Your Welcome. Good post pointing out having to go with the original firmware. If I remember correctly I didn't have to do that. I just went right to the latest firmware and it worked for me. If I have another problem I may reflash from the original firmware and then up from there. The forums are good for this sort of thing, it helps bring together all the possible ideas and helps us think about how to fix software issues.

Sounds like a good professional attack at the patch making "H"! Thanks for sharing. :)

I see no problem with that set up. Maybe I should set do a set up like have there and see what I get with my HD500. On the patch I used for that last recording I had the compressor setting very high on the compression and high on the gain, it was after the distortion and the amp. I was using my strat into the front of the X3 Pro and feeding it's 1/4 in outs L&R into the Line in's on a KB37 and monitoring and recording with the KB37. I had a noise gate from PodFarm VST set pretty high also. and then it went into RiffWorks EQ & Comp which was set pretty high.

Thanks Man! I rotate devices and the X3 Pro's turn popped up, lol.

Sometimes I end up using after the Amp/Cab. Just depends on what situation and how it's sounding. Sometimes Comp is good before the amp and distortion. Try as much as possible in order to learn what gives and your own experience will kick in after a while. I recorded this "A Short Musical Rant" with a Gear Box Patch from my X3 Pro into RiffWorks. The X3 Patch has Comp after the Amp and I used it. Then it went into RiffWorks where I added more Comp. It's possible to use Comp all over the place. Just got to fool with it.

Aaaaahhh I get it! That's the ticket for sure. I do a similar thing between my other amps. The specifics always get me, lol.

I've got one DTeeeees, lol. I get popping if I don't compensate. Thanks for the tip! I didn't know that with 2 DT's it works better in that respect. Thumbs up to Ya. :D A Short Musical Rant for you.

Yeah Man! It's very cool and interesting. I just got done experimenting by recording my moves (with iPad) such as turning the drive back and forth for about a 15 seconds, lol then both the volume and drive up and down at the same time for another 15 seconds. I had a really cool wavy tone going on here, lol. Now I just have to be creative with it. I'm going to dig out my X3 Pro and see how I might be able to make use of it with the HD500/DT50HD. Oh man am I going to have some MIDI fun! I'm going to record some progressive tone stack settings for different patches such as an HD500 footswitch with a MIDI CC to change the amp. I can do everything on the same channel of the DT such as Channel B. I think everything can be changed by MIDI. Looks like the trick is going to be keeping the pops down so it looks like if I want to use different topologies I'm going to have to do it strategically, lol.

How did I miss this cool rundown. Nice job, Good photos Thanks Man!

Since I've been using my HD500 to control my DT50 via MIDI I'm liking the sound of the modelers as I think there is a tonal difference just like you seem to think. I'm not sure why that is though. I thought I was using the L6 Link correctly also. Although, that was before I had issues that had my amp in the shop 3 times. The other day I connected via the L6 Link and there was no connectivity. I checked to see if my settings were correct and all looked good, so today I checked to see if the DT was updated. I knew it was updated before the problems I had but the trip to the shop "undid" that. Today I updated the firmware and I've been using MIDI out of the HD500 so I haven't checked the L6 Link yet. I'm really liking the tone I'm getting via MIDI. I'm running one MIDI cable out of the HD500 into the DT MIDI in and I'm going into the front of the amp with my guitar. Sounds great. Some patches I've got are giving me a little pop even though I'm not changing topologies such as Class AB/A or Pentode/Triode. I think it might be due to a few of my patches having different PIV and Boost settings. I'll have to to work out the bugz, no big deal. Also, I've just started using my MIDI Mobilizer II and iPad to record my moves which is very cool since if I record midi out (all my moves such as footswitch changes, pedal changes, knob changes etc.) while playing a session so that next time I want to play it again I have the option to play back all those moves with the MIDI Mobilizer and all I've got to do is play. Very Very Cool in my book. Going to take some practice as I've really just begun to do this but I'm looking forward to it. Was using DT Edit to program the DT50HD today

Yes this might just change the way the you operate the DT. I'm going in the direction of using my HD500 for effects and MIDI implementation. I'm taking it slow though, lol. I'm not "Under Pressure" so to speak. I really like the way Line 6 made the DT's, I'm impressed! http://line6.com/support/topic/14508-was-using-dt-edit-to-program-the-dt50hd-today/?do=findComment&comment=105514

I got my DT back from the shop a while ago and had to update the firmware, I suppose they either reset it or replaced the board. Anyway I pulled out the M Audio MIDI Sport Uno and proceeded to update without a hitch. I never really got a chance to understand what goes on when DT Edit or some other MIDI GUI or device is used to program amps, cab, and many other settings to a channel. I know I read about this stuff here before but sometimes it takes the actual experience to understand it. I realize now that each Topo has two channels. This means I can program an amp, cab or not to any of the 8 channels. I had so much fun with this today. This amp, even though it's not going to be made anymore is absolutely amazing. The sound of this set-up always amazes me. I learned that when in DT Edit making settings to the channel your "not on" first is best since if you change Topo settings while on the channel your modifying you might get pops and such. So if I'm on Channel A, I change all the settings for Channel B first, then switch to B and set Channel A and back and forth etc.etc. Also I did not rapidly switch between channels I gave about 5 second wait between channel changes. I think I read this here before: I set all my channels to the same Topo setting (Class AB, Topo I, Pentode) in order to keep that channel changing pop from happening. Seems I was able to change the other settings (Boost On/Off, PIV low/high, Tight/Smooth) without getting the channel changing pop. I've got to try the other Topo combinations but what I've got now seems to sound great for Low Volume practice. Anyone else having good results with the Hidden Features of these Amps? Next I'm going to put together some MIDI set lists in my HD500 for the DT MIDI IN. Another Post on my opinion of MIDI and the DT

Damn!! You've came along way since s..s..s..s..s..ssSSix SSSixty SIX, lol. Interstingly fun thread dudes.

That scheme is "RICH" ! LOL Check Out the MIDI Implementation Guide for the DT's. The image has the link to the manuals. Here's the MIDI:

Nice tip off "A" Thanks a Million Dude!!!

Thanks a Million "H"! I almost had it by memory but almost don't "cut" it, lol.

Anyone remember or know what the default setting for the HD500 global eq was? I should've made a note of it before I started changing it, lol. No real big deal really but it would be nice to know what it was. I suppose a global reset would bring it back though. Thanks for any help!

Nice info Colonel! Thanks for sharing all that good info. Your the Man!

SoooTrue!

I see Line 6 is gett'in some LOVE! Glad to your getting what ya wanted in tone. I'm enjoying that DT50HD over here! Working good so far but there is a few things I need to check out, such as the L6 Link, Direct Out and MIDI functionality. The main part such as the preamps/topos, and the Power amp sound great. Anyways, ENJOY!

Studio GX POD Farm 2 not authorised for this computer

That's strange, seems as though you did things correctly. Maybe you should call Line 6 or do a support ticket if you haven't already. -
midisport uno . http://www.m-audio.com/products/view/uno#.VYRA5EYy06A This one works great.

Interesting posts, Thanks! When I decided to go with 600 ohm headphones I knew that they would mellow out the tone compared to the 32 ohm Bose headphones I've got and it was a welcome change to my ears, lol. What really surprised me about them was how well the HD500 can sound with them. The HD500 can drive 600 Ohm drivers. It's kinda hard for me to explain but I was able to listen longer without my ear feeling uncomfortable but not because they bother my ear but how easy they are on my hearing. Another interesting thing about them is I was able to get some very interesting vibrations with them and I really mean vibrations, lol, such as the drivers really vibrated my head. Hahahaaa I've never had a set of headphones that could actually vibrate my head. Of course they didn't just do that I had to tweak the HD500 in order to find out what worked in order to get them to do that.

Cool, I wish I could make it to these shows. If the Helix is like all the other Line 6 Gear I've got it's gotta be pretty good. I've got to admit the DT50HD with one DT25 Ext Cab plugged into it and the HD500 feeding the beast sounds really freak'in good! The X3 Pro into the DT50 sounds great too. I'm happy so far but I'm going to have to wait a while for the HELIX.

Your Welcome! I hope you like them. Are you going with the Open Backed or Closed Backed? Just curious is all. I went with the open backed in hopes of them allowing my ears to stay cool, lol, and so I could talk to someone and still be able to hear them while they're on my head. They work good in that respect IMO.
