  1. Used this patch with this guitar live yesterday, and it worked great. I think I reduced the reverb mix a little so it wasn't quite so wet sounding, but overall, I love it. Going the IR route has worked better than any other acoustic preamp or DI I've tried. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/takamine-p1nc-ir-test
  2. I'm pretty positive a 17" laptop won't fit. I believe a 15" will. I can double-check this evening.
  3. Use the 1/8" aux in on the back of the Amplifi. It's not my favorite type of connection as far as being robust, but it will work. One word of advice - get a male 1/8" right angle plug to make the connection into the Amplifi. A straight one has quite a bit of torque on it, and could easily be ripped out.
  4. Have you opened up a support ticket? They seem to be handling these sorts of issues on a case by case basis.
  5. One thing you could do, and I don't see why it wouldn't work, is to assign the control of the wah and volume both to EXP1 and then still have them both assigned to be turned on and off with the toe switch so that when wah is off volume is on, and vice versa. Really this would give you the same functionality as toggling between EXP1 and EXP2. I guess the only downside to this is that it would be wonky if you ever use the Helix without the external pedal for EXP2 attached.
  6. Yeah, you could do that if you want. If you plug a pedal into EXP3, the on-board pedal would act exactly the way it does without any pedals attached.
  7. No, it won't work. As soon as you plug a pedal into the EXP2 jack, the on-board pedal is always EXP1 and can't be toggled to be anything else.
  8. When you plug a pedal into EXP 2, the on-board pedal still works, it's just that it's always EXP1. So if you had your volume assigned to EXP2, it will now be the external pedal. You still turn the wah on and off with the toe switch. You may need to double-check your assignments, though. Also, the toe switch would still be assigned to turn the volume effect on and off, you need to remove that footswitch assignment. You want the volume to be on all the time.
  9. So the Bluetooth data connection works too this way?
  10. Do you have the latest firmware installed?
  11. Not trying to be too picky, but a DI box doesn't convert a line level signal to mic level - it converts a high impedance signal to low impedance. The level of the signal should remain at whatever it was before going through the box (assuming you don't attenuate it). As I've stated before, I personally think that the reason this is an issue is the auto-summing feature on the XLR outs. This is relatively unique. No other Line 6 products have it, as far as I know. So I don't think it's a design flaw as much as one design limitation being chosen over another one. Being in the design field myself, I'm always hesitant to throw out the word "flaw". It's all in the eye of the beholder, and you need to start from a place where you assume best intentions with things.
  12. It just toggles between them. I guess in some sense, max is on (the scribble strip label is bolded), and max is off (label is dimmed).
  13. I don't agree that it's better to use mic level if you're using the XLR outs. I think it's better to send the hottest level possible to the board and bypass the channel strip's preamp totally if possible. Many professional boards have a mic/line switch, so just have the sound guy set it to line.
  14. Do you perhaps have one of those volume blocks in Path 1 assigned to the same expression pedal?
  15. From a functionality perspective, none really. You get a few extra ins and outs with the rack, but both units are running the same firmware, and if you have the Rack and the Helix Control, the functionality is the same as the floorboard. They're just different form factors. Some people want all of their audio connections in a rack so they don't have to have any "mission critical" stuff on the floor.
  16. So you're setting up instant commands in the Command Center? As far as I know, the Helix doesn't send any PC commands automatically when you load a preset. It only sends what is programmed.
  17. That is what you call an "argument from silence". You're assuming that because Pete didn't use the Helix cabs that he thinks they're poor... He never said such a thing. I assumed that he simply prefers using the IRs he's most familiar with. It is kind of what most people do. I assume he has a pretty busy schedule, so rather than really try to craft tones entirely from scratch, he started with known entities. Personally, I've yet to hear a tone made with an IR that "blows away" the Helix's on-board cabs. It really comes down to a matter of taste. If you think a particular IR rocks - that's great! Use it. the Helix was built with that sort of flexibility in mind. But, personally I'm completely happy with the Helix cabs and haven't really been persuaded to spend money on third party ones.

Sean Halley has made some good tutorial type videos for Line 6:
  19. I think the manual is pretty darn detailed. What else do you need?
  20. SPDIF is probably your best bet... I don't quite get your comment about latency, though. There shouldn't be any latency through the Helix as long you're using it as the output device as well.
  21. The first thing is related to the "EXP Pedal Position" parameter under the Footswitches page of the Global Settings menu. If you have it set to "per preset", the parameter(s) you're controlling will be wherever it was when you saved the preset (which is what is happening in your case). The other option is to set this to "Global". This way the parameter(s) being controlled by the expression pedal will reflect the current position of the pedal when you load a preset. The second issue sounds like you probably have the Curve parameter for the volume pedal block set to linear. Try setting it to Logarithmic. I find that to be a much more natural response.
  22. A scribble strip is outlined whenever you have a block selected that's assigned to that footswitch.
  23. What were you playing through? It would be worth noting what version of firmware the unit is running. There was a bug in one of the early versions that made it so every mic on every cab defaulted to an SM57, which can be pretty harsh. Other than that, I'd say you need to be willing to spend a little time with it. Personally, I noticed a huge difference immediately between the Helix's models and my other stuff.
