This came up back in January in respect of Logic Pro and HX Edit. As GarageBand is the little brother of Logic then I would guess the same things apply (I need to double check this). This was my reply to the issue with Logic question. ”You will have noticed how Logic Pro takes control of your HX Stomp if you use it as an audio interface. HX Edit doesn’t like anything else running on USB at the same time and while you’re using HX Edit it can suddenly disconnect if it loses focus on the hardware. That is, for example, if you have HX Edit open and then spend several minutes messing around in Logic, when you go back the connection is gone”. It has been commented on in these forums for quite a while about HX Edit losing focus on some Macs - (you didn’t mention what model and OS you’re using). While you are editing a preset, should you decide to answer an email, when you click back onto the HX Edit the message pops up that the USB connection is lost. It can also lose the connection if you run iTunes in the background. Annoying, but just one of the many bits of USB voodoo, especially on Macs. I have my Helix floor constantly hooked up to my Mac via USB into Logic Pro and don’t seem to suffer from the sort of issues that many others appear to have. Don’t know why - maybe I am living on a ley line? There again, I usually don’t edit patches on the fly, but I also have Helix Native as a plug-in, which is like having a full Helix and HX Edit inside the DAW. I also have GarageBand, among many other DAWs, that I use for troubleshooting odd problems. I will have another look to see if this is still the case and post back later, as l am not in the studio for another few hours. In the meantime - simple solution, edit using your hardware HX Stomp or run HX Native in Logic Pro X or GarageBand. Another option - use a Windows PC, as “rd2rk” Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT (4 HOURS LATER): SCRUB ALL MY EARLIER COMMENT - IT WORKS! O.K. here's GarageBand v.10.3.5 running on an iMac (Retina 5K - 27inch - 3.3GHz Intel Core i5 - 32GB RAM - OSX 10.13.6 High Sierra) switching back and forth with HX Edit v3.11 connected via USB to a Helix Floor for both recording and playback. Didn't bother with the audio on this video because it is to simply show that it is possible to have both software items running at the same time. No apparent issues - unless of course you are running something different.

HELIX NATIVE will not change settings through snapshots
datacommando replied to gerryCol's topic in Helix Native
Hi, Check out the Helix Native Pilot’s Guide - Rev O (v3.10) - English Page 14 - Preset Compatibility with Helix and HX Devices plus Page 37-39 - Working with Snapshots link: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a410ad46078912adaa0e/application/pdf/Helix Native Pilot's Guide - English .pdf#page15 Note: The Pilot’s Guide is also built into Helix Native Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi, Well that’s new, but I wonder if it is a result of this. You may be the first, although probably not the last. I bet it’s a situation where you cannot contact the person who sold it to you for a refund. Hmm… caveat emptor - once again. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: All presets suck But if you really must - these are free - sign up for membership. https://www.fluidsolo.com/patchexchange/?selected_device=hxs

Hi Dennis, Maybe this one: Or this, Another, but it’s really old. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Precisely this! - Good point. As I noted earlier, there are endless threads on here regarding the old favourites such as, “the amp in the room”, “my headphones don’t sound like my monitors”, and “the preset I bought from x, or downloaded from Customtone doesn’t sound like the YouTube video”, etc. Until people finally realise that a modelling system is actually providing a fully produced sound, akin to sitting in a control room with a whole bunch of studio quality effects - this thing will continue. Along with the myth that a preset created by someone else will sound identical to the video - even if you had the same guitar, same gauge strings and “touch” of the person who created it - not possible, it is not and never can be the same. The only thing missing from the “studio control room” analogy is the engineer with years of experience of getting all that gear to create exactly the sound required. Sadly the Helix doesn’t provide a preset, snapshot or foot switch for that. What it does give you is the ability to arrange, mix and match all the these FX, amps and cabs into just about any configuration you wish - without blowing up anything or electrocuting yourself. The idea is to play with it all until you achieve the desired result. There are no shortcuts. I have been at this for a long time and have a rack full of stuff that cost many thousands and now sits in the corner gathering dust. My Helix covers most eventualities and essentially cost less than my Akai S950 sampler when new back in 1989. Granted Helix is not a sampler, but neither does it require floppy disks! To quote “cruisinon2” in the post above: “It'll either sink in eventually, or it won't.”

So am I - Brian must be made out of Terminator grade materials! Have a quick look at a Line 6 employee giving an early Helix a “kicking” - short example from about 25 sec in. NOTE: The early prototype knobs with polished edges!
-
Hmm… not sure about that. You would possibly need to order a container full - can’t see that happening really. I bought my Helix floor way back in Nov 2015 and I still have to put a serious “dink” in it. It’s built like a tank, but I am also a studio rat, so it is not really been exposed to any potential real damage. In fact it doesn’t even live on the floor - it’s on a stand and I use 2 external expression pedals.

Oh dear, you appear to have fallen down the rabbit hole, chasing that elusive Will o’the Wisp that is simply - vibrations in the air! Your predicament of trying to get a grip on this is just another one of the seemingly endless circle of people posting the same thing on these forums, over and over. It has been done to death. When you finally achieve your audio nirvana please let us know, then we can all disagree with that.

Welcome to the world of physics. Small speakers will distort earlier and probably more than big speakers (unless they are made with inferior components). You know how headphones, IEM and ear buds have very tiny small speakers and guitars cabs, P.A. rigs and studio monitors have big huge speakers in comparison. Well, that's just the way it works. https://www.quora.com/Do-physically-larger-speakers-sound-better-than-smaller-ones-when-played-at-the-same-volume Hope this helps/makes sense.

Your GOTO Compressor & settings when you just want to add sustain?
datacommando replied to johnnyvlee's topic in Helix
Hi, If you watch any recordings of the live performance of Possum Kingdom, you can see that what you describe as “sustain” is actually controlled feedback not a compressor as such. Check out early Jimi Hendrix doing the same thing - playing on sheer volume and feedback. I would guess that what you really need to produce this effect is one of these. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Here ya go - Fleabay - from the USA but cheaper. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224163403400?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=224163403400&targetid=1280075232379&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9046330&poi=&campaignid=9441192411&mkgroupid=123206633912&rlsatarget=pla-1280075232379&abcId=578896&merchantid=115666683&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-4SLBhCVARIsACrhWLVufpgJMlCUgl6lwtmNazOms09ChfZ4_EeA9jCeMQb0tZSJRnv2BOoaAqhZEALw_wcB or Full Compass in USA - No idea about shipping costs to U.K. https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/525522-line-6-30-45-0053-volume-knob-for-helix Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, That’s not such a great excuse. You said are U.K. based, and there used to be a thing called “The Supply of Goods And Services Act 1982”, but this has been updated, therefore I would suggest that you consult the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Specifically the “Fit for Purpose” section. Not sure if it covers this situation but check this out. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/consumer-rights-act-2015/consumer-rights-act-2015 You may find that it is easier to take up the complaint about a faulty Mic Input with the retailer that you bought it from. They must have a record of you buying it from them, and technically the responsibility for repair could lie with them. It’s all very complicated legal stuff, but make a call to your local Trading Standards office for clarification. https://www.gov.uk/find-local-trading-standards-office Hope this helps/makes sense.

Mono for mono, stereo if you want to take full advantage of those splendid stereo delays, reverbs, etc. I don’t restrict myself to only using Native on guitar tracks - synths, drums, vocals whatever you want really - just set up presets with effects only (no amp or cab). I usually prefer stereo. YMMV.

Ah, yes! The sub folders are created as part of the project package from Logic. It helps to maintain links to any audio files, samples etc, that may be needed with that particular project. In this case they will be empty folders. You only need to open the Logic file. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix Update 3.0.1 "Boot Failure, Entered Update Mode!"
datacommando replied to sventydeman's topic in Helix
Hi, This is a user group, Line 6 staff do not monitor the posts in this forum and rarely visit here. There is very little, or no chance that they will ever see you comment or question. FYI, If you were updating from a version prior to 2.80 when the Core operating system of the Helix group of products was changed, you would have encountered the “Boot Failure” screen. This happens when the previous system was flushed and the new brain was installed. At the time it created all sorts of mayhem - search for “update bricked my Helix” threads - most of which happened because people failed to read the notes supplied. link: Even though it is theoretically simple to update from any earlier version of the firmware, it’s not unknown for the update to glitch, or simply get to the “Boot Failure” message which then has people running to the internet screaming “Line 6 totalled my hardware”. Which when you think about it, is not exactly in their best interest really? A little research usually helps. As for “what is the root cause?” - Your update could have failed for many and varied reasons. It’s one of life’s little mysteries, unlike the solution, which is not a secret and is mentioned in the release notes for the firmware updates. Always worth a read before jumping in and proceeding with a firmware installation. Release Notes - Quote: IMPORTANT! Carefully read and follow the update instructions below. If you don't—and then run to the forums asking why it's not working—the interwebs will make fun of you. IMPORTANT! In the unlikely event that your update fails, please follow the steps below: Unplug the USB cable from both the back of your Helix and the computer. Turn your Helix/HX device off and on. Reconnect the USB cable to your Helix/HX device and the computer. Download, install, and launch the latest version of Line 6 Updater. In a failure state, the device will not connect to HX Edit. Line 6 Updater for macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9831 Line 6 Updater for Windows: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9832 Select your device and try updating to the latest firmware again. If the device does not show up in Line 6 Updater after these steps, try a different USB cable and/or USB port. If it still doesn't show up, try a different computer. Luckily, forum contributor “SaschaFranck” bailed you out this time. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Ah, maybe the file supplied by Sascha is a higher version number of Logic than the one you have and it’s failing to recognise it. Other than that - the only other thing is that the Zip file has an issue. Hope this helps/makes sense.
-
Hi Simply double click the project file and it should open into Logic. You could drag the project file onto the Logic program icon, or even open Logic, and from the file menu select “Open” and then navigate to the project file and select it. I guess you must be new to using Logic Pro? Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, This is from the Line 6 Release Notes for the v.2.90 update. Guess they must have thought that it was quite important information. Helix/HX 2.90 | Helix Native 1.90 "The Always Level Presets By Ear at Stage Volume with the Rest of the Band Playing Update" This is the original post. Essentially, the bottom line is - you cannot expect things to sound the same when using headphones in comparison to a P.A. The Fletcher Munson Curve is probably at work here. At low listening volumes – mid range frequencies sound more prominent, while the low and high frequency ranges seem to fall into the background. At high listening volumes – the lows and highs sound more prominent, while the mid range seems comparatively softer. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev D - English Page 19 Tuner https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a418962611d636e7c51b/application/pdf/HX Stomp 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev D - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, The DI audio signal from the HX Stomp is on USB 5 & 6 HX Stomp 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev D - English Page 55 USB Audio It also includes a section on re-amping, but once you have your unprocessed audio, simply play that back via Helix Native - simple. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I hope you realise what is involved in running a RTA of a room. You will need a microphone specifically designed for the job not just the app and the mic built into your phone. Have a look at this which is the real basics. I have seen guys spend many thousand on having a room “tuned” and speakers designed just for that space. It can get silly. Then watch the serious stuff on this video from 4.00 Hope this helps/makes sense - Good luck.

From the Fractal website: Analog inputs include Fractal Audio’s “Secret Sauce” 1/4″ instrument input, plus two separate stereo pairs of balanced 1/4″ jacks for use as “aux” ins or “returns.” The main stereo output is equipped with both XLR and 1/4″ outs, plus a headphones jack. Two additional independent stereo outputs — one XLR and one 1/4″ — can be used as “aux” outs or “sends.” There is also a diagram of how to connect using the 4CM on page 36 of the User Manual. https://www.fractalaudio.com/downloads/manuals/FM9/FM9-Owners-Manual.pdf I still think - not for me!

There is always something better further down the line - that’s how we got to this stage of digital modelling. Note: Subsequent to making the “no Helix 2” comment, Digital Igloo also went on to say that he was currently engaged in working on designs for 23 (yes, count ‘em, 23) potential products. O.K. Many of those may never see the light of day, but others - well who knows? It makes perfect sense that one of those could eventually be a potential successor to the current Helix, but as that was originally in development for many, many years I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to drop.

Hello, No problem, that was just my little joke about “shouting”. I guessed that you must be using Google Translate when I saw your post. The translator can be a great help, but sadly not today. The link to the older post from “Camelot_One” appears to be the best solution and it actually does work for very many users who had the SD Card problem. The main issue here is that there can be so many different configurations of computer systems that it can be very difficult to find and isolate what is the specific cause of the problem. Sorry that this is the only solution I have found regarding the SD Card issue. This is simply a “User Group” and Line 6 staff do not monitor these forums, so there is very little chance of them knowing about this unless you raise a support ticket. Possibly it would be wise to contact Line 6 Customer Support, they may be able to help you. Hope this helps/makes sense.
