I totally agree with this. As the sound guy, he works for you and it's his job to make whatever you feed his mixing board sound good. FULL STOP. There is no arguing, no ifs, ands or buts. If he's too incompetent to keep a modeler from damaging his PA gear, he shouldn't be getting paid to do a job that any professional ought to be able to do. He's copping an attitude based on a giant crock of BS. I'd bet he's a "tone snob" who's just frustrated 'cause he's a crappy guitar player.

Yeah, I considered the single channel one for about a minute but decided that being able to blend two different amp sounds in a single head unit was too appealing to turn down. I agree that this is an all Yamaha device. It sounds like and works like one of their products. I think it's great that Yamaha is not homogenizing the sonics of the companies they buy. This amp sounds killer and I don't want it to sound or work like it's related to the Helix. It's got a charm all its own and I love its simplicity. Just plug in, twist some knobs and go. I do kinda wish the power tube selection knobs were in front. If that were the case, I'd be building a cab that would turn it into a stereo combo amp. Right now I only have it playing through one speaker and am thinking that having the two separate amps each driving their own speaker would be a much better sounding scenario.

Wow. Just wow. I think I love this amp as much as I do the Helix!! It just sounds awesome!

Ahh. Thanks then. Sorry didn't see the text on the video - I was looking at the site on my phone.

If I need presets, I have the Helix. Sometimes I just want to plug into something simple and don't need more than even one sound - like in my studio. I use the Helix for gigging as that's when I need instantaneous access to lots of sounds. In my small studio, it's footprint takes up too much room. When I just want to play at home, it's nice to be able to just plug in and go. I like the idea of being able to reach for a knob at chair height to tweak sounds and not have to bend down or use the computer and have all these cables strewn across the floor. I love gigging with the Helix but I hate having to set it up at home when I just want to sit down and play through an amp. I don't need access to all of what the Helix offers every time I sit down to play. Certainly not at home. By the time I've got the Helix setup and the studio equipment required to run it turned on, the desire or inspiration to play is likely gone.

Huh? Dude, it's two independent amps that you can use individually or combine both amps in mono or stereo... you do this with a footswitch it comes with and connects via any midi cable. You can't switch amp types or power tube types with the foot switch but hey, most amps are limited to two sounds anyway. Most amps. http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp/@0_mall/chuya-online/cabinet/item101500/rt_101401_04.jpg

Yeah... I found one on Reverb.com for $500.00. Took a chance and should receive it tomorrow.

Anyone checked out one of these yet? http://www.zzounds.com/item--YAMTHR100HD?siid=188995&-yFgSJADikZggArOq3mE-5lqsdqy1HHyM_DF7gimm7mxl8h8bRvCwlBoC2ljw_wcB=

Oooh, forgot all about the latency! Still, it might work.

Can't you connect both via USB and on the computer's sound preferences set the Helix as the audio input and the THR10 as the audio output? Not sure about PCs but I'm pretty sure that you can do this on a Mac. If the OP happens to use a Mac.
-
Sorry to hear that. My experience is the opposite. 2.0 seemed a bit sketchy as it crashed twice at my gig but 2.11 seems more solid. Have you tried redoing the update?
-
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I'm just being a little too old school. Not sure what the audio quality will be like just because that isn't the Helix's primary function. Just me.
-
I don't know if I'd have confidence in stomping on one of the footswitches or using the expression pedal while it's on that platform. It only holds 30 pounds and even though the Helix is only about 15, the weight of your leg plus the pressure for stepping on it might damage it. I like the idea though.
-
Is the Helix your only audio interface? It seems to me that if you have a dedicated audio interface that would be the best thing to use for mics.
-
Interesting. Maybe just the Studio Preamp as a gain stage?
-
There's probably one inside the Helix. Either that or there's one in the IEC receptacle... those aren't easy to see or access in my experience.
-
Sheesh 47 updates to get it right? lol

I think for me, the missing part is the resonance of a Jazz guitar sound. It seems to kind of go away on the Helix and I don't know why. I don't really think a Jazz guitar sound has to be dark necessarily, just round and mellow but can still have highs. George Benson's sound comes to mind. I haven't gotten around to playing with the idea much but i think some of the acoustic guitar IRs in front of the amp block may help. I just have to find some time to experiment.

IMHO, you have to create your own patches, for a few reasons. With a device as capable as the Helix, you can tailor each patch to sound however you prefer to have your guitar(s) sound. With the Helix, I can significantly change the way the guitar's attack sounds just by changing picks so how can a patch created by someone else who will invariably has a different picking style and uses different picks than you create a patch that would satisfy you? As an example, I believe Mr. DeLaune uses thumb picks which do sound different than a flat pick. Lastly, how can you learn more about the Helix if you don't learn to create your own sounds on it?
-
Hmmm, thanks. Good idea. Next time. Don't want to unscrew the grill again.
-
Wow, thanks. Good to know!

Seems kinda weird and confusing. Why then is it recommended that we reimport Presets and Setlists after a firmware update... or am I mistaken? Are you saying that we can in fact just import the Setlists and be done and not bother with the Patches?
-
I'm trying to understand this. Aren't the Snapshots data kept within the presets and aren't Setlists just a file that keeps track of the order of the patches and thus have no patch data included in them - just the names and the order of the patches? And if so, how does finding a newer setlist backup help the OP?
