DT-50 controlled by POD HD500X
Brazzy replied to pedromen's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
It sounds like you're an analog person, possibly you may never be happy with the pod. You might find yourself liking the pedal route. Maybe someone here can explain better than I on how to get what you want but I suggest you read up on all the manuals Line 6 provides on these devices and spend time practicing with it. I use an HD500 and use one MIDI cable and I usually plug the guitar right into the front of the amp. I control the amp via MIDI with the pod. Sometimes I'll add to that an iPad with MIDI mobilizer in conjunction with the Pod. Sometimes I'll use the Pod via MIDI but plug the guitar into the guitar in of the Pod and come out from the L 1/4" out and on into the amp so I can make use of the volume pedal and/or wah. Of course there's more that can be done but that's for starters. The Pod and DT have so many options it's mind blowing, at least to me, but simply plugging into the front of this amp gets you good tone and a fun amp to play through. I also like to play around with the 4 cable method and 3 cable method. Sometimes I'll plug a Beat Buddy or other drummer into the return on the amp and play with drums that way. -
Glad to hear you got working. Come to think of it I never really used my DT50 with the original firmware I always just checked it first thing 'cause I love to update stuff, lol, besides I couldn't resist getting all the amp, cabs and other options that they said came with the updated firmware. Anayway, it's always a relief to hear it was something simple.

I hope they support Win 10. I'm having some other issues like slaving Reason Adapted & Ableton Live 8 with RiffWorks at the same time. I'm trying things out still to see what I run into as I try using compatibility modes too, lol.
-
I never looked at it as closely as you have here. What I do know is that this amp isn't your ordinary tube amp and the behavior your describing may be normal. I know my DT50HD behaves similar to your findings but I would have to go through everything you did there to verify. I'll try soon.

I'm upgrading to Win 10, the free one.

Check this out: Link to the Post> http://line6.com/support/topic/14991-windows-10-no-sound/?do=findComment&comment=109464 Might work for you. -
Very Good solution!! Thanks Man. I get playback through my KB37 from SoundCloud now. I set it 16 bit 48000 dvd quality also. I would imagine YouTube and others will work now also.

After using the Win 10 Home PC for a little more I've noticed that YouTube videos won't playback through my KB37 Studio even though it is the default sound card. The videos do however playback through the PC's speakers which are not set to be the default. I've even taken the steps to uninstall/reinstall the KB37 drivers to see if that will fix it. I can record my guitar with the KB37 and it will playback through it but so far it looks like the browsers aren't cooperating. Hopefully a fix will surface soon.

The only issue I have so far is SoundCloud won't playback on my KB37 Studio through Edge or Mozilla.

I noticed that SoundCloud music will not playback through Mozilla or Edge. I'm not sure what happening there since everything is up to date. I think I had an issue like this when SoundCloud was released and it wasn't long before it worked again or fixed. Actually, I can't remember what it was but it didn't work right, lol. -

So far my KB37 Studio is working great with PodFarm, Riffworks Standard and Ableton Live 8. Not a single problem so far. :) -

Thanks!!! 'puter working good so far. Still gotta let it level out/settle down, lol. I'll plug in the ASIO's later to see what gives. :) -
So here I go. I'm doing it as I type this. I checked that Win 10 reservation app and it said it was compatible with the apps that I had installed on my 'puter, you know all that Line 6 stuff Pod Farm, GearBox, Monkey, RiffWorls Standard and Ableton Live 8. So I'll be testing the waters soon. I got my fingers crossed, lol.

Some good posts and ideas Y'All, Thanks! I think that while the Pod doesn't actually show the FX Loop in the arrangement the way I would like to see it on the screen the sound is good like the FX Loop is working properly. I suppose I just want the arrangement to look like it would in an actual situation.

Good point, I suppose the design of the bridge could be a factor when it come to reliability. I also filed some pencil lead into the nut slots, no wax used there since it will stay in place while working on it. The only reason I used a very thin coating of wax on the saddle grooves was to hold the pencil lead dust in place while I installed the strings otherwise it would just slide off before I could seat the string.
-
Thanks, I hope it works! I have a set of those Ernie Ball Cobalts in the bag for future use. I was using Ernie Balls before the D'Addario's and if I recall the same string broke on me after a while. After that I replaced the neck, repositioned the tremolo, smoothed out the bridge saddles and cut the nut that came with the neck then finished it up with Nickel Wound XL D'Addario's 10-46. Been good ever since, thankfully 'cause before that the guitar was in bad shape, lol. Good idea. I took a micro needle file and lightly filed mine and then wrapped the tip of the file (of course ya have to hold it in place, lol) with extremely fine emery paper and lightly lapped the saddles. Doesn't take much time at all, minutes maybe. Then I took a tooth pick and rubbed a little bit of wax onto the string seats and then took a pencil and filed some graphite onto the wax so it would stick, installed the strings and after set up wiped off any excess. Works great.
-
I don't gig but I play almost every day and I haven't changed the strings on my strat in almost a year, lol. D'Addarios last a long long time. Plus they don't go out of tune much either. Usually I can just pick it up and it sounds great.

Cool. Does your X3 (in your sig) still work with your PC? Reason being, I still have an X3 Pro and UX2.
-
I hope so too, better keep whats working and don't change your computers OS yet or keep a spare computer, with what works, around for a while.

adesz444 has a good question. Is that the free Win 10 Upgrade? or just an update to a Win 10 OS. Would also be nice to know what kind of PC etc. Glad it's working for you! -
I think your right as well, as is why I was thinking about this and raised the question again unknowingly. I think there is a sonic difference as well although it might be little as I think is Phil's stance on this. I still think it would've been cool if the modeling went along the lines of the real way an amp works at least if the signal chain went according to a real chain. Don't get me wrong I like Line 6 modeling as it gave me the ability to learn how a signal chain works as I had no previous experience. I think the Helix addressed this as I'm being led to believe it. Either way I'm glad ya'll are posting your thoughts on this, it helps me and anyone else understand what's happening better.

Good explanation of why you say it doesn't effect much. I can understand your thinking on this and thanks for input. I run a Beat Buddy into the power amp section of my DT50HD while I'm sending my guitar signal into the preamp and I get great tone from both things the guitar and the drums. I can crank the Beat Buddy's drums up and it stays clean going through the power amp section and I can crank up the guitars preamp distortion. In this case of course I'm not even using the Pod although I could and I do sometimes.
