Question: has a SINGLE ideascale post been implemented in ANY Line 6 product line? I feel like it is simply a more reassuring product feedback form, which I called "the black hole" back when I threw ideas into it and nothing came out. I had been asking for a 5150 and Mesa Mark II/IV a few months after I bought this unit back in 2011. As well as a number of other simple feature requests, such as putting the EQ's in terms of HZ and db instead of %. We can argue its laziness or strategy or technical all day. The fact is, we don't get any answer from the company. So we don't know. All we know is 3 years in, nothing has changed. A lot of people argue against thinking that Line 6 should update the product - after all, then it'd be more difficult to sell future products. Well, no. I will probably never buy another Line 6 product ever again. It's not because they didn't grovel to me and give me everything I wanted. It's the fact that they purposefully dangle things like the product feedback form and ideascale site in front of your eyes as though they might actually give you some of this stuff. They won't, but they won't admit it. I know this because they won't fix the EQ thing. It's a glaring issue, but it's not worth their time apparently. They are too busy adding to their arsenal of product lines. It's kind of a sleazy M$ strategy - let the consumer think something is coming, and try to get them to buy a Variax or stagesource or mixer or DT or whatnot in the meantime that has enhanced functionality and "locks" them into your products vs. your competitors. Maybe some get suckered and then just roll over. Or maybe you love all that stuff, and found the Pod HD has everything you could want - more power to you. For me, I refused to keep playing the game and move on. I own a Kemper now. I get new amps/cabs everyday. I can actually talk to the owner of the company and its employees. They discuss feature requests, bugs, etc. I'm not trying to compare apples to oranges. For me though, at least knowing what to expect or not goes a long way. Say what you will, but I assure you the arguing is a waste of your time. Not sure about the amp model requests, but I'd put my money on YOU'RE NOT GETTING THEM.

hey guys! been a while since I dropped into this board - funny to see my name in a thread title. http://www.foobazaar.com/podhd/patches/ is the root level for all the patches I've shared. http://www.foobazaar.com/podhd/patches/XXL_Uber_Cab/ are my personal favorites. I started using the XXL/Uber cabs together and got the best sound from that, but I never had the chance to apply it to all my patches where I'd want to use it. I also only made hd500 versions. I don't think the hd500 folder has these patches in there. EDIT2: forgot to mention - the HD Desktop patches might sound horrid. I don't have one of these, so to convert, I had to use a converter. Not sure what the issue is, but for some reason it can set all the amp/cab DEP's to 50%. Sorry. If you feel you need them, download HD500 Edit and look at the settings and recreate them in the HD Desktop patch. I'd do this, but I really don't have time (or the patience). Most of my patches use "dual cabs". You need to understand there are numerous potential phase issues with this setup, which is why there are often neutral EQ's on one channel but not the other. Or why it sounds like crap if you switch the mic. There's a whole section of my guide devoted to this topic, but is not a breeze to comprehend. I don't check this forum often. If you want to get in touch with me, the best way to do so is through the contact form on my site - http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/contact Numerous people have had trouble downloading my patches. First try right-clicking and choosing to save the link location (different browsers might use different verbiage). Try a different browser if you can. If you still have problems, use the contact form. I'll reply back with all my patches in a zip file for you. Happy tone hunting! EDIT: I also did want to point out that my profiles are completely 100% freakin unrestricted. I don't care what you do with them - use them on your next album, modify them and redistribute them, tell people you made them up yourself...I don't care - I don't want a royalty or even a credit. I just want you to enjoy. If you feel like you need to give me anything, there is a donation link on my site. Oh, and I no longer take patch requests. sorry. but the guide is very extensive - if you read and apply the knowledge, you will have no problems dialing tones in yourself.

all this "why support a product when it's not bringing in new money?" talk is nonsense. what happens when your customers feel like you're making a sub-optimal product and you don't care about their opinions? how well does your next-gen product sell? you think i'm going to buy an xbox one after my 360 broke 3 times? i've had several generations of line 6 gear, and i'll probably never buy another. I am still really impressed by the Pod HD, but there are so many bad design decisions and lots of things have never been fixed. if you're going to limit your customers to your sub-par cabinet simulations, why not at least phase-align them? all i have seen since I bought the unit has been excuses.

Turning any of the amp Volume parameters up to 100% is a surefire way to clip the digital signal chain and get things to sound nasty. My advice is to turn MASTER VOLUME (the physical knob on the unit) up to maximum, but keep the Amp Volume around 50% and Mixer around 0 db. If that's not loud enough, the problem isn't about squeezing volume from the Pod, but your actual amp/monitor/PA/etc. Then use the MASTER VOLUME to get the correct level by adjusting downwards. dvuksanovich, i will try out the patch later on. My HD isn't even connected at the moment. I'm a fan of the 57 sound, even if it is a bit harsh. But it has to mix with the other cab/mic to get a full sound. Of course it's always nice to hear new combinations.

ideascale is a joke until i see a single item completed on there. just a more visible replacement for the "product feedback black hole" they used to have. the list of things that users found poorly designed about the Pod HD is too lengthy to list here. these things have been known for a long time. so have the wishlist amps/cabs/features. at this point, i'd be surprised if L6 resolves a single issue. they have other priorities, apparently. i got a Kemper and much prefer it. 10x as good is probably about accurate, at least for the amp/cab profiling and raw tone. there's a lot of crazy profiles out there, but on the whole, I find most of them sound as good as the best of the Pod's amp sims. Once you start tweaking them, they absolutely murder the Pod in terms of sounding like a real amp. it has all the features that were missing in the Pod and none of the issues. It just doesn't have a looper. But the Pod does and can serve as a MIDI controller + additional FX, some of which the Kemper doesn't have. the price is certainly unfortunate but worth it considering it solves all the GAS and frustration of the Pod.

Ok glad ppl are enjoyin them. I find it makes a world of difference. The petrucci recto rhythm used john's solo album, suspended animation, as the target tone, so the name is jp-sus. Theres a rhythm and a lea for that http://foobazaar.com/podhd/patches/XXL_Uber_Cab/SH_JP-SusR_L.h5e http://foobazaar.com/podhd/patches/XXL_Uber_Cab/SH_JP-SusL_L.h5e Those final L's are confusing. They were meant to indicate a version or revision. I was using MMDD dates but once i hit a year it was too obnoxious so i switched to letters. L = last ... But we know thats never true! Haha

i definitely ended up making that guide huge and very in-depth, and definitely can be very off-putting. glad to see a nice guide like yours and hope it helps people out. one bit of advice - instead of using the patch-cable in the loop approach, if you have an extra effects block, just put a volume pedal effect behind the mixer block, and set the volume to a fixed 80% (disable exp pedal control over the level). Then toggle it OFF to get your solo boost. Now you free up the effects loop for a better use, or you don't have to worry about any degradation from more AD/DA conversion or a bad cable or interference or worry about forgetting that patch cable at home.

i like around 60% threshold or higher and 0% level, also at the beginning of the chain. i also measured the frequency response and there is a mild but noticeable low pass filter effect at higher frequencies, i think like 10kHZ.

So This Is Why Line6 Doesn't Announce Updates....

the most important thing is to deliver, pure and simple. -
i have also found the built in cab/mic sims are lackluster. my workaround was to use what I call "dual cabs" - same amp in a dual amp path, but different cab/mics. This can run into phasing issues with certain combinations (i have done extensive research on this: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/cabsMics#dualCab ). I found by far the best combination was the Uber with 57 on axis and the XXL with 121 Ribbon. Also Uber with 409 and XXL with 57 on axis works well. See the my favorites section in the link above - you gotta scroll down to the end of the dual cabs section. i wouldn't advise anyone to wait on L6 to give them such instrumental features. This product line has been out for quite some time and not a peep about this. I'm on a Kemper now and couldn't be happier. actually i haven't even turned the HD on (not trying to dog the HD - great step forward for L6 but still plenty of room for improvement). Also, keep in mind that the Digitech GSP never officially added IR loading support - that was done on the side by I believe a former developer. I suspect companies always fear loading anything onto their hardware that may cause the unit to brick or that could potentially expose their IP.

Sorry i dont have a bean v1 and cant attest for that model. Also im not a huge slo fan in general, it sounds a little rough and buzzy to me, but with a lower midrange boost it gets fatter and smoother. My guide and patches are located here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/ The only slo patch i think i have is for a vai story of light tone. I have plenty of pod hd patches for other tones as well - keep in mind the bean versions dont set the amp and cab dep versions right. Download hd 500 edit and open the patches to see those settings but mostly i turn the cab deps down to around 25% except low cut which is around 80-120 hz

Glad you like it. To answer the questions... No, I have no real experience in sound engineering. I'm just kind of a perfectionist/tweeker, and I do come from a scientific/engineering background, so I do like to understand how things work. I also am a fairly cheap guy, and as every guitarist knows - stuff ain't cheap. So you gotta learn to get the best out of what you've got. I have no idea how long the guide took to put together. I originally was just collecting key information from forum threads, so that I could copy/paste it like FAQ to new forum members. Then I made a word doc, but I found myself updating it so much that I wanted it online, so I could edit without getting disorganized. If you look at the change log, you can see how much I've added to it and modified it over time. I have never seen or heard a DT-XX. I hear lots of good things, but I do know of a few small quirks. I've heard that the DT sounds better than the DT + Pod, running the Pod's pre-amp sims into the DT. Not sure if that's just a gain issue or what. Could just be slightly different gain staging/levels. I think also, when you use "no amp" on the Pod, it uses the DT's pre-amp simulation - there's a way around this so you CAN use "no amp" but I think you have to use Channel B (or vice versa). Overall, people seem to think it's not difficult to setup or figure out quirks.

Are you right-clicking the link above? That's not a direct link to the setlist file, but will create an html document to display the files at that URL. That could be the issue...
-
some people have mentioned they've had trouble dl'ing stuff. I don't know why any browser would try to display the files as html. I would not use right click - save as. Just left click the link and if prompted to open or save as, choose save as, and make sure the browser doesn't append .html on the file. Should be .h5e and .h5s files. What browser and OS are you using?

I have stumbled onto pure gold for a "dual cab" configuration. Channel A use Uber 4x12 + 57 on axis Channel B use XXL 4x12 + 121 Ribbon Set Channel A volume around 45-50% Set Channel B even or a bit less than Channel A. I find -5% works well. Set the Cab DEP's all around 25%. Don't use EQ's after the amps and before the mixer - this will cause phasing unless you apply the same amount and kind on each Channel. Use a Mid-Focus EQ after the mixer and set the HP freq to 15% and Q to around 25-35%. That should tame some boominess. You may have to use more midrange or highs than usual to get it to have enough. This is the most realistic tone I can get. It's not just the sound - it even affects the feel. The response is super crisp. The tone is thick and resonant. Highs are crisp. Sits perfectly in a mix. The tone has a nice rough edge to it too. Clips of XXL + Uber: https://soundcloud.com/meambobbo/ New patches: Index of /podhd/patches/XXL_Uber_Cab if you got a mid-focus eq in post-mixer placement, you can just set the hp freq between 12 and 20% and keep adjusting Q lower and lower and adjust the freq until you don't get any boom, but it sounds natural, and it doesn't sound thin. If there's too much roughness to the distortion, you may have too much bass from the guitar that a boost or pre-eq isn't downplaying, or be distorting the power section with a lot of bass on the amp control. Same goes for backing off the mids and spiking treble. When you turn up the master volume d.e.p. things start getting awesome, but can quickly turn to into a dying pickup truck, if you don't have the entire signal chain under control.

Ur absolutely correct esp in consideration of the only thing that matters: it has no search feature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHAT as far as disagreeing on how ideascale ranks ideas, well i have respect for people who really attempt to make it work. I went through pretty much all of them. Im not voting anyones ideas down unless it makes no sense or is just some subjective rant. Ill vote up all the issues i have and some features i want. I wanted to make some new ones but saw pretty much everything i would want If i disagree with the rankings, i accept that and i dont really care how l6 ranks them internally. But they need to act. It feels like theres no one running the company. Just products out the wazoo all with quirks and deficiencies while doing other things very well. The line needs to be thought of as far from mature and greatly expanded on before new competitors enter

have you guys seen the ideascale site. not exactly encouraging - all the top items could be predicted, and there are 0 in review, in progress, or completed. i have a feeling hd bean/pro x are around the corner and there'll be a lot of development to get everything functioning right. sometimes they'll try to sweeten such purchases by expanding the nbr of available models or other salivatory firmware updates. i'm just not getting my hopes up at this point.

i am meambobbo and I approve this post! another main thing to take note of -> every "line" in the onboard display, or in the HD Edit software on a computer, is a STEREO/DUAL signal. Towards the beginning of the signal, it's connected to the inputs, so it can seem to be more about dual mono tones, or getting the levels right for your needs, as said above. If you are using a single amp, it's all going to get mixed down to mono. Past the amp block and where you'd typically use stereo effects, the lines are more like a traditional stereo signal. But for dual amp tones, or times when you want to do a wet/dry thing with the two channels, it's important to realize EACH channel is also stereo. So it's 4 distinct signals at that point. You can take advantage of that by sending one side out via the fx loop send, which is actually a TRS connector, and can be separated out to stereo. Or do cab/mic on one side and not the other, and send the no cab version to a real power amp and cab. Also, the "pan" control on the mixer, is more accurately called "balance". full L or R isn't pushing both of the stereo signals into one of the outs; it's muting the other field. Full L means Mute R. here's my guide on routing: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/setup#routing

the use for the EQ graphs is to be able to anticipate the effect it will have on your tone. the narrow frequency bands that move opposite to how one would anticipate are very useful to be aware of. Trying to use the EQ's and getting less-than-satisfactory results may be due to some of these quirks. Maybe there's an alternative EQ, or maybe there's a better way to go about it. For example, rather than using the high and low parameters of the Parametric EQ to cut lows and highs, you're likely to get better results using the Mid-Focus EQ in only one channel, mixing to approximate how much of a midrange boost you want, without completely chopping off highs and lows.

I'll chime in. I see NOTHING changed other than the chip, chasis, footswitches, and LCD screen, maybe RAM. This seems aimed at the touring pro (at risk of scorning Pod HD Pro owners) who have shelled out for what seems like a now inferior product. It's definitely about computing power. More RAM only improves performance when you need to cache data to a disk or flash memory. Maybe the chip itself has more cache, which is faster than off-chip memory, but I think it's clear we're looking at more raw processing power. I doubt that the HD's algorithms are so large it has to ditch the ones that aren't processing and keep reloading them from flash. I can attest that the HD500 footswitches are sub-par, and the upgrade is probably good. Heard way too many stories ab footswitches not working. One of mine occasionally gives me grief and I don't even tour with it. Don't use it live, so I can't say if the LCD is an issue or not. Can't hurt to improve contrast... The raw power is welcome but the overall architecture is still bogged down. Why not add more effects blocks? Dual output? IR loading? WHAT THE ____ ARE THE DEVELOPERS IN THIS COMPANY DOING?!?!?!?! And the best question. Why in the ____ do the demo pics of the unit show NINE, YES NINE, effects in the chain. It's a BS photoshop mockup, not a picture of the actual device, which supports a maximum of 8 effects. Stinks of false advertising. The only thing I'd use this for is to use the additional power to fit reverb in patches I otherwise couldn't, or an extra effect or two. I have lots of patches like that. But unless I can hock my HD 500 and get a 500X, spending less than $100 on the turnover, it's not worth it to me. And there's a snowball shot in hell of that happening. I'll be waiting for the next gen to come around. I'm hoping Digitech or a dark horse will put out an amazing product, and maybe a new Kemper generation isn't too far away and used gen 1's aren't much more than $1000.
-
i bet you're clipping with all the different setups, only it's more difficult to hear the clipping through the amp. Here's my guide on finding and eliminating clipping: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/troubleshooting#clipping You may have to lower the patch volume to make enough headroom for the boost. Which means possibly re-leveling all your patches.

I took one look at one of those spreadsheets and said, WHOA. I simply don't have time to parse all that data. I think the 5% increments are good enough for most people. I've never heard a complaint for more precision - it just kind of helps to give you a better frame of reference than x %. Keep in mind I made the tables a ways back. They seem to agree with your data from a quick spot check, but there may be some divergence. But I think everything is good enough to give people a close idea of what to expect, which is the main point. I missed some of the finer details that you discovered with your more detailed analysis, like the boosts before dips with the Parametric high/low params, and the 2.2kHZ Graphic EQ. Those can be bewildering if you don't know about them. Q Filter is a strange beast. The parameters interact with each other in unpredictable ways, particularly mix and gain. If you ever do an analysis on them, you'll see exactly what a mean. It's difficult to explain in words or to even predict. But for the purpose of pre-EQ I use it for, it's not that pertinent. Anyway, let me know if you want me to add anything or change anything. Again, great work, and everyone appreciates it.
-
absolutely bizarre about the shift EQ output - I'm going to experiment with that myself. I want to post Ch. 1 as well, but I want to figure out which one is L and R.

all right - pictures are up! i linked to this thread and gave you props. let me know if you want me to include anything else. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq#effects
