It's kind of funny - the M13 does have a power switch, but I never use it. I just leave it on all the time. I actually tend to leave my pedalboard powered up all the time when it's at my house. It's just easier. These pedals draw so little in the way of energy, that it probably costs cents a month to leave it plugged in. I just find I'm more apt to use it if I leave it plugged in.

Really, though, the XT and the X3 are the same generation. The X3 simply put all the XT models, including everything from all the model packs, into one package. There were a few more additions. They added some more effects to the X3 line that the XT never saw, and if I remember correctly a few more amps. And also consider the fact that the XT/X3 models are still being used in current products such as POD Farm and Amplifi. I wouldn't be too worried about Line 6 dropping the HD format. If anything, their history shows that they get as much out of their R&D as they can.

Jtv-69 Neck Issues - Fixed?
phil_m replied to gene1714's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I do believe they slightly altered the neck profile on the 69 and 69S from the original version. I'm not exactly sure what was altered, though. It does seem like the number of complaints regarding strings slipping off and the like have declined here in the last year or so. -
Search For A Tone Without Using The Music Library?
phil_m replied to bryanaldridge's topic in AMPLIFi
I don't think so, but the way the editor works, it wouldn't really be any different. I'd recommend that anyone who's interested and has the ability to simply download the app and play around with it a little. The app itself is free, and you just need a Line 6 account to sign into it. It's pretty intuitive. -
Search For A Tone Without Using The Music Library?
phil_m replied to bryanaldridge's topic in AMPLIFi
Yeah, you can manually search for a tone by song or artist name in the app. If you're in the song library part of the app, hit the "Playing" icon on the upper right hand corner of the screen, and there's a field that says "Search Tone Cloud". -
M13 Loses Presets If Unplugged For More Than A Few Days
phil_m replied to G_Money's topic in M5 / M9 / M13
Are you sure you're not accidentally switching folders? There are four folders - 4 sets of 12 - and each folder contains the same 12 scenes when the unit comes from the factory. I've actually seen this same question asked before, and it turned out that the person was changing folders and not realizing it. -
Someone else posted this link on another thread, but it does include the weight and dimensions. The weights listed above must be the shipped weights, because these are a little less. Not a whole lot, though. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifiers/ampl/amplififaq AMPLIFi 75 Specs 75 watts 8†custom speaker 2 mid-frequency drivers 2 high-frequency drivers Weight: 20 lbs 8 oz Dimensions: H: 12.5" W: 17.5" D: 8" 1/4†Guitar input and 1/8†Stereo Aux input 1/4†Headphone output Tap tempo/tuner 4 onboard presets (access unlimited presets via app) Stereo Wet/Dry Effects for immersive sound Compatible with Line 6 FBV MkII Foot Controllers USB connection Bluetooth streaming audio (compatible with Android, iOS and Mac or PC) AMPLIFi 150 Specs 150 watts 12†custom Celestion speaker 2 mid-frequency drivers 2 high-frequency drivers Weight: 35 lbs 10 oz Dimensions: H: 16.25" W: 22.5" D: 9.5" 1/4†Guitar input and 1/8†Stereo Aux input 1/4†Headphone output Tap tempo/tuner 4 onboard presets (access unlimited presets via app) Stereo Wet/Dry Effects for immersive sound Compatible with Line 6 FBV MkII Foot Controllers USB connection Bluetooth streaming audio (compatible with Android, iOS and Mac or PC)

Hate to burst your bubble, but he's changing models on the JTV manually. It looks like he actually switched models on the JTV first and then stepped on the HD500 to change to a different preset. He is going wireless, but by doing so, he's giving up the ability to control the JTV with the HD500.

Yeah, it looks like the ledge is actually the handle. I don't think there's anything that pops out.

Well, Line 6 isn't marketing it to everyone who owns a phone... They're marketing to a small subset of the population - guitarists who also are technically savvy enough to want to use their device with an amp. It would be nice to have an Android app, and I hope they do. I think, though, that in the audio world, iOS is still seen as what the industry wants.
-
I'm not sure about the weight or dimensions yet. As far as a handle, I believe that it's under the little ledge on top of the amp. You can kind of see it in this picture:
-
What exactly is your request? There's only the onboard pedal and the one external expression pedal input. How do you propose they expand it?
-
Are you sure you're in manual save mode and not autosave? The process won't work the same way in autosave mode.
-
Well, really, you can control as many parameters as you want to with the expression pedals. You're just limited to the two pedals. But, I don't think there's a way that you'll be able to control all those things independently. One thing you could do is set up the external pedal (EXP1) to control the amp drive, then set up the onboard pedal (EXP1) to control wah and also control a volume pedal after the amp block. The volume pedal effect would do essentially the same thing as controlling the amp volume. You would have to have it set up so that you have the both the wah and volume turned off and on by the expression pedal toe switch and have them toggled opposite of one another - when wah is on, volume is off and vice versa. This means, though, that when you switch to wah, your volume will be at max. The other option is to buy a JTV Variax. :) With that you get two additional controllers - the volume and tone knob on the guitar. You can use them like extra expression pedals essentially.

Depends on what you mean by a "real Strat" I guess. Right now I have five Strats in my possession (need to sell a few, but have been putting it off...). Anyway, they all sound slightly different. To me the Spank model on my JTV69 sounds most similar to the 2012 American Standard I have. I actually recorded comparisons in the "quack" positions and put them up here, and more people chose the Variax model as the real Strat than the real Strat. I guess all I'm saying is that there's no one "real" Strat sound. If you don't like the stock sounds, you can always edit them in Workbench. To me, that's really the genius behind the JTV. You're not stuck with what someone else thinks sounds good. You can customize it to what you like.

There are power transformers in solid state amps, but not standalone output transformers. They are simply built into the power amp, and so you essentially go straight from the power amp to the speakers with no output transformer. All I'm saying is that it's not an apples to apples comparison. I brought up Duoverb because with that amp, there were systematic failures with the power amps. They had gotten some bad components from a supplier. It's the same thing that happened with the output transformers in the DT50. It just happens.
-
Well, seeing that the Vetta was solid state, and didn't have an output transformer, it's kind of moot point... jus' sayin'... My Duoverb, which was around the same vintage as the Vetta (I believe I got it in 2003) did have a power amp that blew up, though.

Digitech Istomp Blowout At $39.99 On Mf. Bought 2. Opinions On Them?
phil_m replied to stumblinman's topic in Line 6 Lounge
I bought one a few weeks ago. It's cool for what it is, especially at that price. I have mine set to the "Angelic Choir" effect which is kind of similar to Line 6's OctoVerb. Two of them are less than the M5, but they're all quite less flexible. You have to hook up your iPhone or iPad whenever you want to switch effect types. There's no screen on the pedal itself, so you either have to use the little sticker label things or just remember what the parameters are. I'm not ragging on the product overall. I just think the concept could have been refined a bit more. -
Sure they do... Just like any other company selling consumer goods. Even a relatively technologically conservative company like Fender releases new guitars and amp every year. The thing with them, though, is that they rarely introduce any new technology. A good bit of what they do is simply building reissues of decades old products. No one is forcing people to buy the stuff, though.
-
Yeah, I don't think it's so much planned obsolescence as much as it's inevitable obsolescence. For one thing, with most consumer devices, people actually start wanting newer and shinier before whatever it is they have actually wears out. Really, how many items have you owned that have simply worn out and you needed to replace? I can only think of a relative handful where that's actually happened. Most of the time something new comes out, and I think, "ooh, that looks cooler than this old piece of crap... I'm buying that!".

M13 Loses Presets If Unplugged For More Than A Few Days
phil_m replied to G_Money's topic in M5 / M9 / M13
No, there's no internal battery in the M13. The early PODs had that, but they were using a different type of memory. But, anyway, when you say "loses presets", what exactly do you mean? Do you have named presets that aren't there when you turn it on? -
I don't think there's a whole lot Line 6 is going to be able to do to help you. I believe Aliexpress is a site kind of like eBay in the sense that it's stuff sold by third party sellers. Did the seller claim to be a Line 6 dealer?
-
The guys on the Andertons video mentioned an Android app in passing. I haven't seen anything officially confirmed, though.

You can have alternate tuning on 12-string models, and you can make any model a 12-string by turning on parallel pitch in Workbench, but you can't have the octave string be another note than the base string. You can adjust the octave string's pitch by a semitone in either way by changing the "cents" parameter, but that's really there for fine tuning purposes. So you won't be able to have the 3rd and 4th strings play completely different notes like you want.

Yeah, iOS7. I think it has something to do with iTunes Match. I don't really store any music locally on my phone. It does download it if I play it, but the vast majority of my library isn't on my phone. I imagine if I turned iTunes Match off, it would maybe show up and play. I suspect that may be an Apple limitation - not allowing third party apps to access songs through iTunes Match.
