there I have the strymon timeline, big sky, and Mobius, a bass specific fuzz, a synth, a bass distortion, and soon to have a bass preamp, in no particular order that I can run anywhere I want. Its nice to have this because I can run all four paths independently from each other, one being vocals, and if the guitarists amp craps out on a gig, with the strymons covering the more DSP intensive effects, I could easily add an extra amp in for them too I'm a guitarist who started playing bass for a band and have become much more of a bassist than guitarist, though I hope to have an end all rig for both with this. Currently most the effects are guitar driven, which is understandable, and I am stoked that they have what they already have for bass, but I hope they show the low enders some more love eventually too.
  13. Congrats on the gear head status! I agree theres just that something something you get with fimiliarity with your gear. Do you have those presets for IR creation on the Helix? I have a PC and a really old mac with logic pro on it unfortunately the mac works waaaaay better than the newer PC and the Helix's driver can't be downloaded on the Mac becasue its too old :(.
  14. So with this new update and snapshots I have been messing with midi implementation of the command center to send multiple messages at the same time to my strymon pedals(mobius, timeline, and bigsky) and my effects gizmo, an effects switcher. After messing with it for quite a while I think I have figured how to switch everything. And thought I would share it. But had a question with tap tempo I have it set up as follows: Mobius--Midi Ch2 Timeline--Midi Ch3 Big Sky--Midi Ch4 Effects Gizmo--Midi Ch5 I have an instant command in the command center for each of these they all use the the same basic set up: Command: Bank/Prog Midi Ch: XX (this is which ever midi channel is listed above) Bank CC00: 0 (this can also be 1 or 2 on the strymons for presets 128-299) Bank CC32: off Program:(this changes per snapshot, this message corresponds to which preset the strymon/E.G. has) With this I am able to switch to any preset I have set up on all the devices all at once. I have two quick questions though, I have the mobius and Timeline set up on two different midi channels so that I could be able to use bypass on each one seperately, because of this I have run into two different issues. Firstly the bypass command for the strymons need to use Command: Midi CC Midi Ch: XX CC: 102 Value: 0 I've noticed that changing snapshots only lets you change the Value parameter, and the CC# stays the same no matter what on the MIDI CC commands. Is this a bug or is the helix not capable of doing this? Also the timeline and the mobius both use tap tempo controls but because they are on different midi channels I can currently only assign one or the other to the tap tempo footswitch. Is there a way around this that anyone knows about?
  15. I'll definitely check those out this weekend! thanks man! what mics did you use on those? And I'm definitely curious as to how you make IR's I have this 6x12 acoustic fridge from the 70s that destroys everything else I play through and am sad when I cant bring it to a gig so it would be cool to be able to model that for myself
  16. That's really good to know! I originally bought this for guitar but have only really been using it for bass, as that's what I'm playing in my current project, and its been awesome, and saved my butt on a couple gigs. I know bass has a much smaller populous than guitar in the MFX world so its nice to know some stuff is being picked up. You guys are really killing it and I absolutely love my Helix so huge thanks to you all at L6
  17. I have seen you have made a ton of IR's just randomly throughout the forum, thanks for all your work! is there a place where you have all of them compiled that I could download them? if not that's cool. just curious Also that's a sweet find! I've been looking for a pair of EV12 speakers for a bit now so I can run both sides of my fryette power amp in stereo with my helix. On the lines of chipping in, while I know the updates for the helix are free, and hope they continue to be, and this idea might seem stupid to some. I think it would be cool if specific amps/pedals/effects people wanted on the helix could be "kickstarted" in a sense to cover the cost if a more obscure/boutique amp/effect is wanted. I know there is upvoting on the idea scale, but for more of the boutique/obscure stuff people might want, could be cool to be able to put your money where your mouth is and pitch a couple bucks towards it to raise the money for L6 to purchase one and pay for the modeling/engineering of it. I'm not saying to get rid of ideascale, or the free updates, but if I wanted a darkglass microtubes B7K modeled I doubt enough people know what it even is, let alone enough to get the upvotes needed to get it on the radar. But there might be a few hundred/thousand people out there willing to pitch some cash to cover the costs and make the more boutique stuff more viable to get done *cough* dumble *cough*. I still hope that the updates remain to be free to owners, but being able to pitch a few bucks to get to pick what is being modeled could be cool. Will this happen doubtful, due to time constraints, having to put a person on monitoring it, and the legal NDA stuff. But still could be cool to do. Maybe you could do something similar
  18. Awesome! I figured it would all be okay I just wanted to double check with the source. Thanks DI!
  19. Hey I recently switched to a rack system and have the helix rack, effects gizmo, alembic f2b, a power amp and a shelf powered by a pedal power 2+ These are all plugged into a furman M8dx. And plan to be adding a wireless system for guitar and in ears as well. I will be powering on the power amp seperately but would leaving the helix rack(and everything else except the power amp) in the on position and turning it on/off with the power conditioner damage the helix? I have been careful to power everything on individually but wanted to know if I could streamline the process Also I noticed when switching the helix rack off from the front power switch it makes a crackling sort of noise is this normal? It seems to be functioning properly but I don't want to damage it
  20. I have messed around a little bit with connecting a timeline and Mobius, I don't remember the exact command #'s but you can find them in the strymons manual. But I was able to set up the tap tempo for the Mobius and timeline to be controlled from the helix tap tempo. I set up the timeline and Mobius so they would both be on the same midi Channel 1. I was also able to set it up so switch A and B on the strymons were controlled by the helix as well, one switch for each. I set these up as midi commands 80 and 82 I believe, again these are in the manuals, and I set them to momentary not latching due to the lights on the helix would light up when switched, but if for example you hit "A" it would light up but if you then hit "B" then lights A and B on the helix would be lit up when only B was active so I opted for momentary switches that simply toggled when pressed. Currently you are only able to send one midi message per footswitch, it is a shame because it really limits the use of using midi in my opinion. But there was a hint from staff somewhere that they were working on something to alleviate this. Because of this and the way strymons midi commands are set up if you were to have timeline and the big sky on the same channel using the tap tempo on the helix would activate the C preset. Because you cant send multiple messages as well the "scrolling" up and down on banks cant be done from the helix. If you have all of your presets set up on the exact same bank number on the timeline and big sky you would be able to recall specific presets from one footswitch on the helix but it could not be on the big sky C switch because this would be the timelines tap tempo. A quick and dirty way to use these in the mean time is connect them on the same channel and have specific presets on the same banks and just use the timelines tap tempo and only use the big sky's A and B preset. I have no experience with the H9 so I can't help with that sorry

    Bass Patches

For bass, as with guitar, the best thing to do is look at the gear the artists you want to sound like and try to get gear as close as possible to it. On bass I have found it is best to run parallel paths from the get go. Keep one path clean except f or maybe a couple EQs for a bass, mid, or treble boost. Then on the second one put your effects you want to use. Early funk/r&b used the ampeg b15 quite heavily. In fact it is basically the r&b amp to have. I forget the name of it but they do have this amp modeled in the helix. I would just being the gain down and volume up to clean it up unless you want a bit of grit. Two effects I've liked is the mystery filter set pretty mildly and then for some grit take on of the leslie rotary blocks crank the gain put the speed to minimum vaue and use the mix between horn and speaker as a tone knob. It's killer for guitar too but it makes this really fat unique drive that I really dig.
  22. I could be completely off base here but it would seem that creating the profile would be the hard part and actually converting the profile to a block wouldn't be too time consuming for the power amp In my mind if you have all the data might as well use it. That's true with the mics I guess it could just turn into a weird pre of the mic mixed with the actual mic used
  23. This post mainly comes from a question/idea I had... It seems like the profiling has already been done for the mics and the power amps from the cabs and the amps sections in the helix. If all the profiling has been done already I think it would be really cool to have the power amp sections of the amps and the microphones available as a effects blocks. If they have not already been profiled then I'm sure there are cooler things to be looking into, but if all the data has already been collected it would be super awesome to get these in. I may be wrong but I would imagine that all of the amps power amp sections are already profiled and would just be [amp]-[preamp] of existing blocks. I think It would be really interesting to be able to mix and match different power and pre amps to get different sounds. Also I have found the helix to be really great with recording guitar, bass, and vocals I do not know if the microphones on the cabs were profiled by themselves or if they were profiled as a cab/mic combo. But if the mics were individually profiled It would be really cool to be able to have these available as separate blocks. This could be really awesome for vocals or when using the helix as an interface for recording a live amp.
  24. Hey while I haven't created one yet a good place to start is looking at his rig. He uses a micro amp-> digit each whammy->big muff pi->silver tone amp. Sometimes he adds a fender twin as well I would make one by setting a gain block->Pitch wham block->triangle fuzz block->amp. So for the amp either run it into a mail order twin or us double or both if you really want. For the gain I would crank it pretty high as that's how he gets his sputtering fuzz sound by almost overloading the fuzz circuit. and the fuzz I'd have the tone and fuzz at about 6.5-7
