  1. I don't really get these requests for acoustic amps. Most of what's happening in them, specialized EQ, Compression and Notch Filtering, is done in the preamp so I can understand if folks want an acoustic guitar preamp. That would be really handy. The rest of the components of those "acoustic" amps - the power section and LF and HF drivers are not much different than any powered PA speaker. The amps themselves as a whole, don't have any special character that's all that desirable. There's no need to model the whole amp.
  2. Not a deal breaker, but I'll miss that part of the Helix in the software version. Conditioning the initial tonality of the incoming guitar signal via the impedance parameter really helps me get the sounds I'm after in the Helix.
  3. Still doesn't answer my question. How will Helix Native handle variable input impedance?
  4. Hmmm, I don't recall seeing interfaces with variable input impedances on their 1/4" inputs. Typically, the variable impedances were for the Mic inputs.
  5. Definitely. But... Didn't Amp Farm run on Protools' DSP Farm Cards not on the computer's CPU? I don't think there was a Native version, was there? That and, well, I hated the Pods. I hope that Helix Native has the same feel and response that Helix Hardware does. What's gonna happen to the Input Impedance part, I mean, is that software controlling the Helix's hardware or is that done in software alone? If its the former, I can't help but think that there may well be a significant change in the way Helix Native responds to touch and pick attack - that it won't be like that of Helix Hardware.
  6. Yup. Voted both of those ideas up ages ago. Here is my contribution. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/An-LFO-and-an-ADSR/811573-23508
  7. I don't think it would become a mixer block. It could become just another parameter page for certain applicable effects and it really doesn't have to impact the Helix's ease of use - if it's done right. It could also reside in the controllers page where it can be assigned to any parameter(s) the Helix and still not impede ease of use as you can simply ignore it.
  8. I hope it's not too time consuming.
  9. Interesting question, duncann. Only Line6 would know the true answer to that but couldn't that cause a kind of "tug of war" conflict between the controllers or is that what you're after for creativity's sake? I could see where it could give some very interesting results.
  10. Thanks. But I'm kinda set these days. Which is a really weird thing to say. The only patches I might want are all experimental ones that I've conceived of in my head and want to try to create on the Helix. It is the strangest thing to not have the need to fix something that's really bugging me on the Helix 'cause... nothing really bugs me about it sonically.
  11. I think Andy Summers' tone on "De Doo Doo Doo" is much more interesting. It's janglier without necessarily being brighter. It rather try to cop that tone instead. Will I try to get it exactly? Nah!
  12. Yeah, the thing with the LFO is that we essentially already have it. You're using an LFO to control the oscillation of the Chorus (rate) for example. It just needs to be instructed to control other parameters. A "freelance LFO". Lol
  13. Good question, spikey. Not sure if it would be possible but wouldn't it be cool Native and Hardware helix could share resources? Use one to extend the DSP capabilities of the other via USB?
  14. Well, I do see a couple of advantages to that approach. If you don't have to use an EQ to match the sound of an amp, it does free up some DSP for other effects you might want and it eases the work in patch creation if the amp is already there. It's just that there are definitely other aspects of the Helix that are equally important and are still waiting to be dealt with. Firmware updating for one and as others have mentioned, the effects need attention too. I've put up some ideas on Ideascale that I would love to see implemented as I think that the Helix needs to have more creative options on its effects side. I'm not talking about specific effects, but controls for modulating the effects. LFO, Randomizer and ADSR parameters added to modulate time based effects would be super cool, I think. The Randomizer is especially intriguing to me for modulation effects as the exact and mechanical ebb and flow of say, a chorus effect, would be much more interesting if the rate and depth and even the waveform could be subtly an predictably varied by a randomizer. I hate to use this word but it would make modulation effects sound more... "organic".
  15. Well, to me, the Archon and the Mesa are are very unique sounding and I like having them on the Helix.
  16. Agreed. Unique sounding amps like the ones you mention and the Deacy would certainly be welcome but more of the sort of same sounding high gain amps, would be superfluous.
  17. Never met a patch that someone else created that worked for me.
  18. Until they come up with actual dynamic cab emulation - one that mimics the changes in sound that speakers go through as they move at differing volume levels, I'm not gonna even deal with IRs. IRs are static but speakers are definitely not so to me, there's a huge component missing in cab emulation tech anyway and IRs are not gonna fix it. Since the stock cabs work well enough for me for now, why bother? https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Dynamic-Cab-Emulations/866623-23508?submitted=1
  19. My sentiments exactly. Love that Coles 4038. For any of my overdriven sounds, it's the only one I use.
  20. This is really good info to have and for me, this makes the Helix's price point more than justified. High quality A/D conversion and the Op Amps involved are too often overlooked on modelers, in my opinion. Even others that claim 24 bit capability, leave me questioning the quality of their converters and op amps.
  21. I certainly don't need anymore amps. There's already such a wide variety of amps available that I think any more, the differences in the amps' tonalities will start to become fairly subtle. I think it's more important to focus on usability, stability, and an easier, less treacherous feeling means of updating the firmware. Preferably one that doesn't erase your existing patches and IRs.
  22. Oh yeah we need this thing! Bad!
