  1. hold down left key while powering on.
  2. upgrading gives you a TON of flexibility as well as fixing a number of issues (default amp settings and L6LINK related mostly) these issues upgrading are not typical... I've upgraded mine numerous times without issues.
  3. None of the pods work directly with workbench HD.... yet. not even the x versions.
  4. you do lose one capability with the 500x also... only reason i'm mentioning it is because of the forum in which this discussion exists. the original workbench software will not work with any of the x models. they do not plan to add that functionality. they still plan to add workbench HD functionality to all of the variax enabled pods. essentially the older software is no longer supported/upgraded. if you have a generation 1 variax you will probably prefer the non-x models for this reason.
  5. just drag and drop them into the memory window where you want them, and build the setlist...
  6. the "same type" cable is an industry standard cable (cat5) with an industry standard connecter/socket (rj45) it is used in many many things... including your computer and your cable modem.... neither of which offer any compatibility through that connection. you did good to ask, now you know. it's that simple.
  7. you can "enable" spillover, to work with the effects loop... so if you put a delay or whatever in the loop it will allow spillover. (it basically mutes the loop input and allow the output to remain on.) extra complication... but an option is better than no option.
  8. well it's like anything else... your musical heroes didn't necessarily play pristine instruments... and they didn't necessarily earn the stripes on their guitars either... heck even SRV's "Lenny" was a pawn shop buy.
  9. not that i necessarily agree with relic'ing... but it can make sense to some degree. for example if i buy a perfect 3000$ guitar, i'm going to cherish it touch it with kid gloves etc.... every ding is going to lower the value.... (turn into a 1500$ guitar in no time) a 3000$ relic would be completely unaffected by dings etc and i could simply play the crap out of it... knowing that it's retaining its value regardless. (will probably still be $2200 used) assuming both are equally maintained etc. just saying there is a bit of logic too it... even though i don't always agree etc.
  10. That's correct, it would take double the processing (DSP) to spillover, because you'd need to process both the previous and the current tone at the same time.
  11. I researched them a while back... and ended with this conclusion.... "Why would i want to turn my tube amp into a solid state amp?" and then of course i moved along.....

  13. same thing has happened to me before! an easy thing to miss.
  14. dig it... love the joystick button... and the video editing is almost as impressive as the playing.
  15. sounds like the consensus is to try a pair... they indeed work, but it's subjective as to whether or not you like them. I liked them on mine, but i'm play more clean crunch type sounds than metal/higain stuff... so that may factor in.
  16. USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible.. BUT, it has been known to cause issues with Line6 stuff. Not sure of the exact issues but plugging into a usb 2.0 slot has fixed some of them. keep in mind noone comes here and says "hey my usb 3.0 works great!" it could just be issues with certain 3.0 chipsets or manufacturers. if you don't mind the potential for it not working... i would give usb 3.0 a try... can't say with certainty that it will work... so you may end up back looking for a 2.0 card... but maybe not.
  17. I'm only 100% positive it affected the live boards, I can't confirm the bean or pro.
  18. I used the elixir polyweb's exclusively with my 600. loved them.
  19. 1. not normal. 2. not normal 3. not normal. I would honestly try an exchange if that's an option. If that's a pain in the rear... or you'd rather try other options first... reflash the firmware. (assuming the variax interface was included as it should be)
  20. they did BUT they didn't the firmware notes explicitly state this function does not work. and it WILL happen.. just hasn't happened yet. your attitude doesn't need to be "it is what it is"... that's just yours, mine, and our reality.
  21. well let's put it this way.... it is what it is. if the document says its anything other than what it is... does that change what it is? ............................................ that's my point about it not mattering... the release notes for the firmware update explicitly stated that it would not work.... so it overrides this anyway... as far as official/legal whatnot. ............................................. you can be mad... and i want it to work as much as anyone.... but why dafuq would anyone spend all their energy crying and screaming about koolaid and apologists... none of that alters the reality.... they will fix this, i'm certain of it. until then... well i guess keep crying why the rest of us play guitar.
  22. It really doesn't matter what it says... reality is what matters... or quoting myself: "if you don't like how it works... flash back and be happy... or you just have to wait until its ready." I'm certain we'd all like it to work through the VDI but it doesn't... we can all have a good cry..... or we can work with what we have until they fix it... and i'm certain they will... again.. we could write manuals about a button that promises epic talent... and it still wouldn't be reality... come join us.
  23. have you tried contacting them? they are a little slow on the mind reading.
  24. just get a locally sourced line6 PX2 and it will work. if you pursue any aftermarket power supply make sure it delivers AC power and not DC.
