  1. Bummer. As @zolko60 sez, Helix Native is designed to be preset compatible to the hardware. But Line 6 has stated several times that they intend to remove this limitation via some sort of "Hardware Compatibility" mode in Native, which could be turned on or off. That will be useful because it will remove the hardware constraints. In the meantime, you have the same DSP limitations of your rack. Since you own the hardware, you may have read the Dynamic DSP section in the hardware manual. For those who don't have the hardware and run into the gray situation, read that section of the hardware manual. Here are some basic DSP tips (from a Helix hardware thread about the topic): Some models may use more DSP than others in the same category. This is especially true with amp models If you run out of DSP on Path 1, route it to Path 2 for more horsepower. If you plan on creating tones with two or more amps and more than a handful of effects, use both paths Instead of a parallel path with two Amp+Cab blocks or two separate Amps and Cabs, try adding a single Amp block followed by a single Cab > Dual block (mixing two different Cabs can provide some substantial variations) The stereo version of an effects block will use roughly twice as much DSP as a mono version of the same block. Likewise, the dual version of a cab block will use roughly twice as much DSP as the single version Some model categories have “Simple†blocks, which utilize less DSP than others
  2. Thanks for the heads up, that's a great deal....
  3. not sure about scaling, but it looks just the right size on my 5K...
  4. I'm really liking the tonal flexibility of the Woody Blue bass amp: https://helixhelp.com/tag/acoustic-360/
  5. FYI, If you ever feel you've found a bona fide bug, start a ticket with Line 6. I've found them to be really responsive, and pro-active about publishing verified bugs...
  6. Also FYI, from the V1.5 Pilot's Guide: NOTE: All snapshot assignments and settings are retained within the current tone's preset until another preset is loaded within the plug-in. If you wish to permanently retain all your snapshot assignments and settings with the preset, be sure to use the File Menu options to Save your tone to the Preset Library or to Disk The snapshot that is in use when you save your preset is the one that is recalled when the preset is loaded again.
  7. Sorry it didn't work out for you, rsvette, but at least they have a demo so no money wasted. After line 6 implements MIDI control, all should be golden (preset select via MIDI would also be awesome). And I agree, the Fremen presets are excellent!
  8. Here's a companion video on Dr Z making his Kemper profiles. Its interesting he uses a trio (studio guitarist, audio engineer, and himself) to make 'em. https://www.drzamps-zgear.com/store/c8/DR._Z_Kemper_Profiles.html
  9. Chris Z — after you've had some time alone together, let us know what you're favorite Helix bass preset chain(s) look like. I use Helix Native for recording, and have been experimenting quite a bit with bass tones lately (using a rebuilt Samick RLB3 Royale). I'm also using SRV IRs.
  10. you also could check some sort of midi monitor software (on mac its Midi Monitor) to make sure your pedal is sending from 0—127 values for the MIDI CC.
  11. Update: heard back from Line 6, this has now been logged as a bug. There is a simple workaround ... just change the plug-in View (upper right, by sidechain selector) from Helix View to Editor. All the new parameters such as Snapshots appear there, and you can select what you want to automate. I've found you usually have to make a selection (e.g. highlight "1") in the Editor list for it to initiate communication to the Logic Pro automation lane. After that, you can select 1 - 8 snapshots in the lane. If you still have problems getting Snapshots, try putting the automation lane in Touch or Latch mode first. Gotta say the support folks are on the ball and responded really quickly.
  12. yeah its a mixcraft plugin being demo'ed the video, but try using the same principal with the Helix Native plug-in instead. Assign your MIDI expression pedal to a Helix Native knob (setup to control your wah position). I'd try it here, but there is no Mixcraft demo for Mac. I still think it should work (though admittedly I'm an optimist).
  13. Mac or PC doesn't matter, what matters is what your DAW supports. I just did a quick look at Mixcraft docs and I think it should allow a straightforward setup. Watch this tutorial on how to set up your controller to control virtual instruments and VST plug-in such as Helix Native: https://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/v7/help/mixcraft-using-midi-controller-with-virtual-instruments.html You should be good to go....
  14. ...this thread has branched into interesting side discussions on religion and corporate profit models. On topic, I just tried the Cali Texas CH2 (using @amsdenj's notes) and its enough to make a believer out of me.
  15. ...did you download the appropriate plug-in? There's a separate one for Mac and PC.
  16. Patchwork should also work (a great Swiss-army knife plug-in, btw). Remote Control and Patchwork can be a head scratcher unless you dig into the manual a bit, or get on the Blue Cat forums. A much simpler method to control Helix Native (and no other plug-ins required) if your DAW supports controller assignments, is to simply assign controls to plug-in parameters. Logic Pro X supports this, for example; here's how: Set up your channel strip with Helix Native as a plug in. Set up your Helix control assignments (e.g., Knob 1 for Wah position), then return to Helix Edit mode to show the parameter controls. Go into Logic’s Controller Assignments, Easy Mode (under Logic Pro X pull down menu). Select Learn mode, move your HN Wah Position slider (Logic will learn and show “Parameter: Helix Native Knob 1†Move your expression (“wahâ€) pedal. (Logic will learn the MIDI channel and CC for that pedal. Use Expert view to edit min/max, etc). Your expression pedal will now control the Helix Native wah pedal in real-time. Follow the same process for any other assigned HN switches (to toggle on/off effects), knobs (to control parameter values), snapshots, etc.
  17. NOTE: If you want to control Helix Native using external MIDI controllers in real-time, and if your DAW supports controller assignments, you can usually simply assign controls to plug-in parameters. Logic Pro X, and Reaper, for example, can do this via a "Learn" function. But, if you haven't found a solution, the following may be helpful... There is no direct control of HN via MIDI (yet), but you can control HN via DAW automation. As a temporary workaround, I was wondering if there was some sort of DAW plug-in that would allow users to map a MIDI controller to automation control, and I found one that works great: Blue Cat Audio's Remote Control. The path is basically MIDI CC --> Blue Cat plugin in audio track (before Helix Native) --> Helix automation control I tested this with Logic Pro X 10.4 and it worked to control Helix Native (real-time via a controller. Its a bit confusing to set up initially, but once you do (read the manual and watch the video) it just works. Blue Cat Audio has a free demo available online, so you can try it out with your setup before you buy ($49). And, as mentioned, there is no need for this workaround if your DAW directly supports controller assignments, which many do.
  18. Agreed! Please see this thread to vote ins/outs from Helix to do this. Otherwise you need to stick your plugs in before or after the full Helix Native chain of blocks.
  19. Below is the official statement from Line 6 info. It's at least been mentioned, so I suppose there is some hope: Q: Will there be a stand alone version? Not at launch.

    Well poop :(

Marty McFly always managed to stay on his hoverboard OK, and he was also a Helix user after he blew out his amp and went back to 2018.
  21. If Mixcraft allows you to "draw in" automation via mouse or an external controller, all should work if you assign a "Knob" to your Wah block within Helix Native (as described in the manual), and you then select that same Knob number to control in an automation lane within Mixcraft. Its my understanding that its currently only a "Write/Read" automation control situation with Helix Native parameter control, rather than "real-time" MIDI control.
  22. ...also read the 1.5 manual re: Snapshots, good info there! Click the gear at lower left of the Helix Native screen, then the question mark at the upper right. All will be revealed.
  23. Reaper is giving a lot of established DAWS a run for their money. Its pretty amazing how far its come, and how efficient the app is.
