It sounds like perhaps you selected "open" rather than "save" when you downloaded the flash file and your OS tried to open it with a text editor or something like that. You need to save the flash file to your computer (the desktop is always an easy place to save stuff like this), then open the updater program in "Offline Mode". When you do that, the program will tell you to select the file you want to send to the Helix, and you should be good to go.

Anytime some sort of systematic failure has come up with previous Line 6 products, they've stepped up to plate and warrantied that particular item for the lifetime of the product. The reality is, though, if we're talking purely about electronic items like LCD boards and LEDs, if they are going to fail, the vast majority of the time, like over 95% or higher, it will be within a few weeks of them being turned on. So in that sense, reports of a few failed scribble strips and LEDs aren't surprising to me.

I don't think you can actually ascertain anything as to what the total number of units with problems are. I suspect that compared to the total number out there, it's low. Of course, if you happen to have an issue, that doesn't matter to you, really. What matters is how Line 6 responds. I've seen nothing to suggest that they aren't taking every issue seriously. If you're asking for a company to produce a line where there are no problems, well, that's a unicorn. It doesn't happen. Any electronic item produced is going to have some number of failures. I was at a well-known theatrical lighting manufacturer's factory, and the owner of the factory put a sign up with a quote from the company who did the roof of their building. It said, "I guarantee your roof will fail, but when it does, I'll fix it." That is how this particular manufacturer views their product and reputation. They can't guarantee their product won't fail, but they'll do anything within their power to make it right.

Uh, this is one guy having this issue... I've not heard anyone else complaining of this particular thing. Sounds to me like perhaps there's a setting changed somewhere. To the original poster. Did you double-check the input pad setting as well? How about the mics that are being used on the cab model? Are they still the same as what they were?

What type of system are you trying to do the update with? This sounds like the sort of thing that might have something to do with the Updater app not playing nice with your computer and/or operating system. One thing you might want to try is downloading and updating the flash file outside of the updater and using the updater in offline mode.

Depends on whether the device and specific version of Android supports class compliant USB audio from what I understand.

Do you have the 25K active version of Ernie Ball pedal? The passive version with the 250K pot won't work at all.

I have never experienced this in the 8 months or so I've had the Helix... Are you certain you didn't save your patch to a different setlist?
-
Monkey does not support Helix. You need to use the new Line 6 Updater application.

I think the vast majority of people will be playing/streaming music from their PC, tablet or phone nowadays anyway. I can count the number of times I've actually used the 1/8" input on my X3L and HD500 on one hand. Using the USB audio is actually a much more convenient way to go about it. If people really want to have the ability to jam with another device with a headphone output, they could always pick up one of these: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHMX400?siid=38044

It has kind of been said, but I want to make sure it's clear. In the tone you put up, you have everything in paths 1A and 1B. This means you are only taking advantage of half of the total processing power available. You need to move stuff into paths 2A and 2B to start using the second processor.

If you're using iOS9, you can use a camera kit to streams audio from your iPhone to the Helix over the Helix's USB connection.

So given the choice of having the Helix earlier or delaying the release to wait for an editor, you would have voted to delay the release? I would rather have the Helix in hand, myself. Typically, this is how Line 6 releases have been. The product is pretty much always released several months prior to the editor. If the lack of an editor is a dealbreaker for people, than they should hold off on the purchase for now. I don't think Line 6 views editors as being as "mission critical" as other companies might. They tend to make it so it's actually feasible/easy to use the devices without them.

I wonder if the reason it's an issue might not have to do with the fact that the XLR outs are auto-sensing in the sense that they need to be able to tell the Helix when only one is connected so that the XLR outs automatically sum. I don't know enough about the actual circuit, but I could see that it came down to a decision like, "well, we can do this, but you have to give up this...". Such is the reality of design a lot of times.

I was thinking about this last night, and another workaround that should work without buying actual phantom power blockers is simply using an XLR to 1/4" (TS) cable and taking that into a direct box. The direct box would block the phantom power as well. Of course, if you're not using the 1/4" outs for anything else, you might as well just use those. But if you're using the 1/4" outs for something else and still want to use the XLR outs, those little XLR to 1/4" cables can be bought for under $10, maybe under $5. Most places that have sound systems have direct boxes laying around. It's a little weird, because you'd be going from balanced to unbalanced and then back to balanced, but as long it's a short cable, it really doesn't matter much. Of course, the easiest thing is to just turn phantom power if possible.

Yes, looks like you have it down.

You can replace all of the on-board presets with your own if you want to. You aren't forced to keep the factory ones. Beyond that, with the app, you can save an unlimited number of presets that you can call up whenever you want (while synced via Bluetooth).

What you're doing is perfectly fine, and, actually, better than using another interface when it comes to latency. The HD500X is your audio interface in your case.

I don't know if Line 6 will implement scenes or not. I suspect probably not, but I could very well be wrong. I think they will come up with another way to handle spillover, personally. I think the concept of scenes adds another layer of complexity that they simply might not want to deal with. The same goes for X/Y states for blocks. You can already do something very much like this with the controller functionality that's available. As far as the various MIDI controller items, you have some good points. I don't suspect #4 is technically feasible as the ethercon connector on the Helix is a dedicated Variax interface. And as far as #5, there's nothing really stopping you from doing that now. You could easily set up a blank preset with the MIDI control you need and nothing else.

Well, at the most basic level, if you want to maintain true stereo through the Helix, you need to use stereo effects. There are mono and stereo versions of the effects. But beyond that, if you use just one of the 1/4" or XLR outs, the Helix will sum that signal to mono. So, yes, you could conceivably have a stereo signal via the SPDIF and a mono out of the 1/4". Although, actually, the best way to do what you're wanting to do might be to insert a send block in front of the amp model in the Helix. That way you could send the signal with the amp modeling to the SPDIF and the effects-only signal to your amp.

I can assure you they don't... Sorry you're having issues with your Helix. I hope they get it taken care of in one way or another. The latest firmware does address dropouts that happen when using the expression pedal toe switch.

Line 6 doesn't delete threads or comments here. The only time they ever would is if it's a matter of someone personally attacking someone else of blatantly disregarding the terms of service. They won't delete comments or threads just because they are critical of things.

Lol... I can assure you that no one at Line 6 considers this launch a nightmare. Everyone I've heard speak of it considers it a grand slam, hit out of the park. Having demand surpass supply is where you want to be as a manufacturer, for sure. It definitely beats the alternative. If the surprise is a result of anything, perhaps it's a matter of people telling them one thing in surveys but then acting another way in real life. I really do think there is a general surprise at the number of people will to spend money in this price range.
