In a roundabout way, yes. You could add a split to your tone path (assuming you aren't using all your paths) and have one output block set to the XLRs and the other to L6 Link. Then you just assign the expression pedals to control the level of each block accordingly.

Well that behavior doesn't make sense to me, if that's truly what's happening. How would the Helix "know" what command is assigned to that switch in the new preset before it is loaded? I suppose it's possible that Helix loads the preset and then send the command associated with that switch, but that doesn't seem like a useful behavior. Are you sure you're not just seeing the MIDI PC message associated with that preset being sent?
-
So are you saying you're in the mode where you have the bottom row of switches showing presets and the top showing effects? I believe what you're experiencing the expected behavior.

The AX8 has a similar gap between presets, but it does offer scenes, which may or may not help, depending on how drastically different your tones are from one another. With the scenes on the AX8, you can switch effects and the amp model from the X to Y state, which is nice. Switching the amp model state isn't seamless, though. If you wanted to use a different amp model for each of those four sounds you mentioned, you couldn't do that seamlessly with the AX8.

Yes, that would be a possibility, but it would certainly take up a lot of floor real estate. You might want to look at using the HD500X instead. That will let you have up to 8 effects in a preset. It wouldn't be double the DSP power of one M13, but unless you're planning on using multiple instances of DSP-intensive effects, you should be OK.

Won't happen... If you think about it, that's pretty much the equivalent of trying to copyright a paint color.

The big difference between what Line 6 does and what Joyo, etc do is that Line 6 has always been upfront about what amps and effects its modeling. Joyo and Behringer have essentially taken existing designs, copied them, and stamped their branding on them. What they do isn't much different than someone selling a cheap Rolex on the street. At least they put their name on it, though. Line 6 also has plenty of original IP under their belt. I will say that it does seem that Behringer ha gotten away from that part of the business. Since making recent acquisitions, they seem to be focusing their resources a lot more on live sound than on guitar stuff right now, and their live sound stuff is definitely more original.

Not necessarily the same thing, but I love using the Helix with my synths, both recording and live. The delays and the reverbs sound great. Here's a little EDM piece I made over the weekend. The acoustic was recorded using the Sonic Port VX, btw. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/earwerm

I used to have the Digitech JamMan, and it had this sort of function. I actually found it much harder to keep in time this way than simply counting and stepping on the switch on the downbeat of the 1. Not saying it's not worth having for some situations, but I think the thing with any looper is that you just have to get your timing down. I've seen plenty of people do some amazing things with really simple loopers - the good ol' DL4 probably still being the most ubiquitous.

I'm assuming he just wants to use the Helix as a recording interface for his mics. It will still work well for that purpose even if you don't want to use any of the on-board effects.
-
I mentioned this elsewhere, but power cycling the Helix re-calibrates the pedals, and the pedals give you the whole range then. I think the best practice in setting up is to plug the pedals into the Helix before you power it up.
-
Well, you just need another mic preamp with phantom power, and then you could use both of them to use the Helix as a recording interface. Plug the output of the preamp into on of the Returns, and you'd be good to go.

Q for L6 developers: How did amp emulation detail improve from Pod>HD>Helix ?
phil_m replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix

Kind of getting off topic a little, but I had this happen with my Egnater, but if I power cycled the Helix while the expression pedals were plugged in, they recalibrated correctly and worked fine.

Precise, not accurate... As DI already brought up - not the same thing! I would honestly be surprised if any guitar or any stringed instrument can hold a tuning within .5 a cent of the target for very long. Every guitar I've played, even ones with locking tuners or trem systems just naturally drifts.
-
Why don't you just use the 1/4" outs for your guitar and the XLR outs for your vocals (or vice versa)? You can already set the global EQ so it can apply to either the 1/4" outs or XLRs or both.

The Ideascale page requires a completely separate login from the Line 6 page. It's a third party site. There should be link to create a new account there. After you enter your information, your account will have to be approved by the site moderator before you can vote or suggest new ideas.

That would actually be way more interesting to (the mixing and matching of different pre and power sections) than the whole effects loops thing. But, yes, having the ability to model a "true" effects loop would be nice, too. I'm not against it, by any means. I just don't think the difference will be all that dramatic. I guess we always want what we don't have, though. :D

Interesting... I haven't tried yet myself. It is very clear in the manual that the knobs become unlocked when you turn the model knob, so that's definitely not a bug. Perhaps the pickup selector behavior was changed without any fanfare.

I like putting the spring reverb after the amp but before the cab. Works really well for me, and sounds fine. I think in the majority of cases, there would be little sonic difference between having an effect between the preamp and power amp and after the power amp and before the cab. There are some cases where if you had a lot of power amp saturation, it could make a difference, but the whole idea behind an effects loop is that it gives you the ability to put effects after saturation (for the most part).

In this photo, you're assigning the Ext Amp function to an Instant Command, not a footswitch. That means the amp will change channels when you bring this preset up. Is that your intent? You mentioned that you wanted to assign this function to footswitch. To do that, you need to select the icon for whatever footswitch you want to assign this command to, and than set it. If you're using a mono cable, you'd want to select 1(Tip).
-
The way the manual is written, it does sound like it is maybe the intent that the knobs should remain locked when the toggle switch is moved, although, it's not entirely clear. It is clear that turning the model knob unlucks the tone and volume knobs, though. I think it would be a nice feature to at least have the toggle switch available to be moved without unlocking the knobs, though.

You're talking about precision, not accuracy. Precision has to do with how fine tuned your measurements can be. Accuracy in the case of a tuner means that its calibration is true - its A440 really is A440. I'd say that most digital tuners are very accurate, however the precision varies. Some may be get you within +/- 5 cents, and some may be within +/- 1 or 2 cents. I imagine, though, if you were able charts out the results, their center pitches would all hold true. It's just that range of pitches they registered as true would be smaller or larger depending on the actual precision.

I don't see why you couldn't just use a USB extension cable - something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-USB-Extension-Cable-10-Feet/dp/B00001ZWXA

Are you sure the "offsets" parameter in the lower right hand side of the screen is set to "off"? I just did a quick test with my Helix by sending a pure sine wave signal from my digital synth rig (no pitch drifting with that), and the Helix immediately goes to green for the expected note. Honestly, this seems like something particular to your Helix or your setup. I've not seen any other complaints regarding the tuner in the months the Helix has been out. It's such a commonly used feature, that I'm sure if it were a widespread issue, it would have been raised before now. Not saying I don't believe you or saying you're wrong. I'm just kind of scratching my head with this one.
