  1. Interesting. If your controller can send sequential commands with a single button push, maybe you could trick the Stomp: put in the random preset# (a blank preset) followed immediately by your desired preset#. Or try preceding the preset# by a CC command (like a snapshot command, for example).
  2. Good thread.! FYI, this old thread was useful to me when I was digging into gain staging when building patches:
  3. I hear ya. I tend to settle on a stable DAW system, and avoid updates. But sooner or later something comes out that requires newer stuff and I end up getting dragged along with "progress."
  4. Dang ... that some strange behaviors alright. I haven't experienced anything like it yet (Logic Pro X under Catalina), but if I do I'll follow your suggestion. Thanks for the heads up.
  5. So it sounds like you guys have verified a bug. If you want a fix, I suggest one or both of you open up a ticket with Line 6 and give them the specifics: - occurs under Windows 10 running Native 3.10 - doesn't seem to be DAW-specific (same happens with Studio On 5, Reaper, and Cantible) - doesn't occur OSX Catalina running Logic Pro X
  6. The CDC now says that people with no vassectination can also go without pants, but they have to wear a mask "down there."
  7. So we may be down to Windows 10 .... anyone out there running Windows 10 with Helix Native that could check to see if this problem replicates?
  8. I just finished making a controller for my studio, including control of my HX Stomp. The project is based on a Teensy 3.2 microcontroller (Arduino based), with 16 rotary encoders and two toggle switches. It’s sorta like a MIDI Fighter Twister, but only cost me about $50 (and way too much time soldering and debugging code!). The controller is USB MIDI, although it could be wired for 5-pin DIN. For Stomp control, I settled on using “standard” amp controls for the top 6 controls, and the others can be used for whatever I want. I can change the stick-on label strips as needed, but have only made one (the one in the photo) so far. I can easily upload different code to the controller to customize it for whatever I’m working on (guitar recording, DAW plugin control, etc). Caveat: the Stomp only supports “absolute” CC parameter control (a big bummer), so I wrote code so that the encoders start position matches the Stomp preset settings. That way, I can twist the knobs and they always start relative to the preset settings, without jumping to the encoder value. (For DAW control, I wrote code to use “relative” CC mode, which is perfect for plugin control of channel strip EQ and compression.) The best part is being able to control amps and effects with knobs instead of a mouse!
  9. I just tested using Native 3.10 and Logic Pro running on Mac Catalina. Pitch Wham Position assignment saved normally, so I had no problem. Not sure what's going on. Are you using V3.10?
  10. Hmmm. That's crazy high. What happens if you create a mono track, and select Helix Native Mono --> Stereo. And try running with 512 buffer and see if that helps.
  11. That's indeed frustrating. I don't know what your Logic experience is, but what is your buffer size set to (Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio > General)? Try higher settings. Also, is Software Monitoring deselected? And set your Process Buffer Range to Large.
  12. I personally get bothered above 10 ms. Below 7 is great. 5? Yeah!! If you can get that mixer locally with a 30-day return, that would be ideal. I get bugged by the mail-order places that offer free shipping, then if you return an item you end up paying for the shipping both ways!! That's the primary reason I've been ordering more from Amazon Prime than Sweetwater (or similar).
  13. I don't own either product, but here's my 10 cents: you might want to try those product's forums or websites for info on latency, unless you luck into finding someone who has used them here. I will say this .... I've been impressed with everything I've used that was made by Zoom. Its quality stuff. Behringer has been hit or miss for me (I like their X-Air and X-Touch line). I just checked out the Livetrack stuff on the Zoom website, and it looks quite impressive. I looked at user reviews on Sweetwater (always good to check) and they are positive. Also, if you getting a newer Mac, that, along with a newer USB interface, should give you less latency than you were used to.
  14. So ..... there is a lot of flexibility! I suggest trying different things and seeing what works best for you. The main difference I saw was in recording levels: through USB the audio recording seemed too low (even though they are not), and with the Apollo I had more control of the recording level (which was only a problem when I was going in Helix; I had to dial the input down accordingly.) @datacommando - I was also concerned about the extra D/A and A/D (it seems like you would logically have some deterioration), but I could hear no difference, and also read some interesting info online that indicated you'd have to go back and forth with the signal many times before you could hear any audio changes.
  15. From my experimenting (Helix Stomp USB out, or audio out through an Apollo Twin), I think the recording quality was equal. But you also have to look at your workflow, and convenience. For me, I also record with microphones (through the Apollo). And I use two sets of monitors coming out of the Apollo. I'm on a Mac running Logic Pro. At first I tried using an "Aggregate Device" but found it to be unreliable on my system. So now I run my Helix Stomp through the Apollo, and everything is working perfectly for my needs. I think if I was doing guitar only, I might use the USB for recording due to the reamping capability. But I also have Helix Native, so I now only use the Stomp's USB for MIDI control. PS.Berlin is a great city. I visited there about 5 years after the wall came down and loved visiting both the east and west sides and seeing the contrast at that time. Also spent a lot of time at Brandenburg Gate buying odd trinkets and souvenirs. I still have a bunch of cheap Soviet watches that are still working.
  16. Too bad those tapes didn't have some early tune scratchings of Neil Young or Elliot Smith or ??. Or communications with the spirit world.
  17. I have an old Webster-Chicago wire recorder that I refurbished. It still works, and seems like black magic. When I bought it, it came with a bunch of wire reels and there were recordings of a preacher's sermons on them. Kinda spooky....
  18. Ha. All of my old 1/4" 8-track (for Fostek deck) and 4-track (Sony deck) are starting to flake. I've gotta digitize them before its too late! I'm not a fan of hiss, but I do like the saturation, compression, and eq of tape. Some of the DAW plug-in tape emulations are quite good, so I'm interested in hearing how the Helix Reel-to-Reel sounds.
  19. Wait, you can do tape and vinyl? OK ... I want to model an album left out in the sun, and you have to tape a quarter over your stylus to play it. And the spindle hole was punched off center.
  20. Expression pedals are supported by Native. What DAW and expression pedal are you using? Read this old thread:
  21. A room full of Logic users. Ya can't go wrong!
  22. Lots of good stuff here!! As a Euclidean rhythm fan, I'm especially excited about the delay. And can't wait to experiment with the analog tape stuff using Native on various tracks...
  23. A huge benefit in switching to Mac is that you can use smaller and more modern fonts. ;-)
