  1. I got the Deceptors. I got them because they look normal. Don't really like the looks of the other ones.
  2. Interesting. That's totally the reverse of my experience with them.
  3. I pretty much know if something is going to work for me after a gig. I gigged with the Alumitones last weekend and they are definitely keepers for me. Tried them on two amps and the Helix and I was pleased with the sound on all three. I've probably swapped pickups more times than I care to remember and usually new pickups force me to make adjustments to my patches. While I will likely want to make a set of patches specifically for this guitar, it's not an immediate need this time around.
  4. Anyone else tried them? I took a chance and put them on my Parker PDF85 and they are outrageous!! They're not all midrangey or muddy sounding. Just big fat and sparkly. Truly wide range. I've got the neck pickup permanently set to split mode. Man I love these things and cannot recommend them enough. One little caveat, they're deeper at the ends than most Humbuckers and I had to rout out the guitar's neck pickup cavity. Still, it was well worth it. I've never heard pickups like these before. I tried to install the Lace Aluma P90s in my other guitar but because of their design, and even though they're supposed to be "drop in replacements" for P90s, their sharp corners don't allow them to fit - even though I pulled out P90s out of my guitar. Dang! I know they'd sound amazing on that guitar too.
  5. I've experienced this too when I use my Boss Looper and I wish I could turn off the foldback within the looper.
  6. I know that these days it's pretty common place to lip/play sync to tracks at concerts and it was the same back during the era of variety shows on TV. But I don't remember concerts being lip/play synced during that era. If it was play synced... how did the drummer know when to start??? Furthermore, with IEMs, play syncing is relatively easy these days but I'm not exactly sure how they managed it back in the day. They barely had stage monitors back then.
  7. . Don't forget to take into account how often YouTube vids get unsynchronized.
  8. Well, aside from sounding identical, will it feel the same? That's of equal importance to me. In fact, I can work around a different tonality and even not so great tonality if the feel is decent. It would be important to have patches created in the software version translate well to the hardware version but I'm not sure there's a way to guarantee that. For me, it's probably a matter of a few tweaks once you get it onto the hardware Helix. No biggie - to me. But what if... the software ends up sounding better than the hardware version because of superior interface electronics and design and/or superior A/D conversion? What if I were using say, a Burl preamp and A/D converter? I'm sure that the Helix's A/D is not of that caliber. What would the difference in sonics and feel be?
  9. Abso-freaking-lutely!!!! It's really irritating that people feel so entitled to getting things for free, regardless of how much the company spent in time, money and effort in creating a product. Ridiculous!
  10. I'd love this but... in my recording studio, I use a fairly old version of the Mac OS - 10.6.8 to be exact. It's super stable. I can't remember the last time it crashed. I also use a fairly old version of my DAW - Digital Performer 7.24. I know it really well and again, it's super stable and I can't remember the last time it crashed. I wonder how old an OS this Helix Native will support.
  11. Maybe it's because I try to use it sparingly but I just don't have big issues with the Helix's reverbs. I'm still so focused on how good the amp models sound that whatever deficiencies the reverbs have just don't seem to matter.
  12. IMHO, using the Helix with a tube amp just hampers its full capabilities. Much better to go FRFR.
  13. Wow! This is really great news, roscoe5! Thanks, man.
  14. "Live in Japan" it says. I don't know of many drummers that can "Playsync" to a prerecorded track that well without headphones.
  15. There are no mics on those amps so the mics that captured that video must have been some distance away - and it sounds like it. That should be taken into consideration as you create the preset.
  16. For country picking a lot of players use quite a bit of compression for sustain. It's getting the settings on the compressor right that can be a challenge. I don't think the Litigator is quite the right amp for that sound... unless you like a little grit in your clean sound as I do. I would recommend the Deluxe Vibrato or the Twin Vibrato channel. I almost always use one of the ribbon mics as they have more bottom and can be easily trimmed to taste.
  17. Because it's tidier and more convenient?
