Hmmm... Uhh, yup. I'm staying put at 2.0. Thanks, HO.

What about the expression pedal issues? Problems of that ilk are a deal breaker for me.
-
I have relegated my Princeton to the studio and do use it on occasion for recording. Like when I'm too lazy to go get the Helix or my Ethos Overdrive pedal.

I think that this is the big limitation with IRs. They're static. They don't capture the way speaker cones flex and the way their sound changes at the extremities of their excursions. They sound different when you're driving them gently than when you're playing at full tilt. I really think that dynamic speaker modeling is the next step in achieving more realism. This might even allow for a mic-less cab model.

Absolutely. I experienced this recently with a Laney Cub 10 - an amp which I really quite liked. The new tubes were awful and noisy while the old tubes sounded great but were steadily becoming more microphonic.
-
Note also that a lot of these guys touting the virtues of tube amps often use SOLID STATE Overdrive and Distortion pedals to get their sound. 😂
-
So... I have quite a few tube snob friends who wax poetic about the "randomness" of tubes. Prattling on about how that's what's missing in modeling technology and that this randomness is what gives tubes their sound and character. One of my brothers goes on and on about "calculated' distortion also as one of the downfalls of modeling. I've always looked for consistency in my tone. I don't want my tone and the feel of my amp to change as the night progresses. Thoughts? DI?

I wonder if there are different internal revs (circuitry versions) that we don't know about that are the cause of these issues. Or maybe slightly different Shark processors made by different suppliers.

Hoo kids, I'm staying at 2.0 for a while. I cannot afford to be without my Helix.
-
Interesting. The Helix is the very first modeler that has made me happy about my medium gain sounds. It's made me happier than real amps because I don't have to play so loud to get the feel I want.

Well, whatever it takes. I think that most of us would all agree that the Helix is essentially a computer. A dedicated, single purpose computer. but still a computer Could you imagine if upgrading your desktop or laptop completely erased all the files in it every time you did an upgrade? Not sure many of us would tolerate that. Yet, we tolerate it with the Helix. Not to dismiss what it has given us extremely fortunate guitarists and upgrading the firmware in any dedicated device puts it in a precarious position during the upgrade should there be an unplanned power outage. But I firmly believe that upgrading the firmware really shouldn't feel this dicey, complicated and nerve wracking.

I really do wish Line 6 would address the whole pain in the keester upgrading process before the next Firmware revision. It has to get easier than this.

So, the Teemah pedal has become one of, if not the, go to pedal for me. I was curious today and started flipping around the different amp models it was going into. What FUN!! It also reinforced the importance of pre-amp model tone shaping. At first it was a little disconcerting because the differences between some models sometimes became quite a bit more subtle. Still, a thoroughly enjoyable process!

When financially feasible, this is a good way to go.

Hmmm, it's been a while since I started this thread (August) and I've not had any trouble since other than when the site was down a couple of times.

Mono effects would also rectify some of the losses we incur due to phase cancellation when summing stereo signals to mono.
-
I see. Understanding the realities of what It takes to get things right is "brown nosing".

It sure looks like he's working towards being he most negative guy. If he would at least acknowledge DI's post about what it takes to get these updates done, the tonality of his posts would be taken differently and he, more seriously. Nowhere in his posts does he acquiesce to the fact that the Helix is as good as it is because Line 6 takes the time to get it right and refuse to release an unstable firmware update. Getting things right takes as long as it takes.
-
Oh goodie. 🙄 Now we can get a Lexicon MPX-Claymore Mine. Exploding JBL EONs anyone?
-
Well, that and the fact that attenuators are only effective with tube amps. It allows tube amps to get to their overdriven power tube sweet spot without having to be loud. Solid state amplifiers don't have this sweet spot. They, for the most part, sound the same at low and high volume levels. For the most part.

In total agreement with this.
