O.K. Here we go again - this is like trying to explain what colour “red” is to someone who was born blind! “it's really frustrating to have it be such a restrictive, dangerous challenge to use.” Dangerous? How so? That’s a very strange comment, has anyone died using it? “I have no idea” Now, there’s a statement you made that could well be true. “it's still capable of so much more than it does now.” You can prove this - obviously? “I'm fairly certain that this is possible with the appropriate software (firmware)... of course, lots of coding work,...” And, of course you have knowledge and experience of this? “But I still can't use it for anything but the most simplistic looper song building... which is cool, but archaic.” Therefore, you went ahead and bought a product that did not fulfill your expectations! Oh, dear. How sad, never mind! “competitive with the most basic good live use loopers available for 40 to 80 bucks on amazon.” Hello! Would you believe it - that’s exactly what I did. It’s called “tools to do the job”, but no, because you bought into the Helix, now everything you ever dreamed should be included FREE! I won’t quote the all of the Tubes “What Do You Want From Life” again, but “a baby's arm holding an apple?”... you get the idea? “lack of development time and resources they have been given to create something more powerful.” Ha, ha, ha! And you know this? How? “It's just so so close, but it's like it's unfinished.” Well it’s been there for 5 years so, maybe when they finish developing the next generation of the firmware, they can go back to investing more time and resources to creating something more powerful which may save you having to buy a $50 looper. I really cannot comprehend this “entitlement” attitude or where it comes from. In my day whinging children were left to perish on frozen, wind swept mountain tops. How come everyone thinks this stuff that spent 10 years in research and development is so simple to modify on a whim of some ungrateful... I really do despair for humanity’s future if this is it. Be happy with what you have! WTF.

Yeah, right and I would like a Quantec Room Simulator, buy it ain’t gonna happen. I thought your idea was - quote: ”I totally get that many users would prefer a dedicated looper, and I have some of those, but the HX is soooo close to allowing me to use less gear!” Furthermore, FYI, posting requests like this goes nowhere on this forum: “If Line 6 is listening, this simple request would really open up some possibilities”. Nope, this is a user to user thing - Line 6 don’t routinely monitor these threads - no one can hear you scream in space! It also really amuses me that these idea requests are usually described as “simple”. If you have a “feature request” for something you would like added to a Line 6 product, you need to post to IdeaScale. Be sure to check that the idea has not been added perviously or you will water down the votes. Go here and sign up. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/campaign-home/51424 Once you have done that you can mention it in the pinned thread at the top of this forum to see if can attract others to vote for it. Easy really!

As you are in Europe, you could contact Thomman to ask if they can help. https://www.thomann.de/gb/compinfo_contact.html There is also a discussion here that may give you a solution. https://line6.com/support/topic/32075-helix-hx-effects-alternative-power-supply-now-only-1299/ Hope this helps

Is it possible to make a Helix HX Effects slave to another?
datacommando replied to Duboule's topic in Helix
As noted in the post above from "codamedia", by the time you have an HX Stomp (800g) and a HX Effects (2.2kg) with addition of power supplies, plus any extra MIDI controller hardware there really cannot be any great advantage. More stuff to connect with more cabling. If you need to "downsize" why not go for a Helix LT (5.44kg), which is a little lighter an probably more familiar to use - no having to learn all those new foot switches etc. -
Failed to connect to DSP engine 8201
datacommando replied to kim666mikkelsen's topic in Helix Native
NOTE TO ALL - Not sure if this is connected to the issue in Helix Native, but... This same error code is also known to occur on Helix hardware devices and the general opinion is that this seems to happen because of a “corrupt” preset which refuses to load. On hardware versions simply rebuilding the presets when “powering on” the unit might fix the “glitch”. Many people have complained about the amount of time it takes to run through the “rebuilding” presets after a firmware update, but it is a necessary task to make things work as they should. This was even more essential when the main “Core” of the Helix OS was changed in the v2.80 firmware. After that update, people also noted that if they loaded an older preset, or sometimes one from CustomTone, then the “rebuilding presets” routine would run again on the next power up. This is obviously needed to bring all the loaded presets in line with the latest firmware. Helix Native doesn’t mention anything about “rebuilding presets”, which is rather odd as it is the same engine as the hardware, but all I can say is - “I hope you read and followed all the release notes with the 2.80 firmware regarding Native backup and restore”. NOT SURE IF THIS HELPS Note: the latest version Helix Native 1.93 (released 9th July) is available to download. -
Failed to connect to DSP engine 8201
datacommando replied to kim666mikkelsen's topic in Helix Native
Hi Greg, (and anyone else with this problem) After checking previous posts it appears this particular error was initially reported way back in early 2018 with v1.5 Native - it looks like nobody ever bothered to report back here with the solution. I will echo the advice given by “soundog” in that old thread - Raise a ticket with support”. Oh... and it would be good if you could please keep others informed as to any resolution offered. link: Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: NOT SURE IF THE LAST COMMENT IN THIS THREAD HELPS - CHECK IT OUT! -

Did you try the suggestion above? -
Damn! This is probably preaching to the converted, but have you tried turning off absolutely everything that is likely to cause a conflict in the audio/USB paths in and out, and also anything that may be trying to contact the outside world via wifi or Ethernet, firewall etc.? O.K. I’m gonna guess that the answer is - yes. The situation is such an odd one that I don’t recall anything like this being mentioned on here. I reckon this is so strange that the best thing to do is raise a ticket with Line 6 support. At least if you contact them, and even if they have not encountered this issue, they will be made aware of the problem and take steps to get you up and running ASAP. Good luck with this.

I think it may be wise to read this - because AFAIK, there is absolutely no reason to think that HX Edit is part of the fix for your G10. Plus this stuff has it’s own forum. https://line6.com/support/page/kb/live-sound/relay-digital-wireless/

Now why would you want to damage a truck?

I found the article which I mentioned in my earlier post regarding compressors (and it was from HonestOpinion).

IIRC - Digital Igloo said that the whole point of having SEND/RETURN inserts was to allow people to patch in external favourite stomp boxes or whatever. Apparently, the thinking behind this was anyone who was using specialist loopers (Boss RC-30) in their performance could easily hook up to the Helix/HXFX etc. There are so many looper pedals out there - why reinvent the wheel, especially if looping is your “big thing” you possibly already had some efficient hardware. The looper in the HX family of products is more of a novelty, certainly not what you expect or are asking for. The best thing I found to do with it is to place it as the first block in the signal chain and then record a short snippet of audio and then you can easily switch amps, cabs IRs, effects etc., with both hands free. For the sort of features you are asking for there are plenty of options available from TC Electronic (Ditto x4), Electro Harmonix (720 stereo), Pigtronix (Infinity 2), plus the ubiquitous Boss range. Although, now, as you have invested in the HX Effects, then Line 6 should give you all those extra features - free! I guess that you must have known that the looper didn’t do all that other stuff when you bought the HXFX. You did check - didn’t you?

“Pagey” uses the studio as an instrument, learning from the best during his time a session player in the U.K., but since Zep finished he spent the whole time doing re-master after re-master. Surely there is only so much you can wring out of a back catalogue? As for the Blue Box, isn’t that basically a fuzz with a two octave drop? Oh! Here’s a quote I found from MXR - “This is the crazy effect heard on Jimmy Page's "Fool in the Rain" solo. The Blue Box takes your guitar signal and duplicates it two octaves down for a huge, subterranean tone. The Blend knob lets you control how much of the effected tone you mix in with your dry signal. Not for the timid—there is truly nothing like the Blue Box.” Maybe “Jimbo” was using some of Mr Crowley’s magick!

What? The one on the Samba drums or the disco whistle? Right - I’m outta here (through that door over there!) https://line6.com/support/topic/22107-anyone-have-a-preset-like-the-solo-on-led-zeppelins-fool-in-the-rain/

That will do the job - have fun.

Hi, This has been said many, many times on this forum - coming from valve amps and the “amp in the room” sound - then this is going to be TOTALLY DIFFERENT. The sound from Helix in more like the polished sound from the desk and monitors that you would experience in the control room of a recording studio. The Helix will give you sounds that you are more used to hearing from a commercial recording. The trouser flapping effect of standing next to a 4x12 cab is a world away. To what (and how) is your Helix connected, because that may be having an affect on what you are hearing. Plus, this has also be mentioned lots of times - downloads from CustomTone are going to be different unless you are using EXACTLY the same equipment, guitar, pickups, environment, etc. - it will not sound the same.

Hi, If you have been able to use HX Native with Cubase 10.5 previously without any problems, then that seems to indicate something else is at fault. I would not immediately jump to the conclusion that HXN is the culprit, even though you experienced crashes in Premier. It maybe that something has become corrupted somewhere down the line. Has there been any other modifications to your PC’s operating system or new software added? I know this doesn’t solve anything, but for everything to simply stop working as it should, is not logical (captain).

The function of a compressor is to make loud things quieter and quiet things louder- squeezed from both ends. That’s it’s job, but it depends how it is set. Mild compression (2:1 to 4:1ratio) is a fairly standard studio setting for guitar/bass, more extreme settings (10:1) it becomes a limiter which will flatten everything from your pick attack to screaming lead - no dynamics, brick wall limiting. Cranking an amp into a limiting compressor may not be what you want to achieve. Somewhere on this forum (IIRC written by “Honest Opinion”) is a big article about compression - a full 101 of how to and when and where to use it, but rules are meant to be broken. Play around with the settings until you hear what you’re after. This is a digital system so you can mess with stuff without blowing anything up.
-
This might appear obvious, but I think that Jason put that compressor in there for good reason. You can always try as “codamedia” suggests (above) and adjust other parameters although if Mr. Sadites thought that was feasible he would probably done it.

Well, as this is a Helix forum, you’re actually asking in the wrong place. Having said that, when checking from the software download page, if you enter POD Studio KB37, then all software and then Mac OS it seems that Monkey has not been updated since November 2018. That seems rather odd because the version of Monkey stopped at Mojave 10.14, although the Line 6 Licence Manger has been updated to work with Catalina - not sure if that is help or not. EDIT: It looks like Line 6 have discontinued that product and it is now regarded as a legacy item. Good luck.

Oh! Please - not here. Suggestions for updates need to be posted to IdeaScale as noted by “codamedia” in the post above. Once you put your requests on IdeaScale, there is a pinned thread at the top of this forum where you can canvas others to vote for your ideas. So many requests there! Are you sure you bought the correct item?

As noted by “cruisinon2”, in the post above, 32D is a preset (you’ll get used to it!), but as there 8 setlists each containing it’s own 32D - therefore, it depends on which one you are referring to. If you are asking about the standard factory presets - I wouldn’t waste my time - as noted by Digital Igloo, “all presets suck!”. Just waiting for that to appear on a t-shirt. Why worry?

Can I get close to Lunatic and Chem X sounds with Helix?
datacommando replied to Vorak666's topic in Helix
You don’t have to wait - download the demo version of Helix Native and load it into your DAW (or download a freebie demo version of something like Reaper). The demo is good for 15 days and has all the same amps, cabs and fx as the hardware. For the Lunatic amp, which was a variant of the old POD Insane model, you could try out the Line 6 Fatality which is also based on a seriously modified Mesa Rectifier. Also the Cali Rectifire is modelled from a Mesa/Boogie Dual Retifier. Read more about the various models from this link: https://helixhelp.com/models/ Hope this helps/makes sense -
The post above should get you near to what you are seeking.
