  1. Since it works correctly when selected from the POD, I suspect that either the selector is bad or there is a bad connection on the cable between it and the main board. You will most likely need to send it to a service center. (after checking for loose connectors)
  2. Anyone that thinks software or firmware is free hasn't worked on a project to develop this stuff. It's a lot of work and the engineers that write this stuff are highly skilled and well paid.
  3. Good catch. I had not noticed that it did not come with a gig bag. My other Variax's all came with gig bags including my 500 and my 700 Acoustic.
  4. I use PC's all day and for me a new OS is a PIA. If I don't need new features, I don't want them either.
  5. There are not enough of the Standards out there to get a reading on the quality / playability but they have the same features and models as the JTV. The layout is different but the only things different are the price and the looks.
  6. When I see 10 running and it works like 7, then I may consider running it. No 8 for me ever.
  7. Typical mag pickup noise problem. All guitars have this problem and it depends greatly on the environment you play in and your amp grounding. I don't use the mags on my 69S very often for that reason. I replaced the mags in my Strat with active EMG's and that solves the problem. Did the same in my G&L ASAT. My basement music room is noisy.
  8. I will stick with 7 thankyou!
  9. I agree. There were some real dogs inbetween. I will wait until there is a real good reason to upgrade from Win7. I am happy with it.
  10. Did you plug in the 1/4 inch jack? It won't be powered without that. That should turn the Variax side light to green.
  11. They should have had a complete windows 7 mode in windows 8 for us that do not have touch screens and don't want the silly changes to the way things work. Maybe they did that I Windows 10?
  12. My old eyes can't deal with a small screen all day. I do use a laptop for my music stuff but I don't stare at that screen all day.
  13. No issues! I sit in front of a PC all day at work and I am very used to working with Windows7. I'm a keyboard and mouse guy - no touching. Fingerprints on screens drives me nuts. :-)
  14. If you have a touch screen then you want Windows 8. I have a laptop and I have no reason to want a touch screen or windows 8. I have two Windows 7 machines that I use at work so I want the same look and feel at home.
  15. I'm not. Windows 7 is just fine. I don't like 8.
  16. If you have the same bridge, then a tailpiece should not change the strings over the fretboard at all uness you adjust the bridge. (which you could do without the tailpiece)
  17. I doubt it. That is usually for sending it to a shop.
  18. I have not heard of USB ports breaking like this except for here with the Pod. Maybe their replaements are more robust! I am very careful with the USB cable on mine because I have heard of so many of them breaking just like yours did. That plastic part keeps the plug centered and prevents shorting. With it broken, bad things will happen.
  19. DO NOT USE THE USB until you replace that USB connector on your Pod. You will Short out and fry the USB chip on the board. That connector breaks easily and yours is broken!
  20. I got mine from Besttronics 98-030-004-XXX It's professional grade - far nicer than the Line6 cable!
  21. You need to get that fixed. You need to get an RMA or whatever you need to send or take it to Line6 repair. It may be a loose connection or it might be more serious. I am still pretty sure that the model control is a pot with a mechanical detent to put the pot in set positions
  22. I would not mess with anything not specifically designed for cleaning electronic contacts. Residue Free!!!!!! It's worth getting the good stuff when working with an expensive piece of gear. It will cost you much more to have it repaired if you spray in the wrong stuff and gum up the switches.
  23. Nice Mods! I always liked the looks of the 700. Never got one. I went from 500 to JTV.
  24. No need to remove the battery when running with VDI. The battery is not connected unless a 1/4 cable is plugged into the Variax!
