I think we need a printed manual on how to use this forum. Step 1: State your credentials. Either you, your band or your upcoming gig should be "very important". Step 2: State your problem. State why the Helix is a tragic disaster for you and why you are suing Line 6. Step 3: State your solution. Helix should include [a vibrator; a calculator; lunch] for $1500. Step 4: Call another member "stupid". "Idiot" works pretty well too. Step 5: Apologize. I'm sorry. This was a stupid post by an idiot.

You can find the manual - and what you're looking for in the manual - instantly when it's on your computer. On paper, it takes me 10 minutes to even find the stupid thing in my ziggurat of paper manuals. Save the trees for guitars.

Yes, I upgraded; no, connectivity problems did not improve. iMac, OSX 10.11.4, Helix all up-to-date. Curiously, recording with Logic 10 is fine. It's trying to connect to the Helix Editor - no matter what I try, it disconnects when it feels like it. (I use the editor with my Surface Pro 4 - it works fine). Parenthetically, the USB drivers (?) in El Capitan are causing havoc with Western Digital external drives (of which I have two, now deceased). I would not upgrade if I were you...I tried to roll back to Yosemite but I couldn't find the date where I upgraded. Because I'm stupid.

Using a USB 2.0 hub into a USB 3 on the iMac does not work for me. Same seemingly-random disconnects. Where, in the world, does one find a USB 2.0/Thunderbolt adapter??? My iMac is, as you say, late 2012.
-
I disagree. The ability to load the editor, as several of us have reported, is intermittent and seemingly random. This is using the newest editor 1.11 (?) released yesterday. Mac OS 10.11.4, Helix firmware 1.10. On my Surface Pro 4, using Win10, everything works fine. But it's so much easier to read on an iMac!
-
Oh, yes, I know that screen quite well. iMac with El Capitan 10.11.4. I HAVE been able to get the editor up and running several times. I'd say my success rate is about 50%. Yesterday I thought I had it licked by using a powered USB hub. Right after I posted here that that was a solution, it stopped working.

Today, Helix (editor) is working fine with iMac, ElCap 10.11.4 because I'm using a powered USB hub. That would be really nice if that were the solution but I'm skeptical.

I spoke too soon. I have been able to see and use the new editor on my 10.11.4 El Capitan Mac. But it either loses connections within a few minutes or, more commonly, won't connect at all (even though other software can see the Helix). Since it HAS worked, I know it's not my fault. I'm thinking of going back to Yosemite (again - I reverted once before because of the Helix). In the meantime, my Win10 Surface Pro 4 works swimmingly with the Helix and its new editor. In my case, El Capitan still is very problematic.

What tuner offsets do you use for the Buzz Feiten tuning system, please? Several of my guitars have the BFTS but I always forget which ones.
-
I finally got up the nerve to upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.4. I tried to hook the Helix up to the Mac via USB and got the dreaded "can not connect to device" on the Helix application. So, while the Helix application was still open, I turned the Helix off, counted to 5, then turned it on again. That worked! Sorry for the highly technical details and jargon.

As per above, I have a patch set up like this: A bunch of effects with the output set at 1/4"; that goes to my real-life amp. After all the effects, I split off and send a modeled amp to the XLR outputs and then to my PA. That allows me to bypass the modeled amp when using the REAL amp. My question: where would I put a looper in this scenario? I'm having a brain freeze and can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.

That's right - I meant why not order from the US. But I didn't take into account the duty and brokerage. I also didn't realize Sweetwater was out of stock.
-
Won't the stores in Canada charge you, in Canadian dollars, essentially what you'd pay to a US store ($1500 USD plus 40%)?
-
Oh, yes. Both on my iMac and my iPad, the input volume is unusably low. My iMac is Yosemite 10.10.5 - I reverted from El Capitan using Time Capsule, hoping to skirt some of the problems with Helix and El Capitan. It happens regardless of software - I've used GarageBand and Logic X.

Very, very easy (I'm an old guy and don't read manuals). 1. You hold down the physical button beneath the parameter you want to control with the pedal - in your example, delay feedback. 2. In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, a prompt comes up that says "Learn Controller". 3. Press the physical button beneath the "Learn Controller" prompt. 4. Now press the expression pedal. Couldn't be easier. For my uses, being able to (easily) assign any parameter to the expression pedal is about the best feature of the Helix.

I bought one of these. It's ok but pretty low quality. Some rivets on the hinges are very loose. The entire top comes off every time you open it and it's not that easy to put it back on again. Very awkward. But it does do, minimally, what I bought it for - to protect the Helix.

Helix FW 1.04.1 (and Helix App 1.02) Now Available
jasdadgad replied to Digital_Igloo's topic in Helix
Yeah, I did. After I got my Helix, I *REVERTED* from El Capitan back to the last version of Yosemite. Before reverting, my Mac couldn't "see" the Helix. Afterwards, smooth sailing. http://line6.com/support/topic/16894-helix-usb-and-the-mac/ I won't update to El Capitan (again) until things with the Helix are straightened out. -
Some credit card companies don't allow merchants to charge you before they ship. It's definitely worth checking with your credit card company. In the meantime, the behemoth Guitar Center is making some nice interest on your money. I think that's scandalous.

Holy lollipops, that was a helpful hint about the Mu-tron! I had no idea it was lurking in there - I've always loved that effect. This is a really helpful board.
-
Just joshin' you, my friend.

Sure, if your hard drive has a color display, a dozen dual-function knobs, 10 dual-function footswitches, programmable displays for the footswitches, a big-lollipop gas pedal, myriad inputs, outputs and, presumably, a bunch of analog-to-digital converting chips. Mine doesn't. It just has an on-off switch and a USB connector. ;)

Violin-like volume swells with volume pedal set to "Logarithmic"
jasdadgad replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Great tip, HonestOpinion! I never would've thought to make that switch to "Logarithmic" but it works as you say. Yet another of the thousands of hidden delights. Hooray for Helix! -
Wow. Sweetwater gave me an estimated ship date of late November when I ordered the Helix at the end of September. They did not charge my credit card until they shipped (I would not have ordered it otherwise). They shipped it a day or two before they said they would! And, yes, it's well worth waiting for.
-
Your Mac has to have USB 2 or USB 3. And, whatever you do, don't upgrade to El Capitan...yet.
-
Fantastic. Thanks so much! Parenthetically, I've been on hundreds of guitar forums over the years. This one stands out - it's informative and it's polite. Great job, whoever's responsible.
